Everything inside of him is screaming that he needs to run, he needs to go, he needs to escape.Lane Warner is used to being overshadowed and overlooked. After all, he’s the youngest brother and the most laid back one in the family. He’s the one known for going with the flow and not making waves, even when things seem to be at their worst.Very few things in life have had the ability to rile Lane up … have had the ability to rile Lane up and get under his skin. At the top of that list is his childhood friend Brynn Fox…no…Brynn Warner. The fact that they share a last name was the one thing that has the power to light him up and spin him out of control like no other. There was no calm, cool and collected when it comes to all the reasons why Brynn had to become part of his family.
It’s slowly killing him to keep wanting what he can’t have, so Lane sees only one way to stop himself from doing something they’ll both regret…he has to leave.
Everything inside of her is calling out to find him, to follow, to bring him home.
Brynn Warner is used to being stuck between a rock and a hard place.
After all, she’s the daughter of an unrepentant gold-digger who never once blinked at being the cause of her daughter’s pain and suffering.
Very few things in her life have ever brought happiness and a sense of security. At the very top of that list is Lane Warner. She has unwaveringly loved the youngest Warner since the first minute she laid eyes on him. He was everything Brynn ever wanted and everything she knew she could never have.
Sometimes the right choice is the one that hurts the most and Brynn’s had to make a few that felt like they might be the end of her.
When Lane takes off, one thing is clear, the only choice Brynn has is to go after him.
She’s going to bring her wayward cowboy home….whatever it takes.
Escape is a standalone novel, the third book in the Getaway series, which features the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women who dare to love them. These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.

I absolutely love Jay Crownover. I love how each series is separate but sometimes she sneaks in characters from her other series. I loved that Brynn and Lane got their own HEA.
Escape was a sexy and suspenseful standalone contemporary romance in the Getaway series, and I really enjoyed it. The storyline and characters were interesting and entertaining, although a little different than I originally expected. I’ve really enjoyed the Getaway series and all of the characters and storylines that Jay Crownover has created, and I’m looking forward to reading the next standalone, Runaround.
Loved it !!
Sweet romance with a trip down family lane and a foray into the dark side.
Brynn has a heart of gold! She gives so freely to everyone but has held herself back from Lane since the age of 18.
Lane is a laid back cowboy, always trying to do the right thing, taking care of everyone and everything
Just once she wants him to see the love and fire burning in her and not her broken wings. Beware Brynn, because once that spark is lit, the fire will be all-consuming!
Fixing all he overlooked as a fearful eighteen year old, intent in helping his best friend while being a model son to his dying dad, is all Lane has in his mind. Until a scream for help in the black of night puts them on a collision course into the dark side of life outside their ranch.
Enter Bauer. He’ll tell you his story, so I won’t. But I fell in love with that kid much as Brynn and Lane did. Brynn’s beautiful heart opened wide and showers this teen with so much love and her mama bear tendencies appeared. And Lane? The following weeks and months since they met Bauer, Lane found himself showing love much the way his father did and taking pride in it. He got the girl of his heart and the enriched family on the ranch he loved. Home.
And the wedding reception?! Howwwww? I need Webb and Ten’s story right now! *stomps feet*
The story of the youngest Warner brother and the girl who he always loved, but felt he could never have was an amazing ending to yet another fabulous series by Jay Crownover. I don’t know how she does it, but her book always steal my attention so badly, I choose to ignore everything for at least one more minute of reading her beautiful words!
Lane Warner is the youngest of three brothers, and he always felt as the odd one, not as ambitious or driven as Cy, and certainly not as Sutton, who never seemed to be able to find himself on the family ranch. On contrary, Lane loves it, but he always felt he was standing in their shadows. He always wanted to make them proud. As two older brothers move on in life creating their own family with women they love, it feels like the right time, at last, for Lane to try and find his own path to the happily-ever-after. Brynn, his best friend turned… something… finally had enough of his attitude that started the day she finally felt safe and protected thanks to the Warner men. She was finally aware of her worth, finally free from the terrible past and everything she endured, finally ready to fight for her cowboy – if only he would stop looking at her like a victim who needs his protection, and more like a woman who seeks his love.
“I didn’t need Lane Warner to save me, but I wanted him to love me. I wanted him, period.”
The road to self-discovery and love is hard, but even harder when on the road they get caught up in the dangerous and suspicious things while saving a young, lost boy. This amazing romantic suspense was carefully planned, and everything falls in place as it should. It’s a rough ride, though, and getting all the answers is as exciting as it gets. I loved the first two stories in the series, but this one definitely stole my heart.
“Without him, nothing felt like it mattered. There was no home. There was no peace of mind. There was no safety and security.”
It’s a truly wild ride, dealing with a difficult-to-talk-about topics, such as domestic abuse, or parental neglect, raw and heartbreking, full of surprises (THAT ENDING LEFT ME SPEECHLESS), but the romance is in no way neglected – it’s as intense and passionate and heartbreaking and lovely as any love story in Jay Crownover’s books. These are two lovers who finally cross each other’s paths at the right time, and the result couldn’t have be more beautiful. RECOMMENDED READ!
“We were friends who turned into lovers – lovers who were going to do their very best to be each other’s forever.”
I thought I knew what this book was going to be about before reading it. Two people who since they were little formed a strong bond in friendship that turned into unrequited love and circumstances broke that bond for many years. I thought it would take the whole book for these two to mend their friendship and finally become lovers. Color me pleasantly surprised when that was resolved within the first couple chapters.
Now what does that mean for the rest of the book? Well a story thread from her Point series is introduced and a character from her Marked Men series plays a part in that thread. LOVED THAT.
From the first book in this series we knew Lane and Brynn should be together – didn’t know the full story of their lives which we finally get – so for me the bonus of getting the connected story from her other series was awesome.. Another treat was having Tennyson, Webb and his DEA brother Wyatt be a big part of the story line. I really hope the author one day gives us Tennyson and Webb’s story..
Escape is the third book in the Getaway series and I’m hoping it’s not the last. I’ve been looking forward to Lane’s story since the very beginning. My first Jay Crownover book was Built and I’ve made it top priority to read every book she’s released since. She never disappoints with her writing or her characters. The writing is always top notch and the characters well developed, likable, sexy and sweet. She always seems to make me laugh even when I want to cry.
Lane and Brynn have such a complicated relationship. They were best friends then they were almost strangers. She needed help and Lane’s dad stepped in years ago. Lane felt as though he lost her and he filled the void with nameless women. When Brynn seems to have found her happy, Lane can’t sit by and watch. He runs. Runs away from his home and family. The home that is where he belongs. Brynn does the only thing possible, she goes after him. Now that they are forced to spend time alone together can they finally admit their feelings? Talk about what went wrong all those years ago? Finally get over the past and have the future they are destined to have together? Along the way, they face obstacles, danger and a person in need of help. They work together to do what needs to be done. They aren’t going to waste any more time being apart. Ever. No matter what life throws their way. I love this couple! They are meant for each other and when they finally admit it, sparks fly and hearts heal. I was captured in their spell and I didn’t ever want to look away. I hope there is more from this series, I’ve become attached to the Warners and the people they consider family.
“I’m proud of you, Lane. You are an amazing brother, a fantastic uncle, and you are a good man. You have the best parts of all of us in you, which is why I know you will do right by Brynn, even if it means staying to face all your fears.”
The boy was already irresistible with that killer smile and inherent cowboy swagger. When he had a guitar in his hands, and a love song slipped from his lips, he was more potent than the oldest whiskey and the strongest drug.
“I have one of those myself, complete with a southern accent that makes everyone who gets near him act stupid and goofy. Keep an eye on your man. You cowboy seems like a good guy.”
I thought I was ready for the youngest Warner’s story; I anticipated the complications that would surround Lane and Brynn due to the nature of their interwoven pasts and the unrequited and unspoken love that they felt for one another, but I could never have prepared myself for just how tortured both characters are by two simple words…Brynn’s ‘no’ to a young Lane’s request and Brynn’s ‘yes’ to someone who would irrevocably change the dynamics of Brynn and Lane’s relationship the very day she uttered that word and even now despite the amount of time that has passed and the reasons behind Brynn becoming a Warner all those years ago.
Just like the previous two stories in the series, Escape involves some high intensity situations amongst the heartbreaking and heartwarming scenes between Lane and Brynn. It’s time for them to be honest about their feelings and about the reasons for the dissolution of their friendship, and while it’s clear that this conversation won’t be an easy one and it might stir up a good amount of anger and sadness, if they can’t be completely open with each other, they do not stand a chance at repairing their connection and perhaps even having a second chance at a first time love.
Jay Crownover masterfully weaves Lane and Brynn’s past and the actions that destroyed their friendship and made them both miserable with their present – a pivotal time that will either mend their fractured relationship or decimate any chance they have for building a new bond – one that will sustain any further roadblocks and help them to move forward as united and loving partners, sharing a connection like Lane’s two older brothers have with their significant others – the women who brought Cyrus and Sutton back to life and made them whole again.
Even though it’s time to say goodbye to the extended Warner clan with the ending of the series, their heart….their fight…their stories will remain with me and with many readers because this series is one that allowed readers to become a member of the Warner family and revel in their happiness as well as witness how they move beyond their painful pasts and find the person who fits them in every way.
I’m always in awe of Jay Crownover’s storytelling…as an English teacher, I’m enthralled with well written books – stories that seem to effortlessly use the English language and construct an endearing and entertaining plot line that I just can’t get enough of and time and time again, I find those kinds of stories every time I open up a Jay Crownover original.
5 Poison Apples (The Fairest of All Book Reviews)
Lane is no gentleman, but boy does he try to be. To the outside world he’s easy going, irresistible Lane Warner. Yet looks can be deceiving, he’s running scared. He longs to break free and find his own niche in life and follow his heart in love. His inner demons could cost him his heart’s desire. Brynn has seen her share of tragedy. Her life has not been ideal, but she got by. With a little love, hope and her own knight in shining armor. Lane is all her dreams come true, but foolish pride and shattered dreams drove him away. Will the love that never was, get it’s chance to finally be? Escape thrives on emotion. Yearning, heartache and redemption take center stage as we cruise the highway of love.
Brynn Warner had a rough and unstable childhood, and when things became so out of control that she worried about her personal safety she turned to her friend Lane Warner. Then he did something completely unexpected and offered himself to her in marriage in order to save her from what her mother was putting her through, but she just couldn’t bring herself to say yes, for so many reasons. Then another unlikely hero offered her an out from the hell she was living in, and she reluctantly accepted his help, and in doing so drove a wedge between her and the only man she had ever loved. With the years that followed she noticed the distance between her and Lane, but she fought hard to hang onto him in anyway she could, because he brought her a sense of peace no one else could, and she needed it. So they worked alongside one another on the Warner ranch, pretending they didn’t share feelings for one another, and tried their best to not let said feelings show, and it worked for them for a while. But then someone took an interest and Brynn and things went a little array and Lane decided he didn’t want to stick around and see how it would all play out… so he left, and took Brynn’s heart along with him.
Leaving Brynn behind was the hardest thing that Lane Warner has ever had to do, he has loved her for most of his life and having someone else offering to take his place in her life was something he wasn’t about to stand around and watch unfold, so he left. Running to his brother’s place he not only found a hideout, but a place that helped him to see what he was potentially missing out on by leaving the love of his life behind. No matter how much she hurt him in the past, he still loved her deeply, and knew she was it for him, but he isn’t so sure those feelings are returned on her part. So he is completely surprised when she follows him to California in hopes of convincing him to come home… question is can he find it in himself to forgive her and start a new chapter in their lives?
Within the pages of Escape you will meet two wounded souls in desperate need of a saving and a well earned second chance. This beautifully crafted tale follows them on their heart-wrenching journey of forgiveness and rediscovering a love they thought was lost, and all I can say is be prepared for an overwhelming case of the feels… cause this one packs a serious punch!! This is my first visit to the series, and I am so kicking myself for not making time to read the other novels in the series, this one was amazing, so I can only imagine how great the others are… I definitely plan to get to them soon!! I highly recommend you get your hands on this book, it is riddled with heartfelt emotion that is certain to give you the feels, steamy scenes that are sure to inspire a few swoons, and comes equipped with two characters that you can’t help but lose your heart to!
