OMFG, this was freaking intense!!!! Don’t get me wrong, I loved the story and Jack and Ethan, but, man, it was a roller coaster. Tal Bauer put her men through some tough times and they came worse for wear but still in love and hopeful.
First part of the book was absolutely wonderful. Both Jack and Ethan navigated life as a committed couple inside of White House with all its responsibilities. I liked how no matter what, at the end of the day they were all each other needed. There were plenty sweet and funny moments despite the tensions mounting outside their little happy love bubble. I liked their interactions with agents who by now have become trusted friends.
One thing about the book that was different from previous ones was that here we were presented with 3 different couples. Adam and Faisal, Jack and Ethan, and surprisingly Sasha and Sergey (although in their case it was one sided for now). Every couple got page time, and every couple expressed deep feelings. I enjoyed reading about all three.
The second part of the book has turned me into a crying mess! Oh, the hurt, the angst, the pain in all its possible forms! There was so many emotions pouring from Ethan, there was so much tragedy, I kid you not! I had to step away from the book for a couple of days to cool off. One would say that some parts of this story were a little out there and too unrealistic, but I put that aside and it helped me to really get into the story. Wilder things can happen.
The book went from fast paced to supersonic with all the events happening, men holding each other in times of trouble, so much love and devotion but also betrayal… f*ck, I am scared to start the next one since betrayal is so close to home, I do not want to know who but I NEED to know who!!!! That sounded better in my head. Jack and Ethan, Adam and Faisal, Sergey and Sasha are about to be in a world of hurt and danger, and I will be there for the ride as soon as I collect my wits and courage, because Tal Bauer does not pull any punches with their bodies and hearts. Outstanding!
I dove in and didn’t leave as I can’t get enough of Jack and Ethan.
The love between them is beautiful and true, all the world knows and there is me with a silly grin!
Honestly this series just gets better and I didn’t think it could but I want to shout READ THIS SERIES !
I got caught up in the politics and followed their lives OMG this is amazing I can’t stop reading as I need to get to book three…
Everything in the book is perfect and as the relationship between Jack and Ethan develops the politics escalate.
Awful things happen dreadful people are making plans ….
Can’t put this book down !
Much more than five stars …. Book three here I come
This book, and the whole Executive Office series, has become one of my all time favorites. I won’t lie to you, this will wrench your heart out and sort of put it vaguely back together again before the final sentence. It is so well written with such a complex storyline. I am equal parts dreading and dying to start the third book. I can’t wait to see what else is going to happen to these characters but I also don’t want this extraordinary series to be over.
If you thought Enemy of the State book one in the Executive Office series packed a punch, then you haven’t seen anything yet!! Tal Bauer came in and ripped my heart out with Enemy of My Enemy in a way that I was not prepared for. When I say not prepared, I mean I was a sobbing mess at work because his words were so powerful that I felt them in my soul. Not only with Ethan and Jack but with Adam and Faisal and another unsuspecting couple in the making.
Jack Speir and Ethan Reichenbach are trying to make a real go of their relationship. With any other couple that might seem normal but with Jack being the President of the United States he is under a constant microscope. His life is out there for the people to see and he tried with Ethan to do the long-distance thing, for them to keep their relationship under the radar until his presidency was up but that didn’t work for them. Jack needs Ethan by his side as First Gentleman. Faced with hate, bigotry and all-around nonsense they are trying to navigate this new world they are creating. If they thought this was going to be the worst of their problems, then they are very wrong.
General Madigan has a goal in mind to take down those in power, but Ethan and Jack are scrambling to find out exactly how he is going to do that and find him before it is too late. When Jack enlists help in the form of the leader of Russia the whole world starts to second guess every decision he makes while shaming him for his relationship with the man he loves.
We meet new characters in this book and old favorites are back to help Jack and Ethan figure out how to take down Madman Madigan before it is too late. When an unexpected event leaves Jack and Ethan reeling with what to do next, they are faced with an impossible decision. A decision that could make or break the world as we know it.
The sheer INSANITY of this book was immense. At first, I thought this book was going to be mellow compared to the previous book but then suddenly it is a constant stream of well, everything!! Hearts are broken, friendships are formed and with being on the brink of war Jack and Ethan must put everything aside to make sure that the people are safe.
READ BOOK ONE FIRST!! If you don’t read Enemy of the State first, you will be completely lost by about 15% of this book. You get small reminders through the book but not enough for this story to make sense. This book did end on a cliffhanger, but I am not 100% mad about it more, shocked at the abruptness of it. Until I can read the last book in the trilogy I am going to have Ethan and Jack in the back of my mind wondering just how their story will end.
5 stars. Excellent read. Nobody does conspiracy like Tal Bauer. the plot just thicken, and the couple, this book was a wow!
What a rush! Book two of this series didn’t disappoint. The action just keeps building. I love stories that bring GLBT characters into the mainstream.
If you’re looking for a little light before bed reading, this is not for you.
If you’re looking for a fantastic story arc that drags you by the eyeballs from page one of the first book, Enemies of the State, and won’t let go until the final page of the final book in the series and sticks with you long after, then this series IS for you.
Just be warned, you’re going to be losing sleep because there’s no way you’ll be able to easily put them down! Hope your boss doesn’t mind you being a bit distracted…
Just read.
