In this story, my favourite Florida lawyer investigates the death of her neighbour’s sister and brother-in-law, tackles a high profile divorce case and struggles with personal relationship changes. There’s lots of action, lots of intrigue and the usual laughs as Jamie deals with love, life and litigation with her usual humor.
Venkataraman always produces an entertaining “who-dun-it” and this one did not disappoint.
Although the story is self-contained and it would be possible to sort out who’s who, there are enough continuing characters and story lines to make it advisable to read it in sequence, but these are such great stories that that won’t be a hardship.
Jamie Quinn is at it again, trouble seems to follow her around. A woman comes in wanting to get a divorce (should be easy, right), not this one, she is married to a very powerful man an no attorney’s want to take her case. Jamie is also looking into a plane crash that killed her neighbor’s twin sister. Lastly, Jamie’s boyfriend Kip is in Australia for 3 months. Things move fast in this book and you won’t want to put it down. There are surprises up to the last page. A must read.
To avoid spoilers – read books in order.
I am seriously enjoying binge reading this series! This series is best read in order so as not to reveal spoilers from earlier books. It still reads great as a stand-alone story.
A little background on the cast of characters… Jamie Quinn is a family law attorney in a small (one person) practice. She attended law school with her BFF, Grace Anderson, who is a lawyer in a prestigious securities law firm and has awesome connections. Duke Broussard is a playboy and P.I. who, besides being a client and friend, Jamie keeps on retainer for his creative investigative skills. Nick Dimitropoulos, State Attorney, appears to always be at odds with Jamie. Kip Simons, Jamie’s current and also first high school boyfriend, an outdoorsman and adventurer. Guillermo Franco, a Cuban activist, also brought into the storyline from Jamie’s past. Ana Maria Suarez, a surrogate mother, always ready with an encouraging word or a hug if Jamie needed one.
Jamie discovers even more about her lineage from several sources. This is a great continuing and intriguing storyline that runs between the books of the series. No spoilers here. This storyline alone is worth reading the series.
Romance fills the air, but not everyone is breathing healthy air if you know what I mean.
Is family law considered a high-risk profession? I would not have thought so prior to reading this story. Over two-dozen family law practices have turned down her client’s case. Taking this case could mean death to a legal career. Jamie convinces her BFF, Grace, to act as co-counsel in this high-profile divorce case to help a woman who wants only to cut all the strings binding her to her husband. She has lived under his thumb for decades. The problem, her powerful husband insists it will not happen. Will he go as far as to kill to keep his marriage, and secrets, intact? Will Jamie and Grace become collateral damage in this case?
Barbara Venkataraman is a gifted storyteller in my favorite genre of cozy mysteries. You will discover a fabulous cast of characters and more than one mystery to be solved in this story. It is not your typical whodunit. Romance, along with drama from friends and family alike are added to enrich the story. If you enjoy an entertaining, well-written, fun, and easy read; this book is for you.
I just love the Jaime Quinn series. The stories are well-written and I can’t say enough good about the characters, mostly of Jaime and Duke. Jaime is a spirited woman, intelligent and knows her stuff. Duke is funny and a bright light and a good friend to Jaime. I highly recommend this series.
Jamie Quinn was just told by her boyfriend, Kip Simons, that he is going to Australia for three months for work to help Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombats. While Kip is overjoyed at the prospect, Jamie is not at all thrilled. She won’t be able to go visit him, due to the fact that she is sponsoring her father and could be called for an immigration interview that she can’t miss. Then Kip gets called out sooner than expected.
At work, Jamie is greeted by Nan Glasser, who is seeking a divorce. Nan is married to a very powerful lawyer, and every attorney, she has visited has turned her away. Jamie feels that her friend Grace can be more helpful. Little does Jamie know, that her recommendation of her friend will take a turn, when Grace gets an idea that both, Jamie and she should represent Nan Glasser. Jamie is reluctant, until the more bits and pieces she learns about Marvin Glasser, she throws caution to the winds and joins forces with Grace.
Grace is dating someone, and Jamie lets an insult slip not realizing that the one Grace is dating is the guy, Jamie doesn’t think highly of. This creates a huge rift in the relationship. Not only is Kip gone, but how is Jamie supposed to work with her best friend on Nan Glasser’s divorce, if they aren’t even speaking to one another.
Marvin Glasser puts in an appearance to Jamie’s office, and Jamie feels quite proud of the way she handled Marvin, until she gets a message from Grace, that Jamie just may lose her law license!
If Jamie didn’t have bad luck, she’d have no luck at all! A lot is going on in Jamie’s life with this fourth book in the series. Enjoyable read!
I received a free copy, in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the 4th book in the Jamie Quinn Mysteries and I find that with each book the characters grow stronger…I really enjoyed Engaged in Danger…
I really like how Jaime takes us to a whole new level of mystery…this story finds her solving 2 different cases but that are closely related…
Jaime always puts a smile on my face when reading her escapades…and this one she finds herself alone while her boyfriend Kip jaunts off to Australia to save the Northern Hairy-Nosed Wombat but when she sees a picture of Kip from Australia there is a beautiful red head with her arm around Kip and the green eyed monster comes out in Jaime…
Jaime takes on a divorce case and come to find out the husband is a big lawyer who a lot of other lawyers are afraid to go against…does Jaime take the case?
You will have to read it to find out…
