Who hasn’t envied the woman who “has it all”?
Erica, overweight and struggling for purpose, finds herself obsessed with watching the movements of her beautiful, lithe, model neighbor, Faye. Faye’s life looks idyllic and Erica begins to try and fold herself into it but Faye has secrets and problems that no one can guess and those who dance close to the fire may get burned…
This book grew on me and grew on me until I had to see what the inevitable crashing together of the four main characters was going to look like. It wasn’t what I expected and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
Wonderful book, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
This book was sort of an average read to me. There is a plot twist that creates a different ending than you might predict from the first chapters, but it’s not all that thrilling. It’s okay for a fill in while you look for your next great read.
A very enjoyable read. I’d highly recommend this book.
The characters had potential but became predictable and the story just wandered away.
Compulsive reading.
Full of tension.
Classic Amanda Robson. Emotions and obsessions flying at full tilt. Fast, twisty and at times a bit nasty. Potent stuff.
An interesting book, not my usual kind of read. Having envy in your heart can cause you to do many things you wouldn’t think of doing. A lot of sex in this book which was necessary due to the story. I’m sure there are many people who would devour this book but it was a struggle for me but at the end I was pleased I read it.
This is a psychological thriller from author A. Robson, her third book. I have read the first two and enjoyed them. However, I have mixed feelings about this one.
There are four main characters in this interesting saga of stalker and obsessive behaviour. Faye is happily married to Phillip and they have two young daughters. In her mid-thirties, she is one of those yummy mummies you see outside the school gates and the envy of most women her age. She also attracted the attention of a woman who is the opposite of her in looks, Erica.
Erica is single, no family and not much of a career to speak of. She sees Faye outside her window when Faye goes past her house during school runs. She wanted to be Faye and envy pulls her into a downward spiral.
Jonah has been best friends with Phillip since university and is now a successful architect, he was always attracted to Faye but she chose Phillip over him many years ago.
Written in different points of view, each chapter is supposedly narrated by one of the main characters but this was not the case at all and I found it very confusing. Luckily I have a paperback copy and it was fine so the ebook version I received must have had formatting issues in which I hope the publisher of this book have addressed.
I must say that the four main players in this story are totally unlikeable. It reminds me of the author’s debut novel, Obsession which I loved. However, in this book I find Faye to be the least sympathetic character of all. Phillip is a pathetic husband who later develops trust issues, Jonah the best friend of the couple is as wretched as well and Erica who was the antagonist actually redeems herself in the last quarter of this intriguing tale of fixation and mental illness. To sum it up, the plot is okay with an ironic twist towards the finale, when the antagonist becomes the protagonist.
Erica is so envious of Faye that she wants to be her and that envy drives her to a crime; Faye’s life is not perfect either. She has a wonderful husband, beautiful daughters yet it is not enough. Many admire Faye but where does the real danger lie? Good domestic suspense thriller from many perspectives of Envy and how fate twists and turns.
