What happens when a hook up leaves you hooked?Ripped muscles. Sharp suit. Sharper wit. These weren’t usually enough to make me bite, but Jackson Callaghan was a treat I wanted to taste. Return visits, however, couldn’t be something on my agenda. I needed my sole focus to be on my marketing company. I didn’t want just a hook up to turn into an addiction. The woman in my gym was better than coffee … better than coffee for waking me up. Gorgeous, driven, ambitious – she was exactly what I didn’t need. But I was hooked from the moment I saw her doing pull ups, and it didn’t take long until I had stopped trying to get away. The problem was, Vanessa Moore didn’t want to be hooked by me.
Two workaholics, two people with their own dreams. One desire. But will being hooked be enough to reel them in?

I really enjoyed this book, a start to a new series and written by a new author – to me – Annie Dyer. This is the sort of romance book I loved to read when I was younger and it was so nice to reminded that true love can exist with anger and angst. Jackson and Vanessa don’t seem to have a lot in common in the beginning, she in marketing and he is an attorney. But when their attractions draws them together, they are made for each other.
A great book for a start to a new series by one of my new favorite authors.
Jackson lives and breathes his job but all that changes when he sees Vanessa working out at the work gym. Vanessa has been brought in to plan Jackson’s Dad retirement party as well as help with some re branding when his Dad steps down and from there sparks fly, Jackson can only think of Van and as much as she tries to keep him at arms reach while she does the work for the company it is a loosing battle. I absolutely love Jackson’s family as well as they way neither Jackson nor Van really know how to deal with a proper relationship as he has never really had one and Vans previous one which is still a bit messy was more one of convenience although she didn’t realise it at the time. There is plenty of highs and lows along with tense times and times where you might want to grab a tissue as we see Jackson and Vans relationship grow and potentiality disintegrate. I am officially hooked!!
This is the first book I have read By Annie. I love this series already.
The relationship with all the family members is phenomenal. The kids all bicker and tease each other and you can feel that they love each other and that families are important.
This book is the first in a series of books. This one follows Jackson of the Callaghan Family.
Vanessa was hired to rebrand the family company and plan a retirement party for the head of Callaghan Green.
Sparks fly from the moment their eyes meet, however, both Jackson and Vanessa are workaholics, trying to prove themselves worthy of what they have–Jackson is now head of Callaghan Green and Vanessa runs her marketing company.
I loved every character that is written on these pages. Vanessas Gran is awesome (I hope she makes some more appearances).
As with any book and relationship there are twists, turns, bumps and of course amazing chemistry. There is also an Ex and a crazy employee.
This book is written so well that you feel as if these were real people you would know them the moment you met them.
Several places in this book I marked lines that jumped out at me–if I can highlight lines it is a good book.
I highly recommend this book–I know there are 2 more, both of which I have and will be reading soon.
This is my first book by Annie and it sure won’t be my last! I absolutely fell in love with the Callaghan family. Love books with such awesome family dynamics. On top of that the relationship with Jackson and Vanessa is sexy as all get out! He’s a walking wet dream! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series with more family shenanigans!
I thought this touched base on how people are now. Always trying to prove themselves and forgetting there is more in life then money. This story I think makes us thing how we have to sometimes put more effort into not only getting a place in this world but being able to share that with someone you love in your life. Sometimes you blink and it can all be gone. Whats the great saying..You need to take the time and stop and smell the roses….Very true statement.
Well Jackson has always been a hard worker and when he met Vanessa he was ready to work with her, but more personal then business. Vanessa isn’t rich but being in a relationship for 6 years with someone that she hadn’t truly loved or cared for at the end is hard to let your trust go to another one. Jackson wants to get to know her but he doesn’t really see that she’s his one. The one that calms him and hears him and can make things better and not just work all the time. His family is a handful and can be intimidating but nothing throws her until a simple misunderstanding makes her think that things are to fast and going like they did with her ex and it scares her into thinking this isn’t what she wants or who she is. Does she see her error or will Jackson just walk away? Got to read this book to find out.
Vanessa has worked hard to get her marketing firm one of the best in London. Working under contract for the law firm Callaghan Green, she meets Jackson Callaghan in the office gym. Attraction sparks for both parties and it feels so comfortable and easy. Their lives mesh effortlessly which is exactly what makes her so nervous. Unfortunately, Vanessa has baggage and if she can’t let go, will it sabotage this love affair before it really gets off the ground?
I went into Engagement Rate expecting a light, easy romance; a great way to while away an afternoon. What I got was a lovely tale of two people that finally find their one, the person that they were meant to be with. I also got a fabulous insight into what it is like to live in London, which is on my bucket list to visit. The laughter and banter between Vanessa and her friends and co-workers, Jackson’s family and with Jackson himself was in a word enchanting. You fall in love with these characters, not just the main ones, all of them. I want to join the Callaghan clan, there would never be a dull moment! This book had a depth of feeling that is exactly why I read romance. You become close to Vanessa and Jackson and you want that happy ending for them. Kudos to Ms Dyer, 5 stars for Engagement Rate. I can’t wait to see how things play out between Jackson’s sister Claire and family friend Killian in White Knight!
Annie Dyer is a new to me author, but I am impressed with this debut book!! This is the start of a solid series. Jackson and Vanessa are interesting, well written characters. The book was well paced, storyline compelling, and really well written secondary characters, family & friends, bound to have books of their own books soon…??!!??? I can’t wait to read more about the Callaghans and the team at Callaghan Green.
I’m a bit behind in the Callaghan awesomeness that is this family. I absolutely loved this first book in the series, yes the romance is fantastic but its all about the family. I love books with a ton of close knit family members who meddle and help each other out in the romance category and boy did this family crack me up! Can I have this families Gran please? Hilarious!
Anywho Dyers writing is top notch, its fun, witty, romantic, steamy and really character driven. I rooted for Jackson and Vanessa to find a HEA. Jackson because he may be a sexy workaholic, with a smidge alpha but he was all about her, and boy did this man fall. Vanessa I wanted her to find happiness after the awful man she had been with hurt her, this guy is a massive jerk and totally loved her with Jackson.
Vanessa is a tough marketing guru and she knows her craft well, she has to deal with her awful ex whom she owns the company with and a lying staff member at Jacksons family firm. She and Jackson have their ups and downs but the sexy moments and banter just kept me begging for more. I cant wait to read the next book and get sucked back into this family fun.
Loved it! Annie Dyer has this book start the Callaghan Green series. Vanessa and Jackson have a work place romance with great chemistry. Don’t miss this read.
This is a great read. I really enjoyed Vanessa and Jackson’s story. The instalove works really well in this story as does the level of hotness.
One of my favorite parts of this book was the the ribbing between all the siblings. It brings another level to the romance between the two characters as they put up with the antics of the Callaghan/Green clan.
I’m excited to read more from this author!
I really enjoyed this book. Jackson is blatantly a man who is used to getting what he wants, but he’s not overbearing with it. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy an over-the-top alpha male as much as the next girl, but this book gave me the powerful hero without stomping all over the heroine. Jackson was, undoubtedly, adorable. He was so sweet at times and then at others he was hot and dirty. As for our heroine… Vanessa was a great character. She had a lot of spirit and I liked that she was strong and independent. She didn’t let Jackson walk all over her either.
Added to all this was a great ensemble cast. I loved the Callaghan Greene’s! They were all fun and different enough they felt like real people. I’m looking forward to hearing more from them! I especially loved Marie! It made a change to move away from the ‘evil stepmother’ template, because Marie really does adore her family. Gran was hilarious, and of course Sophie definitely deserves a mention.
All in all, a solid first novel from the author that definitely kept me turning the pages to see what came next!
This was the first book I read of Annie Dyer she didn’t disappoint me. It was so good, that I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. I love that main characters made it and they are going to make a life together. I hope to see more stories of the other characters in the future.
This book didn’t exactly grab me from the start, and the multitude of grammatical errors in the first few chapters alone made it difficult to stay interested. Once I got past the editing issues, though, this was an enjoyable enough story. The best part of the book had to be the supporting characters, as they kept the plot moving. Claire and Gran, especially, made me laugh several times because they were unpredictable and hilarious.
Overall, Jackson’s and Vanessa’s story was interesting enough to make me possibly read the next book or two in this series. I just hope that the next ones have more attentive editing completed before they’re published.
Great read from this new to me author. This sweet tale about a guy who is just a guy but too busy to be anything but sexy, moody, and all alpha male with a family that will have you in stitches. She is just getting out of a relationship which has damaged her self esteem and not ready for Mr talk, dark, and broody (but never with her). This author gives us a steamy tale about two who weren’t until they were and all the dynamics of crazy out of control power mongols who love and support each other with a raze of crap only family can. It’s a great story where you will most definitely laugh out loud and enjoy all of the banters and action.
I haven’t read this author before but I do like her style and look forward to more. I will have to make sure my fan is available if the rest of the clan goes at it as hard as these two did but I have to say it didn’t take away from the story.
