So I love Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti’s books, but I haven’t read this series yet. I will admit to trying to start it back in December, but never got around to finishing book 1. I am just going to say that past me was an idiot. I had to force myself to to pause reading book 2 at 66% to actually go and write a review for book 1.
The world they created is so different from what we see is others of their series, but it is still so well developed. I love the dystopian feel of this world where humans distorted their world to the point that the vampires, who previously hid in the shadows, were able to take over.
Callie & Montana are amazing characters, each in their own way. I seriously cannot wait to see what happens next (case in point I am almost done with book 2). Granted, these books are quite a bit shorter then some of their others, so two books are still shorter then others they have written.
I am so glad I carved out the time to read this series, definitely one to read!
A Vampire & A Reawakened Slayer, Each Entwined With A Separated Twin!
Eternal Reign (Age of Vampires #1)
This was a bit long winded in places, I felt, but was still enjoyable & definitely worth reading! I’ve found the storyline completely gripping. The slayer awakening after a thousand years is a great plot twist. I do like how feisty the twins are & I’m fascinated by their differences too. I’d like to see inside Erik’s head! I’m really hoping their whole family makes it. I’m off to start book #2.

Twin sisters stand on opposite sides of an ancient war between vampire rulers and Blessed Warriors. This is unlike any vampire series you’ve ever read with compelling characters and a nonstop, unpredictable plot. MUST READ
This is book 1 of the Age of Vampires series.. it is full of Humans, Vampires and a Slayer.. the main characters are Callie (child of the Sun) and Montana Ford (child of the moon) and Magnar Eliose the Slayer. The Vampires Erik, Fabian and Clarice .. the Belvedere’s.
In this book you read about exciting action, battles of the heart and an evil curse. I love how the interaction is between all of the Characters… the relationships that build are beautiful .. I couldn’t put it down for a minute.. a definite page turner… Loved this book
Eternal Reign by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti is a fascinating paranormal dystopian vampire novel. The authors introduce us to twin girls – Montana and Callie. They are living in an afterworld of destruction created by humans and capitalized on by the vampires when the time was right. The girls live with their father in practical destitution while living in fear of the vampires who rule over them. The time for The Testing for the girls has arrived, and they know what that means…if they are found to be compatible…they will be taken away. When they make a plan to run, their escape is foiled, and they find themselves on separate paths that they never could have seen coming.
Eternal Reign is an engaging story about Montana and Callie. The story alternates between the sisters’ chapter by chapter. I find the story fascinating as the authors show us a world torn apart by humanity by relentless wars and quests for power. It is resoundingly eerie. While the girls do differ in certain areas, you’ll see that they are very much alike in temperament and various aspects of their personalities. The authors weave in a few surprises here and there in the story with the various characters that we are introduced to.
I truly enjoyed this book, but I honestly wanted a bit more diversity in the personalities of the girls. They both have strong, aggressive attitudes. I totally understand that they resent the vampires for all that they have suffered in the 21 years that they have been alive, but I think that the story would have been a bit more balanced if one of the girls had gradually developed a backbone/attitude towards her situation. I also felt that their smugness in certain situations was just plain arrogance, and it honestly annoyed me. Take away certain aspects and things and they (the girls) are once again a helpless human.
All in all, I found the story fascinating and enjoyable. I have to admit that there is more than one moment in the story of where I wanted the vampires to triumph in certain situations because I felt the hero(s) were too heavily favored, but that’s me. LOL! I like the twists and surprises that the authors write into this book. I applaud them for their seamless writing style. You can’t tell when they alternate in their storytelling and it’s great. I am eagerly anticipating the next book in this series. I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.
