When one door closes … second chances open another … opportunity he can’t refuse. A chance to do the work he used to do … with a twist.
Cinnamon works from home as a project manager plus is heavily involved in global dog rescues—dogs of all kinds. When Ethan walks into the next door’s vet’s office with an injured shepherd in his arms, she sees another lost soul—just like the canine ones she helps.
Ethan knows he’s about to take a dangerous step, but he’s on the job, and no one—on the job or not—hurts animals while he’s around. This poor shepherd has taken enough abuse, and Ethan fears she is only the tip of a nightmare he’s determined to uncover. But he knows she’s going to lead him in the right direction.
He has his sights set on saving one dog in particular, Sentry: K9 File 01.

No one does damaged and broken military heroes you can’t help but love as they find redemption and love quite like Dale Mayer. When I saw this new K9 Files series featuring not only hot military heroes but also damaged K9 heroes who had served in the military and are in need of a second chance, I couldn’t resist digging into the series.
Ethan Nebberly worked with the K9 unit while he served and he’s still trying to find his footing in civilian life, so he’s the perfect choice when Titanium Security takes on a special request to locate several military War Dogs who have fallen through the cracks. His quest to find K9:01, Sentry, leads him to a petite, feisty dog rehabber who catches his eye, but her life becomes endangered when Ethan stumbles across an illegal operation in his search for Sentry.
Hang on tight, because this is a wild ride full of non-stop action and suspense as Cinn and Ethan try to rescue the dogs and avoid the bad guys. You’ll love this wounded warrior and this strong, determined heroine, and you’ll fall for all of the dogs with their unique personalities and the difficulties they’ve endured. This is a quick, easy read full of suspense and heart that you don’t want to miss.
*I reviewed an advance copy of this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide a review and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
Excellent start to a series. He is lost until he is offered a job that is right up his alley. She is a vet who is taking care of abused animals. They meet when he brings in one that he is particular about. But it goes deeper than that. There are a lot of twists and turns, excitement, emotions and so much more. It pulls at your heart strings in spots. I loved it and highly recommend it. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
A fantastic new series with mentions of characters from other series, I know I’m going to love it. Former war dogs need to be found, they retired from service and deserve a better life. With their former handlers dead or injured they are lost in the cracks. Ethan is our first hero determined to find this missing K9, he’s a dog whisperer and these dogs could be killers.
Such an interesting plot and engaging characters, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am LOVING this new series by Dale Mayer! Its such a great thrilling sizzling romantic ride that has lots of action, fabulous characters and a easy follow plot that is incredibly engaging. Ethan was a real delight to read.
Ethan is the first in a spin-off series featuring a military vet finding his way after being medically discharged and finding his way to heal through the act of helping abused dogs heal and of course finding a woman to break down the wall around his heart. I enjoyed the interaction between Ethan and Cinn.
This is a story to warm your heart and give you hope.
Except for an overly risqué passage at the end, this was a very fun read. I love a good action story, and this one had animal rescue as the main theme. How much more fun can you get than that!
I had heard so many good things about this author. This is the first book of hers that I have read. I kept wondering where the romance was in the book. I really wasn’t feeling Ethan and Cinnamon as a romantic couple. They seemed more like good friends with a mild attraction.
Ethan working with the dogs was a little too perfect. I could even accept the way he and Sally connected, but the other two dogs….No. I know know nothing about training a dog, but let’s just say that his control over them was surprising to say the least.
I did like Ethan. He was trying to find himself after leaving the military. I liked the way he helped her out, took care of her, and protected her. Now that I think about it, other than the splinter incident, she didn’t seem that engaged with Ethan. I don’t know what to say about Cinn. She really didn’t make me feel anything in particular. The story was ok. It was more about a man, his dogs, and his friend.
I thought the story about the compound where the dogs were being held had too many holes in it. Why were they training the dogs to kill? How did they find out about Ethan?
I’m not sure if I will read the next book. This one was 2.5 stars for me. I wish Ethan and Cinn had some chemistry, or developed an interesting romance, or something.
4 stars . This was a good book. I’d read the series if they were on KU but they’re not and I have too many others I want to read that either are on KU or that I already own.
I loved this book and can’t wait to read more in this series.
I love it…I really really love this book. I love everything, the loveable characters, the wildness but awesome K9s, the suspense that got my heart racing all the time, the sweetness between Ethan and Cinn, and the awesomeness of a K9s handler that so captivating. Although I’m missing the camaraderie that always occurs on Dale Mayer suspense military books, I found Ethan as a loner is quite refreshing, and kinda intensified the suspense, when you’re alone and on a mission to bring down the bad guys, everything felt more intense.
So yes, this book definitely one of my favourite books from Dale Mayer.
If you love suspense romance and a dog lover, you’ll love this book.
Very enjoyable and easy to read!
This book that is full of honour, respect, mystery, suspense & romance and dogs.
What more could you ask for?
Such an interesting plot and engaging characters as well as a thought provoking and a beautiful story., I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I cannot wait for more from this series by Dale Mayer.
Awesome book
Good read.
People bonding with animals seems to touch my soul. The one men who have defended our country in the armed forces and had the opportunity to use the skills of canines is heartwarming. This book shows how to redeem broken bodies and damaged psyches to regenerate usefulness in today’s society.
Easy read and good start to a new series with some visits from some of your favorite characters from past books.
A very sweet pleasant especially for dog lovers.
I’m not fond of the top steaming love scenes but I do love the story line
Couldn’t put it down
Loved the concept and the story. Lots of action to keep me reading until late in the night.
