Jane is back. The only way of coping with Seth’s absence after being released from prison and in a bid to leave her old life behind for good, Jane starts afresh miles away and assumes a new identity. When problems arise at her place of work, she accepts an unexpected job offer. She’s doing alright. That is until she finds herself embroiled in a bitter feud between rival firms. It would be easier if … would be easier if she could be honest with the people she’s learnt to trust about who she really is, but she’s got too much to lose.
Situations become even more complicated when it becomes apparent Jane isn’t the only one not who they appear to be.
No matter how hard she tries, the net is closing in. Not everything can be left in the past and some things just can’t be changed. The life she’d trying so desperately to forget is fast threatening to catch up with her.
This book contains written depictions of graphic violence, sex and strong language. It also contains subjects that some readers may find distressing. **Over 18’s only**

Brilliant!!!!
Oh my goodness I started reading this book with trepidation. Book one was so dark and gruesome I really wasn’t sure I if could cope with anymore. But wow, am I glad I took the plunge!!! This story isn’t quite as gruesome but it still has it’s moments……some of the characters are the same, but different, their personalities continually evolving and new characters are introduced. The story is a tangled web, which I absolutely love, made into an amazing read by Edie Baylis’ awesome writing talent. Can’t wait to dive straight in to book 3!
Lots of moving parts in this book.
It seems as if everyone has a secret and their secrets consume them.
The relationship between Seth and Jane was interesting—he believing she is dead and Jane believing she has killed them.
They have a bond though that’s been forged by fire, and they love each other in a way that’s stronger than most other characters.
The plot is dark, but that’s what makes this book so compelling.
A great psychological read.
Set 5 years after the events in the first book, this one catches up with not only Jane, but Eliza, Maggie and Digger as well. And an unexpected blast from the past. The way their lives converge once more is cleverly done. There are a number of places where you think people are going to meet, but they don’t. It leaves you on the edge of your seat, wondering what is going to happen when they eventually do. This book flows nicely and leads you forward through the story. The new characters that are introduced are interesting.
Book 1 was good. This one is better. I can’t wait to read book 3.
Drugs, money, sex and more sex. In this book the characters story and back stories become more available. I don’t want to say too much about the story because I could easily keep going and give it all the way. I definitely do not like spoilers.
I will say one thing though, the author takes these characters who you would find in the grungiest cesspool and makes you like them. Makes feel for them and their situation. That right there is what makes a great writer. Bravo!
Oh, yes, Jane is back.
Seth is back, too.
It’s been several years, they’re no longer in their prior haunts and they’re both going by assumed names, but what really matters to both of them is that they’re each convinced the other is dead and likely to remain so.
With as much sex and perhaps more alcohol than the previous book, but less drugs, the story proceeds in its usual fashion, with both of them rather embittered over the loss of their one true love, until the inevitable occurs – they come face to face.
It’s an incredible shock to both of them, to say the least. Perhaps needless to say, they don’t simply drop everything to leap into each other’s arms. After all, the last time Seth saw Jane, she was stabbing him in the chest.
What happens next? Oh, come now. You can’t really expect me to spoil all of your fun, can you?
WARNING: Written depictions of graphic violence, sex and strong language. It also contains some themes that may be uncomfortable for certain readers
Jane Ellerton has a new name, a new identity. After being released from prison, she felt she had no choice but to start over somewhere new …. and hopefully forget about what she had done to deserve prison life.
She finds herself a decent job, but there are problems. Her boss offers her a job which in turn, plops her right in the middle of two rival firms.
It is then that she realizes she isn’t the only one who is not what they proclaim to be.
This one didn’t do a lot for me. The plot is somewhat complex, with many points of view from different people that I couldn’t connect to. The first book in this series was better and while this can be a stand alone, I would highly recommend reading them in order.
“Bad” language and explicit sex doesn’t bother me … but I found that both in this story were over-the-top and seemed gratuitous and didn’t add a lot to what could have been a really good story.
Many thanks to the author / THE Book Club Reviewer Group (FB) for the digital copy of ESCAPING THE PAST. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This one continues down the dark and twisted road that the first novel began. The story centers around both Jane and Seth as they both attempt to move on with their lives and leave the past buried but as the title suggests, escaping the past isn’t so easy because both of them believes that the other is dead. Their worlds eventually collides as do many other dark secrets that plays out. The story is dark, edgy, filled with violence and plenty of drug and alcohol abuse but that goes with their world. A great story that I highly recommend!
Edie Baylis is able to take characters that are distasteful and make a reader fall in love with them. This book had some excellent twists to it that I didn’t see coming. There was plenty of suspense! Be aware though, if you have triggers, you’ll want to pass on this because it knows how to bring violence. If you can handle it, the book is a solid read.
The character development and world building overall was good. As it is a lengthier book, the author strives to showcase several characters, which can be a bit overwhelming. However, it does provide uniqueness and an atypical writing style. I do feel condensing it would be better which is why the deduction but once it started really picking up pace for me it became captivating. It just had a slightly slow build but it’s definitely worth the read though! I’m looking forward to more from this author as each book really grows.
4 stars for a solid, twisted, suspenseful read! Recommend.
