When one door closes … second chances open another … opportunity he can’t refuse. A chance to do the work he used to do … with a twist.
Cinnamon works from home as a project manager plus is heavily involved in global dog rescues—dogs of all kinds. When Ethan walks into the next door’s vet’s office with an injured shepherd in his arms, she sees another lost soul—just like the canine ones she helps.
Ethan knows he’s about to take a dangerous step, but he’s on the job, and no one—on the job or not—hurts animals while he’s around. This poor shepherd has taken enough abuse, and Ethan fears she is only the tip of a nightmare he’s determined to uncover. But he knows she’s going to lead him in the right direction.
He has his sights set on saving one dog in particular, Sentry: K9 File 01.

Overall an OK book. I really enjoyed the K-9 storyline-but the “Romantic Suspense”
aspect was sorely lacking. The interactions between the man (Ethan) and the woman was that of two friendly strangers people in the grocery store. I liked the dogs the best.
A life changing incident has altered the course of Ethan’s life. The training he acquired in the military, working with the K-9 unit makes him the ideal person to head up a special project. Cinnamon works with a dog rescue organization. When their paths cross their similarities help them bond. There are nefarious elements in the book, that bring danger and action to the story.
Absolutely loved this book. A book about not only our military heroes with two legs but our heroes with four. Not much is ever said about the K9s that have trained so hard to work for our country in protecting our men and women who are fighting for our beliefs in freedom. These are group of people that form a strong bond with each other. I can’t imagine how the dogs cope if the loose their handlers and are taken care of someone else. I can’t imagine the lose a handler feels when their partner is not longer there at their side. I loved the characters in this story. Ethan with his scares not only on the outside but on the inside as well. Cinnamon had a relationship end just because they were going in different directions and when he left it was forever. She concentrates all her time on the animals, but she can also see Ethan as the man he truly is. This book had me glued to it from start to finish.
In this book Ethan is on a mission to locate twelve missing War Dogs. They were to be in retirement but some how in the chaos of everyday life and the tragedies that can happen in it they have been lost. Ethan is going to start with K9:1. Ethan is an ex Navy SEAL. He was in Afghanistan with his dog partner when they were hit by a bomb. His dog didn’t make it and he was terribly injured. While trying to recover and get use the idea of no longer having one of his one leg his parents are killed in an accident. It took him a while to get out of the darkness that he descended on him for a while. Through working with other ex navy SEAL and other operatives he was coming back to himself. The higher up in the military learned that he was once a trainer in the K9 group and enlisted his help in finding these dogs and making sure that they have a life fitting for all that they had done for their country.
Ethan headed to the town in another state that had a group of men that did simliar work as that of his friend Badger. He was on his way to see Gunner when he noticed a wounded shepherd in the field off the road. It took him a while to get close enough to help her when he heard a man approached him from behind. Speaking in soft voices they were able to get the dog and get her to a clinic. It just so happened the man that had come to help was the very man from the group he was to be working with.
At the Vets whose name in Louise and a partner to one of them men he met Cinnamon or Cinn as she likes to be called. Cinn worked with rescuing dogs and animals in war torn nations or nations that have had disasters. She makes way from the to be shipped to other countries where they can be put in a foster home until they can find forever homes for them.
Cinn and Ethan develop a strange but good relationship together but they are about to face some very difficult times. A group of drug dealers don’t like what Ethan is doing and they want what they think is their back. The question is will Cinn be able to survive what the future holds? What about Ethan his is going to have his hands full will he be about to get everyone the care that they need?
You never know what is gonna happen next. It is never dull.
Of you are a dog loved this book will hit you hard. The abuse these work dogs and former military dogs suffered will break your heart. Only the Ethan saves them from this suffering and works to refrain them. I am a big fan of Dale Meyers books. She gets to the heart of her characters and what they went through before they left the service. How it changed their lives and how they let love into their lives.
Love it! Hunk men and dogs! What could be better! This is the first book in the series (and I have loved all of the author’s other series)! We are introduced to the first of a group of men who are dedicated to saving their canine companions from war. There is mystery, suspense and romance (and of course dogs!). This book had a great story, suspense some romance and a bit of sex.

A great start to a new series from Dale Mayer. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like a book about canines, but since I like this author so much, I decided to try it. and I’m glad I did. The link Ethan had with the dogs is just incredible and I thought it was very heartwarming that they cared about retired military dogs. Of course, Ethan found his love, and just the way she tells a story draws you in from the beginning until the end. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

I’m not sure what to say or where to begin. I learned so much about what our military dogs do for us and how often we fail them after their service ends. This book is a glimpse into the cracks where our vets both human and canine sometimes disappear when injured and retired from service . Oh there is a hero and heroine and some hot romance too and great writing. It is a story worth your time. I plan to read more of this series.
Not a tearjerker but certainly an emotional ride. I hope the rest of the series is just as good!
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I also purchased a copy.
I just love all of Ms. Mayer’s work. This is a great story about Ethan who takes an assignment from Badger to locate a former military K-9, Sentry. Through a series of unfortunate events, Sentry’s whereabouts are no longer known. A Commander is wanting to make sure that these former K-9s are receiving the best possible care because of their service to their country. Ethan goes to Texas to Sentry’s last known whereabouts. He sees and rescues a female shepherd and takes her to a local vet clinic. There he meets Cinnamon, a local volunteer rescue worker. The chemistry between these two was evident right from the beginning.
This story is a great one. I made myself put the book down in order to fix dinner. I was glued to my e-reader as the story was so engrossing. It was a highly intriguing plot that just hooked me in right from the beginning. The story was also written in my favorite dual POV format. This really helps me as a reader to understand the character so much better seeing how the character thinks about a given situation.
I highly recommend this story to anyone. I look forward to reading more in this series.
I really enjoyed this book! What a terrific new series. Each book does seem to stand alone, although there is an overarching narrative that connects all the stories. I love any story with a dog at the centre, and when you add in the delicious, alpha male characters Dale Mayer is so good at writing, and make them all veterans, you really can’t be disappointed. Well written and loads of fun.
Ethan is on a mission to find a lost K-9 who was retired from the military in Texas. He is on Levi’s home turf and utilizes some of the resources that Levi and Gunner have to offer. We actually see appearances from Levi and Flynn and a few others in the book. While rescuing a Sheppard he names Sally and visiting the Louise, the vet, he meets Cinnamon. Cinn works from home, but also does dog rescues. Ethan finds several dogs including Sentry at a drug op he helps bust up which only brings trouble to Cinn and him. Ethan works with the dogs and builds his relationship with Cinn. It’s a great start to the spin-off. I volunteered to read this book on Booksprout.
I loved it and had to get the next in the series. I love dogs and their heroes
Loved this book, but as always, love Dale Mayer, cannot wait to ready other books. I love animals and found it great that the animal is one of the heroes.
Love this series about wounded soldiers and their loyalty to canine warriors that served with them.
Great story! Loved the the dogs. Wish it was longer didn’t want it to end. Now half way through book two.
it was great, loved it
I got what I wished for! When I finished reading The Final Reveal, the last book in Dale Mayer’s SEALs of STEEL series, I just wasn’t ready to let go of the group. To my delight, Badger and the Titanium Corp remain alive and well…and focused on helping other wounded SEALs find satisfying productive work in post-military life. Hiring other SEALs to help in building/renovating houses for the seven newlywed couples seemed a good first step in creating a cadre of talented wounded warriors for the new company. Not knowing what type of work assignments Titanium Corp will be offered, their employees are skilled is multiple areas. Soon, Badger is approached by a commander who knows the group well and needs an assist in tracking down a dozen retired naval dogs whose whereabouts are currently unknown. As trained K9 Corp soldiers in their own right, these dogs deserve to live safe and productive lives, just like the members of Titanium Corp.
In this, the first of the K9 series, Ethan Nebberly, an electrician by trade helping in the construction of Geir’s house, and who also has eight years of service as a K9 trainer in Afghanistan, is a perfect fit for the first assignment. A bit of a loner missing his K9 partner, Ethan is looking for his niche in a non-military future. The dog he is tasked to find was called Sentry. His handler was medically discharged a quadriplegic from contact with an IED, and Sentry was sent home with him to Houston TX. Sadly, Sentry’s owner was killed in a crash soon after returning home. The family did not know how to handle Sentry and, thinking he had behavioral problems, gave him to a dog trainer, who gave him to someone else, who passed him on to yet someone else. Hoping the dog was still in Texas, and able to count on help from Levi and Legendary Security (check out the Heroes for Hire series for info on Legendary Security, Levi, Stone, Gunner, and the others), Ethan was on his way. On his way to check in at Levi’s, Ethan saw a small shepherd dog, weak and bleeding, near the road. Also trying to catch the dog was Stone, who had been so-far unsuccessful. Ethan’s skill served them well, and they headed to Anna’s and Flynn’s place to get help for the dog.
Veterinarian Cinn Michelson watched the broken dog and the broken man who brought her in. If you are a regular reader of Dale Mayer’s work, you can certainly guess that there is excitement and danger…and trust and love…ahead. You have to read to find out. I will add, though, that Ethan’s respect, understanding, and love for Sentry, especially after the treatment she had received, had my eyes tearing up before the end of the second chapter.

A great beginning to a new series with K9 dogs as the focus and their rescue. Ethan was a trainer and handler when stationed and his first assignment is to find and retrieve Sentry, a vet dog that has been “missing” and needs to be found. He gets the request from Badger, and ends up while looking for Sentry, finding another dog in bad shape. When he brings her to the vet’s, he also meets Cinnamon, a woman who also loves animals, especially dogs, and has a business that finds families to adopt dogs. While Ethan continues his search for Sentry, he finds a shady business, bringing bad news to his front door and inadvertently dragging Cinnamon into the dangerous situation as well…can he help the dogs as well as Cinnamon.
A great read with a slow burn between these two, a bit of steam, danger, some suspense, and melting heart scenes with all the dogs. I loved this beginning, Ethan was quiet, strong, and had a way with the dogs and Cinnamon didn’t beat around the bush and was a strong resilient woman. These two had sparks flying off the pages and I enjoyed their banter, along with the suspense and danger, made it page turner and a book I couldn’t put down.
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Ethan was struggling to find his place and his purpose after his military career. He agrees to a request from Badger to search for one of a number missing former military K9s. Before he can find K9-01 as he’d decided to call him, Ethan finds an abused female shepherd that he refuses to let suffer any more. Having been part of the K-9 unit in the military, he feels that he has the training and is determined that he can help “Sally” and also find the ones responsible for hurting her. Ethan also meets Cinn, another dog lover, and is drawn to her and feels a connection to another person that he hasn’t felt in a while. As they get to know each other and he looks for K9-01, someone targets Cinn and Ethan has to find a way to keep her safe.
