When love collides with vengeance, only the strong will survive…
Scotland’s throne has been stolen by a Pretender King who means to crush all those who oppose him. Four Highlanders refuse to yield. Hell-bent on revenge, they vow to destroy the Pretender and restore Scotland to its rightful King.
Laird Domnall MacAyre is out for blood. He bears a personal vendetta against the murderous traitor … murderous traitor who helped the Pretender ascend. But when he tracks the traitor to a remote island keep, he finds the man’s sister in his stead. The lass makes Domnall’s retribution all the sweeter—in kidnapping her, he can twist the knife even deeper into his enemy’s heart. Yet as a passionate bond grows between them, it is Domnall’s heart in danger of ruination.
Lady Ailsa Murray barely knows her brother, yet he is her only remaining family, and the bonds of blood are not easily broken. So when she is taken by a Highlander dead-set on revenge, she makes a silent pledge to do anything it takes to thwart him. But when it comes to her captor, enemies and lovers are but two edges of the same blade. Will she have the courage to stand against Domnall, or will her heart succumb before she can alter the course of both their fates?

So glad to have Emma Prince back in the genre! She comes back with a page-turner that starts out with a bang!
Emma prince is a wonderful storyteller and never fails to entertain. This is a well written and well executed tale in the series “Four Horsemen of the Highlands”. The four horsemen, Domnall, Gregor, Tavish and Artair band together to restore Scotland’s throne to the rightful King and lay vengeance on those who stole it and killed their people! This is the story of Domnall and Lady Ailsa.
I was captivated from beginning to end by Emma’s attention to research and details and the way she beautifully weaves a wonderful romance within the story. This action packed, fast-paced romance is guaranteed to entertain!
The Four Horsemen of the Highlands. Domnall, Gregor, Tavish and Artair. Formed by survival and the bonds of a unified cause. Return Scotland’s throne to the rightful King and vengeance on those who stole it and killed their people!
Yowza!! Think of those lines in a booming Scottish voice, because from the beginning I was carried away as these four warriors made a heart pounding escape from hanging and could truly see it in my mind!! They had to split up and this is about Laid Domnall MacAyre, oh aye, a braw warrior indeed!
His focus was on Murray, a traitor and he finally ran him down at the man’s keep. But when he is ready to slit his throat, he finds instead the man’s sister, Lady Alisa. Oh yes she would do perfectly well so he took he in order to make Murray meet him.
Then the real adventure begins! “She was far too bonny. Dangerously bonny. Bloody hell. Aye, she was dangerous- a dangerous distraction from what needed doing. Still she was his greatest weapon against Murray.” She would draw him to Domnall.
Emma Prince is at her best with her phenomenal pen that weaves historical fact with remarkable fiction to bring the start to this new series. Am I excited? Aye pure barry lassies!
When love collides with vengeance, only the strong will survive…
WOW doesn’t even begin to cover this 10 star worthy story by the fabulous Emma Prince! Our hero is bent on exacting revenge on the traitor to the rightful King of Scotland when he happens upon the perfect foil in the form of the traitor’s sister. But things aren’t what they seem and what ensues is a delightful journey to what could be a happily ever after.
I adore our hero and heroine and LOVE the quiet, unassuming way one weasels into the other’s heart. You’ll have to read the book to figure out who conquers who. Now, Ms. Prince, when can we get book 2?
Laird Domnall MacAyre is a wanted man with one thing on his mind, revenge. The traitor who cost many lives must pay with his.
Lady Ailsa Murray gets a rude awakening to who her brother really is. Can she stop the man who only has vengeance on his mind from killing him.
This is an action packed story that has a lightning fast start and keeps going that way. There is a lot of adventure along the way. The characters are great. I especially loved the incredible horse. He is as much the hero as the Laird.
This is the first in the series although each book can be read on it’s own I will definitely be reading all of them.
I loved every page.

During the second war of independence, this pretend monarch wants to make an example to any who does not support him. So he slaughters Scottish warriors in their sleep and a big traitor, Andrew Murray is the reason why and how! A man who betrays his own countrymen for coin!
After the devestating Battle of Dupplin in Pershire, Balliol crowns himself King of Scotland. The four Highland leaders were taken as prisoners to make an example of. They were Laird MacAyre, MacLeod, MacKinnon and MacNeal, who were all taken to a cold dark cell with very little substance to survive on. They were all sentenced to hang-except during their hanging, a miracle from God happened to save them. Domnall MacAyre was the first and his hanging had already begun, but the other three Highlander’s saved him. On this day they became brothers even though not by blood. The also made oaths of revenge and vengeance for all who were traitors to them and their country.
One was Andrew Muarray, who betrayed his own countrymen for coin to pay off his gambling debts. He secretly opened the camp fori Balliol’s men while everyone was sleeping to be slaughtered. He even tortured Bhaltair, Domnall MacAyre’s loyal warhorse. His horse would of alarmed the camp, but Andrew stabbed the beloved horse in the neck giving this beloved animal a slow death. Domnall was heartbroken but finished the job to put his horse out of his misery. Now he possessed Andrew’s knife which Domnall planned to kill him with!
By the time he reached one of Murray’s residents, he cat08ches what he thought was Andrew Murray asleep. Except he soon realizes he is pressing his knife to a beautiful lassies throat! As it was the beautiful face and exquisite form of Ailsa Murray. The sister of his enemy! Now he had to revise his plan and take Ailsa as a hostage. The problem is Ailsa is the exact opposite of her brother. She had been in prison herself forced by her brother, a sibling she barely knew after her parents death. Shortly , after their death he arranges a marriage to an unkind man three times her age. Ailsa’s parents had been kind but kept her sheltered from the ugliness of the world but she knew her duty. Yet she knew her father would have picked a kind, honorable man, in her age bracket that she could one day learn to love. Her brother only cared to pay off his gambling debts, selling her off like a farm animal. Yet she also still did not want her only family left to die.
At first she tries to escape but after spraining her ankle and he gently cares for it, seeing Domnall help a homeless urchin, and protecting her from ruthless characters again and again. As she starts picking the chinks from Domnall’s armor and see’s the truth in both her brutal abusive brother and this honorable Laird, her abductor. She doesn’t want Domnall to mark his soul and regret something he won’t be able to live with or take back. Plus soon feelings of the heart start pumping through both their veins that they both try to deny and hide from. Yet you can’t dismiss or hide from love. What road will Domnall take? He has so much guilt the more he feels for Ailsa. He knows by murdering and killing her only family member might destroy any future of happiness for them! Yet can he betray his highland brothers from the prison oath they all made to get revenge and vengeance to all the traitors that caused so much death and carnage to their people and Scotland. What road will he follow the one of vengeance and revenge or the one of honor and love?
A beautifully written novel from cover to cover. Plus it takes the reader from what is right and what is wrong. From darkness to light. Should she choose an evil brother just because they have the same parents? Plus can an angelic naive sister open her eyes to her brothers dark misdeeds and evil treachery that caused the deaths of so many? Can she trust a stranger that she sees as a truly good soul who is only trying to do what he feels is right? Yet she knows this honorable Laird will damage himself in the long run, that will eventually break his spirit and darken his soul and change his light forever.
This is the first book in the Four Horsemen of the Highlands series by Emma Price. It is a book readers don’t want to miss. It is an action packed, fast-paced, page-turning, romantic adventure that historical romance readers love. Yet it is weaved with true history and a fictional dramatic heart-pulling story and passionate romance. The setting is breathtakingly, filled with multi dimensional characters, captivating dialogue, with clever plotting, that absolutely blew me away! It was totally brilliant, as I was gasping for air never knowing what would happen next!
I highly recommend Ensnared by the Laird by Emma Prince.

Emma Prince once again has written a book that you cannot put down and will stay up late at night to finish reading it!! I absolutely loved Domnall and Ailsa’s story, it’s so full of adventure, action, heartbreak, danger and passion, everything I love in a historical romance:)
Domnall, one of the Four Horsemen of the Highlands, has agreed to help usurp the Pretender King and he also has a personal vengeance against a traitor in their army, one who helped kill most of their men and who also killed his beloved horse. Tracking the traitor, the last thing he expects to find is the traitor’s sister, Ailsa! He decides to take her captive to oust her brother but she certainly does not make it easy for him!!!
Ailsa is a sheltered lady but she has spirit and puts up a good fight! Eventually, she learns what her brother is really like and with her heart getting involved with Domnall, she tries to make him understand that if he pursues his vengeance, he will lose his soul. Vengeance vs love is a big part of this story and your heart will beat that much faster as you keep reading.
As a side note, I must say I loved Fern! lol I also love it when an author takes true historical facts and adds her own imagination to it!!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
