A new adventure hatches in the first book of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 35 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation. When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon … brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.
Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.
Features interlocking art that reveals an image across the spines of all four books! And don’t miss the most recent book set in Eragon’s world, The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm: Tales from Alagaësia!

This is the book that convinced me to take a shot at writing. I said to myself, “If a 15 year old kid can write a good fantasy book, so can I.” Well, of course, he wasn’t just some kid. He was the talented young author who motivated me to take a chance, and it has led me to the career I now enjoy. There would be no Whill of Agora without Eragon. So if you haven’t yet, check it out. It is a solid series.
For being so young when writing this book, it is wonderfully written. He does a great job at building the story and developing relationships between the reader and characters. Great read for fans of LOTR.
This entire series deserves a better movie than the first one got. Anthony Horowitz’s Alex Rider series deserves either a continuation of its first film or a total reboot as well.
I felt in love again! This book is amazing I want more, I count the days for the next book to come out!
Got this for my son and I ended up reading it been hooked ever since.
i like t
I always loved sci-fi/fantasy & this really hit it out of the park in that respect.
The book had interesting characters and also the world. I liked the action as a continuation.
Way too many info-dumps and cliches. Just not for me. Last 50 pages were pretty good though, but considering this is a 400-page book, it’s keeping the one star.
another case of the first book in a series being the best. Totally engaging pretext and good characterizations.
I aspire to be as great a storyteller as Paolini. Eragon is a classic coming of age/adventure story. I wanted so badly to visit the world he creates with the Inheritance Cycle. This story is a must-read for fantasy lovers of all ages.
One of the best series ever loved it when I was in school
AWESOME!!
“Eragon” has set the boundaries for modern-day fantasy genre for books. The characters and plotline are original and brought me back to my love for reading fiction books set in the world of dragons, elves, dwarves, and magic.
I would have given this book five stars, but cliffhangers are a pet peeve for me!
The story was well written and very interesting. The development of the Eragon character is phenomenal. The world building makes it easy for me to visualize the different places. I was sadden with what happened to Brom, but the scene afterwards was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. I intrigued by Arya and Nasuada. I am so glad that this series is fully out because the wait would drive me crazy! I’ll be starting book two soon.
Loved the series. One of my favorites.
Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle, #1) by Christopher Paolini – Is the book like the movie? Sort of. Should they have made the movie like the book? Heck yes! Impressive world building, action sequences, long term set up, and character bonds! It has everything there is to love about high fantasy! And dragons! Happy Reading!
I have a very biased opinion of this novel and this series. I love it. As a young girl I read this book and fell in love with the fantasy genre in an instant. Imaginative and immersive, the world building is outstanding, the characters are well developed and feel genuine. Eragon takes classic plots and enriches it with a world worth getting to know.
This is one of my top five books of all time. I love this book! From the distingushed detailed descriptions of the individual tribes and people to the correct generalisations that they have to even do a little foreshadowing thoughtout. The book was such a majestic piece for its time and still to this day I find myself riding Saphira in my imagination…
I really loved this book. Eragon is such a lovable character. His relationship with Saphira is perfect. I love her too. I will definitely be continuing the series.
