Genre: LGBT ParanormalEcon student Hansen Marks has been hot for Sam MacLeod since they first bonded over their secret superpowers–literally hot, since Hansen can produce fire from thin air. But soccer star Sam was always covered in girls, so Hansen kept his attraction in the closet and convinced himself that “best friends” was better than nothing. When Sam’s electrical powers freak out in … out in public, Hansen has a sinking feeling they’ve been spotted by unfriendly eyes. While dealing with the fallout, Sam’s emotional dependency on Hansen forces their mutual attraction to the surface. Even after they give in, Hansen is afraid to admit he’s in love. Sam doesn’t really like guys, he’s just feeling vulnerable…right?
Just as their nights are heating up, it becomes clear Sam’s electrical explosion was seen, and now someone has it in for both of them. They’ll have to save each other, both from the haters and from their own fears, if they want to maintain equilibrium.

Nice series start! Hansen and Sam become best friends in school. Hansen has been secretly in love with Sam, but he settles for friendship. They both have superpowers, known and unknown which facilitates their bonding friendship. One day, while still at school in public, Sam has a public superpower malfunction. This facilitates a development and enhancement of their personal feelings for each other. This leads to a huge emotional challenge for both while seeking enlightment. Then onewitness to the malfunction is not a keep the mouth shut and let bygones be bygones type. Is exposure a problem? Does Sam get his gifts under control? Can Sam like Hansen back? Are they safe from exposure? Nice series beginning. Good setting foundation of this world. Nciely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Equilibrium is book one in the Superpowered Series.
Best friends & roommates to lovers, first time, super powers, steamy. It’s got all this wrapped up in a short read that can easily be read in one sitting.
These guys are great. They help each other, they both have powers that can not be shown to others. They are so different from each other but work great together.
Enjoyable read.
I absolutely loved it, it was so sweet and adorable and just the right amount of suspense and angst to boot. I loved how Hansen and Sam just perfectly fit together and how they finaly came together after Hansen loved Sam for years. I loved the supernatural element as well and how their powers compliment each other. It was well written and the story played out great and I loved the other characters as well. I can not wait to see what happens next. Kate Hawthrone well done on a great book.
MM, Friends to Lover’s, First Time, Romance. Great short read, dramatic and with action going on throughout the story. Likeable characters, humour and wit with low angst. Alot of story packed into a short but perfectly formed book. Thoroughly enjoyed reading their story.
This was a really good, fun story to read. Both Sam and Hansen were likeable characters! They both have paranormal powers and have to hide them. They are best friends who happen to like each other but keep that hidden as well. This is the start to what I think will be a good series. this was a really good story, really well written, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
I enjoyed this quick read. It has an intriguing premise, two likeable MCs in Hansen and Sam, decent world-building, good action, and romance. Although part of a series, it stands alone and is a complete story.

Hansen and Sam were born with paranormal powers that they need to hide from the mainstream society. Hansen can control heat and fire while Sam struggles with controlling electrical energy. They met at college and bonded over their powers with Hansen helping Sam control and accept his powers. They became roommates and after college, they moved to an apartment together as best friends. Hansen has always been attracted to Sam but Sam is usually surrounded by girls. Hansen thinks that Sam is straight and could never be interested in a plain nobody like him.
Then one night while they were out at a bar with Sam’s friends, Sam loses control of his powers and Hansen has to use his power to stop an electrical fire. Two of their normal friends saw it and Sam and Hansen are worried that their friends will expose them. As the two work together doing damage control, they finally act on the feelings of attraction they have both been fighting. They have become friends with benefits. Sam wants more but Hansen is still afraid that Sam will break his heart because they are so different.
This is a good start to a new series. I received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.
Fast quick read! Great start to a new series! I’m excited to see where Ms. Hawthorne takes us next! I read an advanced copy of this story and this is my unbiased review!
Really nice mix of friends to lovers in a universe where both Sam and Hansen have superpowers they need to hide from those who hate/hunt them for those powers. If you ever wanted the X-Men to have a gay romance, this is the series form you. These are short, punchy reads with great characters.
This was a very entertaining read.
I really enjoyed this start to a new series.
I can’t wait to read what comes next.
This was a great read! A bit short but an amazing start to the series! Hanson and Sam were so perfect together! It was amazing to see how Hanson and Sam were able to accept each other while dealing with emotional issues! They were able to help each other learn to love! I’m super excited to read more of this series!
A short, sweet read with GFY
I liked the premise here and I thought it was executed well. This isn’t an angsty GFY and I got the feeling that Sam didn’t really have much of a structured/rigid perception of his own sexuality (ie thinking of himself very clearly in terms of straight/gay/bi) because he accepts his attraction to Hansen. One of the things I don’t always like about GFY is how sexual attraction is approached (very rigidly or with characters torturing themselves over it – that is not at all to say that I haven’t read fantastic GFY where a character struggles with their sexuality, but it has to be done well for me to enjoy it as a reader). The story itself isn’t particularly complex. It’s easy to follow along in general though I would have loved some more world-building. I think, for me, that would be what would have really pushed this closer to a 5 star. That being said, I think we’ll get that in the next book which I’m looking forward to.
Hansen and Sam have been friends for some time, bonding over their secret superpowers. Hansen has had the hots for Sam but would never act on it as Sam always has plenty of girls hanging on him. Then an accident where Sam’s electrical powers cause an incident, the two find something else to bond over. But first there is a witness who wants them to pay for being who they are.
This is the first book in the Superpowered Love Series. It is a compelling story making it easy to fall in love with Sam and Hansen. They seem to be perfectly matched but, first, Sam must adjust to being bisexual and that hostile witness to the accident is causing them more than a few issues. Together they learn how to conquer all. The world in Superpowered Love is very well done and the next books should be just as compelling.
I read the first 3 books in this series.
Even though I loved the covers, I liked the premise and the writing there was something missing.
After the second book, I realized that there is “love” in this series but the “superpowered” part of the title is just not there as much as I expected.
The couples in the books are more like normal people falling in love. Some of them have superpowers but they need to be careful and hide because they are being hunted. There is not much action apart from sexy action…
With that said, this doesn’t mean that I won’t read the rest of the series. It is a fast, fun read.
P.s. I cannot find the series with the comic cover anywhere… (frustrated much?)
Thank you to @gayromancereviews for the ARCs!
I love paranormals and urban fantasy so I was so excited to read Superpowered Love. I really liked the premise of the story and the characters lovable albeit not that deep. However I felt the narrative arc didn’t really interest me. It was a bit boring..
This is the first book I read from this author. It is told from Hanson’s point of view. He meets Sam in school after Sam shorted out the toaster due to his power. Fast forward a couple of years and they are now roommates. Hanson has been in love with Sam from the very beginning of their friendship. This is a slow burn romance with bisexual awakening. I enjoyed this little novella and looking forward to reading the second book.
I received a copy of this book for my review
I have a special place in my heart for stories about people with superpowers, and I have read almost every book on the topic that fell in my hands, so this series was a must read for me. This book 1 caught me immediately, its premise and plot are entertaining and interesting, and the superpowered backstory is one of the best I have read. I enjoyed a lot the romance, all the friends-to-lovers-bi-awakening love story is sweet and perfect especially when happened in the middle of the action, danger and intrigue of the backstory. The agile narration made everything better and I really got trapped in all the situations, amazing dialogues and hot scenes and I couldn’t stop until the very end. The best part? It is a series! I can’t wait to read book 2!
Deals with people with super powers, but majority of story is devoted to romantic relationship between the two main characters. It was a quick read and fairly effortless, but because it was short, things were hurried along and characters were a bit superficial? I’d like to see a bit more world building too…and none of the sudden wait, must create a difficulty for finale. But it was easy read and I’m going to give the next ones try…
Honest review after receiving an ARC copy.
The Superpowered Love series takes place in a world where there are “sleepers” (normal folks) and “awakened” – people with special powers, either thermal or electrical. The awakened are only known to themselves and fear persecution if found out by everyone else, but they live normal lives among the rest of the world. The books in this series can 100% be read as a standalone.
Sam and Hansen have been best friends since meeting in college when Hansen took Sam under his wing as Sam’s powers were manifesting and getting out of control.
Post-college, Sam and Hansen live together. Hansen is gay, but isn’t out to Sam for reasons that aren’t ever explained. Hansen assumes Sam is straight – until he’s very clearly not. The two men give into their attraction as Sam experiences another surge in his power, bringing some scary attention to themselves.
This book is a great, quick read! Sam and Hansen have a lot of chemistry and their relationship (both romantic and platonic) feels very organic. I wish we had more back story about the awakened and why Sam is keeping his sexuality a secret but as long as you don’t think too hard about the book, you’ll enjoy it! Solid 3.5 star book!
