I’m a murderer. A Killer. I’ve single-handedly slaughtered thousands without a second thought—and I don’t remember any of it.I’m the Goddess of Death, given a second chance at redemption as a human. To right the wrongs of my past, I’ll have to learn about the person I was and the men I once loved. Because my enemies are back with a vengeance, and I’m going to have to do what I do best: Kill them.… I do best:
Kill them.

I love both of these authors. They have very distinct styles, and their storytelling abilities are amazing. I was also a big fan of their first co-write project, The Deadly Game.
I struggled with this book. Don’t get me wrong. It’s well-written and the characters are well-developed. The premise of the story is really interesting, and I wanted to love this story, but I just couldn’t get into it. Even now, I’m struggling to articulate what it was for me that didn’t click. I keep coming back to Helena, and maybe it’s that I couldn’t relate to her. I mean, this is about the soul of a goddess in a human’s body; I know I’m not going to be able to RELATE, but usually there’s something in a character that you can grab onto. I think some of it was that I wish there was a bit more in the way of her remembering her past, rather than relying on the gods quite so much for information? I don’t know. It could even be something like I wasn’t in the right headspace.
I’m sure some people are thinking, “How can you rate it a 4 then?” The answer is this: for what it is, the story is good. As I mentioned above, it’s well-written, interesting, developed characters with history, and it was entertaining enough. Just because I can’t articulate why it wasn’t quite there for me doesn’t make it any less of a well-written story, it doesn’t mean there’s any less talent here and you’re not always going to love every story an author (or authors) put out. I’m sure there’s lot of people who love this book. There’ve been some novels I’ve read that really push some boundaries for me. Did I enjoy them? No, not fully, but the writing was impeccable, so I still rated them well. That’s the same in this case. I will typically rate lower if I feel the writing wasn’t very good/isn’t edited well, if it feels forced or unnatural, if I’m not interested in carrying on the series, if there was multiple things that put me off about the book, if there are things in it that actually detract or distract from the story, or if I actually disliked it (that’s really rare). None of that happened here, and there is still a chance that I will read the next book. These authors have an incredible talent for story telling; they’re entertaining, and the book accomplished the goal of being a temporary distraction and escape.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
These two incredible authors sure do know how to start a series off right. We meet Helena who believes she is completely human until events cause her to think otherwise. Then she learns that she is really the Goddess of Death and so very much more which is really all I can say without giving anything away. This book has some amazing world building that will really suck you into the story and you will not want it to end. Perfect for fans of paranormal/mythology RH novels. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Big crazy God’s at its best! so much fun reading this baby! Helena aka Hela is god of war except she cant remember anything. She was reborn and sent to the human world and has more enemies and than friends. Good thing she has good looking men watching out for her. And they happen to be gods themselves. sexy yummy and more sexy! Great story! we meets tons of Gods and find out exactly what the Gods are up too. Thor is the big baddy on this one..who happens to be Hela’s own brother. Yikes! cant wait for the next one! Also Hela has one girl best friend Val and she is freaking awesome! She has a short story feature in the love potion anthology “eternal hearts”. beautiful! I have a huge crush on Val!!!**I have Kindle Unlimited, and I used that service to read this book. **
Very interesting book. I’m not sure how I feel about it entirely. I’m not much of a fan on mythology so I’m glad that G. Bailey explained the basics about each person. I will be reading the next book. I love G. Bailey! The ending did take me by surprise though.
Overall: 4/5
4.5
I loved this book. June and Bailey are a great team. The book was interesting and sucks you in right away. Helena is an interesting MFC and likable. I loved the guys but we have much to learn about them. It seemed a bit rushed/forced in places but still high in the recommendation list.
ES is the baby of The Forsaken Gods series, ES is the cube to your pack, ES is the life/birth to your death/rebirth…okay maybe that was bad but ES is the first book to this series. Greek gods are coming out to play in astonishing series, the question what we must ask is will they kill off Loki like they did in the MCU or will it be an illusion that will take place (I’m still a little mad that they did that although it’d explain his absence because he will have his own Loki show)? Anyways before I go off topic again, every read the blurb, then pick up & read the book, and review so Bailey & June could start working on book 2, Eternal Bound.
I enjoyed this first book in the new series cowritten by Coralee June and G Bailey. I love mythology so this one was amazing to read and get to see both Greek and Norse mythology mixed in. Our MC, Helena, has a lot of different aspects I connected with instantly (her love of wolves, how she loved learning and ready mythology books, and her relationship with her Nan and Val). She gets thrown for a loop when she is told she is really the dead goddess of death, Hela, and the men she has an instant attraction/connection with are her previous lovers who happen to also be gods. Helena has a tough time traversing being both Hela and Helena. I liked the little comments about the characters stories and connections. Loved nerving out!!
I think the only reason I couldn’t give it a 5 star rating is because of the instant-love and Helena sorta being ok with everything. I think at times the story was a little choppy, especially ending and beginning new chapters. I mean I felt like I missed a scene sometimes because it jumped so much without warning and the characters moved forward/progressed without telling/showing the readers, if that makes sense. These little things didn’t deter me from loving the story though, and I had a tough time putting it down to eat and pay attention to the world around me haha. I would definitely recommend this series (anything written by these lovely ladies, really) and cannot wait for Book 2 which should be coming out in the next couple weeks/months.
I will say I want to learn more about the guys. I think Loki and Clay are my favorite (I totally have a thing for teacher so Alex is super appealing but I didn’t get enough of him to really love him 100% yet). I liked the bad guys in this one too, intrigued to see where Coralee and Gem take the story
I love what this author team has done with bringing old Greek gods and goddesses into the modern age. Hela and her harem are saucy and sweet – I’m excited for more!
