From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken comes a new story in her Eagle Elite series… Every family has rules, the mafia just has more….Do not speak to the bosses unless spoken to. Do not make eye contact unless you want to die. And above all else, do not fall in love. Renee Cassani’s future is set.Her betrothal is set. Her life, after nannying for the five families … after nannying for the five families for the summer, is set
Somebody should have told Vic Colezan that.
He’s a man who doesn’t take no for an answer.
And he only wants one thing.
Her.
Somebody should have told Renee that her bodyguard needed as much discipline as the kids she was nannying.
Good thing Vic has a firm hand.
Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.

ENVY by Rachel Van Dyken is book 9.5 Eagle Elite; and 83 1001 Dark Nights. This is the story of Renee Cassani and Vic Colezan. I thought this to be a standalone book.
Renee is born in the mafia but doesn’t want to be a part of it but really has no choice. Vic is a bodyguard for the family but he also wants Renee. But Renee has been designated to marry someone else although not know at first. Their love wasn’t supposed to be but that didn’t stop it from happening.
Quick exciting story…loved it!
The Eagle Elite…how do I love thee! Let me count the ways…
This series is my unicorn. It is the happy place, the warm fuzziness I need with guns, gore, and mafia. Clearly my unicorns fight more than graze. Lol. These “unicorns” run the world. They aren’t rainbow following happily lazing unicorns. No, they are the guns blazing, knife throwing, and drugging kind. My unicorns fight for love, fight for the right thing, and will do anything for family. So…
Let me count the ways…
Nixon
Chase
Tex
Phoenix (though it took a bit)
Sergio (still cry whenever I think of his journey)
Dante
Ax (must not forget him)
and now Vic.
Rachel find some way to make you feel all the feels (All the feels!!!!) In every single one of these books. Even in this novella! I’m not ashamed to say I cried. I own it because when family hurts, you hurt.
Do yourself a favor, join the family. They will always be there to pick you up! And for those of you already in “the family” what are you waiting for? Vic has something to say.

I’ve read a few of the Eagle Elite books over time. I have to say, I was a little confused by who was paired up with whom. BUT, that just means I have to go back and READ them ALL.
Envy was GREAT. The characters are super, the emotions are fabulous, and the descriptions are out of this world. When you can feel what the characters feel you know you are reading a good book! Cannot wait for book 10!!
I am a fan of these 1001 short stories – it gives us a glimpse into where some favourite characters are now, or gives us a story of characters that were only minor players in other books.
If you have read Rachel Van Dyken’s Eagle Elite series (and if you haven’t, you should!) you have met our main man Vic.
We know what Vic is capable of from previous stories, however we don’t know Vic. He plays by the rules, no matter what it costs him.
Renee is sweet and adorable, however we soon come to learn who and what she is and how strong she can be.
My heart hurts for Vic as he sets about doing his “duty”. I love the guys of Eagle Elite, but boy I really do kind of hate them in this at the same time. Expecially that Dick-son – oops, I meen Nixon.
I love the Vic and Renee go for what they want. And oh my do they steam up my kindle!
I love getting to see a little of all the family and the “families” in Envy. I have been invested in their lives for a lot of years now, and I always want to know more. And my Chase plays quite an important part in Envy woohoo!
This was a great little read, just enough to tide me over until we get more full length EE.
I can’t wait to see what Ms Van Dyken brings me next.
I love all the guys from these books, but Chase was and always will be my favorite guy. Vic though, man he has shot up to the top of the list, second only to Chase. I loved him so much. The way he struggled with staying true to oath and wanting something in this life for himself pulled on my heartstrings so hard.
“I sold everything. Including my soul to the families. And now, now, I hated that a part of me..wanted it back. Because of a girl who let me hold her when she was scared. And who let me kiss her tears away.”
If you haven’t read this series this is a great book to give it a try, see if you like it. There is already 9 books and that’s a big commitment to catch up on. Give this one a try, then you’ll see why this one gave me all the feels. It would of course mean more if you already read the series because the amount of my Chase in this book made my heart smile.
“I was watching you,” came a familiar voice. “And I realized once again that if all I was allowed in this life-was was the honor of watching you, I would take it.”
I read a lot of mafia romance books because they usually are a bit darker and I like that. I have always had a thing for the mafia, whether it’s documentaries, books, movies, etc. It’s just always fascinated me. Some of those books do an ok job, some are good, and then some just excel at it. That’s true with anything though. Rachel does an exceptional job with writing this stuff. The series just keeps getting better with every book. That’s not always the case when a series goes on this long. She just has a way that keeps it fresh, interesting, and intense. She will draw a full range of emotions from you all while entertaining you along the way. I can’t wait for more from this series.
