I love the unusual characters and situation that Grace Callaway creates in this book. It was a real page-turner that I can’t recommend highly enough!
Maggie and Rhys had great chemistry and the treasure hunt was fun and inventive. Great book that has all we’ve come to expect from a Grace Callaway novel: cockstands, sex in a carriage, and a kidnapping! Can’t wait for the next one!
Ms. Callaway has done it again. She takes a fairly unlikeable character from the first book in this series and turns him into a hero. The most unlikely heroes are ones that we never see coming. Rhys (Ransom) is not a villain but a good person who loves his mother and his uncle and Maggie and who wants to do the right thing. Throw in a mystery, questionable moneylenders and a treasure hunt! I am totally at this party. Seeing Rhys’ journey to redemption will put a smile on your face and some tears in your eyes. Maggie and Rhys are so right for each other. I also love seeing strong, independent women in stories and Maggie and her sister-in-law are fantastic people that characterize these qualities. Oh, and Glory is too precious – she is not overbearing or a mild divergence in the story but an integral part of the story. If you love second chances with a lot of hope and redemption, then read this book. You will not be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy from the author.
This was a lovely read with a compelling hero in Rhys and a wonderful heroine in Maggie.
A highly charged story with great characters that will take you through on an adventure and back again. Having a past history, Maggie and Ransom have a child he knows nothing about. But when fate brings them back together, he for her help in finding a treasure, the old feelings surface. The writing brings the characters to life and I felt emotionally tied to them as their story unfolded. Rhys had been a character in a previous story and from what I can gather seemed not the best of heroes. But here, he seemed to redeem some of his prior actions and he and Maggie sizzled in their relationship. Intrigue, suspense, a mystery and a host of locations and characters, kept me on the edge waiting to find out what happened as I turned the pages. Now I am anxious to read the next in the series and hope we don’t have to wait too long! Well done.
Enter the Duke is the second book in the Game of Duke’s series. I absolutely could not put this story down. Grace Callaway is a very gifted storyteller who makes everything just come alive. The writing is brilliant and I was able to emotionally connect with the characters and their story. There is a wide array of interesting characters and none of them are perfect. They all have their flaws and inner demons and it makes everything much more enjoyable and realistic. Ransom and Maggie were perfect for each other and the sparks fly throughout the entire book! It gets really steamy at times. I usually hate secret baby tropes, but this one was perfectly executed and I loved it! At the end of it, I still respected the characters, which never happens for me with this trope! I found myself very intrigued by Maggie’s brother Jeremy too! Anyways, this is a fun, fast paced story guaranteed to keep the reader interested. I highly recommend this book! Page turner through and through!
Fantastic! Hard to resist a fast-moving, well written love story adventure that includes fossil finding, treasure hunting, cutthroat money lenders, not one but two clever ferrets, and two characters so lost and yet determined to find their way together. This is a book I’m going to reread several times.
CW: brief mentions of animal abuse committed by the bad guys
Rhys Cavendish, Duke of Raneleigh and Somerville, is hiding from two cut throats after him for money he owes. Totally without funds and no way of paying them, he has one more asset to pay them off, the treasure left by his uncle worth several million dollars. The treasure is hidden with only clues to find it left by his uncle. At his uncle’s home he finds his first clue. Seeking help from a fossil hunter, he’s reunited with the woman he had a brief encounter nine years ago. On a deadline to find the treasure, he offers Maggie money for her help. As they get closer to the treasure they discover the passion they had before and Rhys discovers another treasure he never knew he had. Interesting clues to the treasure and on the edge encounters where the only solution may be his death. Steamy explicit sex.
Enjoyed this exciting story. It is unusual and suspenseful.
too much sex
True love wins in the end
One can never go wrong with a Grace Callaway book. Great story with plenty of twists and real-life characters!!
Grace Callaway is one of my favorite authors and “Enter the Duke” (nook) does not disappoint. Her characters are amazing and they mature as they overcome difficulties – both emotional and real.
In spite of the eroticism, I would recommend this book.
sweet
This second book in the series is absolutely wonderful! I would give it 5 STARS PLUS!! Rhys Jones (Duke of Ranelagh and Somerville) is introduced in the first book – and not favorably. The book opens about 9 years in the past when Rhys is visiting his uncle, Horatio. He meets Maggie, a bar maid in the local tavern. Immediate attraction on both sides, his definitely physical, and hers a kindness she has never known from her disreputable family which is how all view her instead of an individual. From that one night, Gloriana is the result. Now in the present time, Rhys is again visiting his uncle’s estate – as he is the heir – but also he is running from the two moneylenders he cannot repay. His uncle’s bequest is actually a treasure hunt Horatio devised not only to benefit his nephew financially but to help to heal the scars Rhys experienced at the hand of his cold and cruel father. He accidentally meets Mrs. Margaret Foley, a widow who owns a fossil shop to support herself and her daughter. No longer an innocent trusting girl, Maggie is determined not to fall for the charms of the handsome Rhys. She learns of the business arrangement he proposes with Maggie to help him unravel the clues left by his uncle. With each clue, they each learn of the complicated issues which make these two individuals unique and in need of healing each other. I loved the character of Maggie, dedicated mother, faithful to her useless family and hard worker. I can identify with her as a single mom and love the strength to do whatever she must and not collapse in misery and wallow in self-pity. Rhys endured an awful childhood, deprived of the love of his mother by a cruel and abusive father. He was bullied and tormented in school because of his mixed blood (his mother was Chinese). His care-free attitude is his shield and he lives up to his reputation of a rake to keep all away including love – so he cannot fail and be hurt. The exciting treasure hunt, the pursuit of the moneylenders, help of Tessa and Harry Kent (from first book), disclosure of the true father of Gloriana, the addition of another adorable ferret and the slow unraveling of the deep emotional scars Rhys finally must come to face all blend into a beautiful, exciting, romantic and true love story that touches your heart and soul! Thank you, Ms. Callaway, for a terrific love story with the best Happily-Ever-After!
