Stone Reeves was my neighbor, and I’ve hated him since sixth grade.Gorgeous and charismatic, he became the town’s football god, while I became the town’s invisible girl.He went to a Division 1 school for football, while my father was fired by his father. His team won the National Championship, while my mother died the same day.He was a first round pick for the NFL …… while I made the worst … …
… while I made the worst decision of my life.
Now I’m in Texas trying to pick up the pieces of my life.
But, Stone is here.
Stone is everywhere.
It doesn’t matter that disaster has struck my life again.
It doesn’t matter that he’s the one trying to console me.
It doesn’t matter that he’s the nation’s newest football obsession.
Because for me, he always has been and always will be my enemy.

Ahhhh! What a winning story! This felt like a more grown-up and polished Tijan book, it had all the same charm and flow but the writing and overall development just felt even MORE if that’s even possible. In other words, I loved this one.
It stems from my favorite trope ever, hate-to-love. This is a classic case of misunderstanding turned into resentment covered in a layer of malice and space. These two characters grew up best friends and abruptly drifted apart to create an ocean of hate between them. I found their journey back together to be both realistic and uniquely romantic.
Let’s start with Stone, you don’t even have to meet him before you’ve already fallen. His smolder and anger alone is enough to drive any girl wild, but then he comes barreling into the picture and all bets are off. He’s a new kind of alpha male, assertive and bossy to cover up his obvious caring and sweet nature. He fights hard, loves harder. His passion is perfection, especially when it’s directed at Dusty.
Dusty is a beautifully broken girl, she’s a shell of her former self and pretty much running on empty until a harsh new reality slaps her into motion. Despite her dazed state throughout most of the story, I found her to be incredibly relatable and one of my favorite snarky underdogs to date. She’s fueled with fire, grief, passion and hatred and when she burns up its truly beautiful.
I adored this book. It’s probably one of my favorite Tijan reads to date and I have devoured and enjoyed almost all of her catalogue. I reveled in the story so much that I stayed up until 3am so I could get it read in one sitting, I couldn’t let go. I can’t even pinpoint what makes this one so special or different, it just is. It has that extra something that makes you a little more obsessed, a little more intrigued and invested. I loved the football aspect, I loved the slightly older age and maturity factor and I really loved how the two characters inevitably crashed together. This is a definite must read.
Love me some Tijan. Stone and Dusty are very reminiscent of Mason and Sam fast forwarded to the college years. Stone is dominant, protective, hottie and larger than life. Dusty is broken but healing, independent, struggling but strong. I loved them both individually and as a feisty couple. Lots of angst and just intriguing personalities that suck you in and keep you glued to the pages. I really devoured this story because the characters are like a bag of chips you can’t put down until you’re picking at a bunch of crumbs and licking the salt off your fingers.
Unpredictable. Unputdownable. Unreal. Unforgettable. Enemies by Tijan was nothing like what you expect from a sports romance. The angsty and heartbreak was so deep that I was drowning there but I did not want to come up for air. Tears, goosepumps and my own panic attacks accompanied me through this beautiful and overwhelming love story.
I need to hug Dusty. I want to go inside the pages and hug this girl and dry her tears and soothe her pain. It’s rare for me to idenitify and empathize with a fictional girl so instantly and fiercely. But Tijan did that to me. Dusty’s life is tragedy, loss, grief and troubles. Those never end. The hits never stop coming. She moved away from her old life but she could not escape from the pain. She is lonely, aloof, isolated and just wants to disappear into background. Most of the story is written in her POV so you will get to feel all the nuances and blunt force of her emotions. Stuck in the basement of a football house with never ending parties was not her plan specially because she was avoiding Stone Reeves at all cost. But their lives are going to collide and the impact will be phenomenal.
Stone Reeves is worshipped by every one around as he is the golden guy of local professional football team. He used to be Dusty’s best friend. But a lot of bad blood and bitter family history is between them now. Dusty hates the proverbial rich, arrogant, cocky and popular football jock because he played a part is destroying her life. But this same guys is protecting her, taking care of her wounds, healing her physical and mental pain and doing everything to help her. I am so in love with Stones. He is fire and ice. He stood by Dusty like a wall even when she was pushing him and he had his own doubts and torments inside.
Their chemistry is something special. They have years of pent up anger, guilt and misunderstanding. And when it blows in their face, they try to deal with raw passion and explosive sex. But true emotions creep in and I loved the slow burn so much! My heart broke for them a thousand times. The angst quotient is so freaking high! My heart stopped way too many times. The magic of the story is how Tijan moulds, twists, strain and reshape their relation like a genius. I could not tell which direction my emotions are taking. The push and pull were driving me crazy! The story has a intricately crafted group of secondary characters like Dusty’s unlikely friends and her family and Stone’s friends. And they contribute so much to this epic story.
Enemies by Tijan will resonate with you no matter what kind of person you are. The emotions hold my heart captive. The aftermath of Tijan’s words is going to stay in my heart for a long time. Another masterpiece from the master storyteller. Tijan cracked my heart open and filled it with intense emotions.
Received ARC for Honest review
Let me start out by saying that any book that Tijan writes, I’m going to read. She never disappoints, and every single book is utterly amazing. ‘Enemies’ was no different. From the very beginning I was captivated by Dusty and her story. I hurt for her, I was rooting for her, and every single emotion Dusty felt, I felt like I was feeling them right there with her. What Dusty has been through in her life is something that most people can never fathom, but she still moves forward, yes it may be tough but she keeps pushing. As for Stone, holy smokes, this man is the definition of alpha. He’s a take charge guy, and even though he and Dusty haven’t spoken in years, when she needed him (even when she didn’t realize it) he was there for her. He’s a good guy behind the tough exterior and it’s hard to deny that Stone and Dusty have some off the charts chemistry. The question is, will that chemistry turn into more, or are they going to remain enemies for good?
This book. I probably don’t have the right words to do this book justice but I’m going to try anyways. From page one, I knew this was going to be one of my all-time favorite Tijan books, and I was not disappointed. Tijan has a way of writing about the grittier side of life. These characters have gone through it, but they’re still pushing on. Tijan doesn’t shy away from discussing the hard stuff, and she just shows you that no matter the money or who you are, nobody is perfect, and people have demons whether they talk about them or not. I didn’t want this book to end for a million different reasons, it was that good. Stone and Dusty reminded me of Mason and Sam from Tijan’s Fallen Crest series. Their love isn’t always pretty, but no matter the circumstances they are there for each other. Hands down one of my top reads of 2019. Thank you Tijan, for giving me a book I didn’t know I needed.
4.5
Enthralled, engrossed, enchanted, I would definitely say Enemies ticked all my boxes and more.
Tijan has given me yet another book, I could not put down and I felt a loss when I reached the end.
Enemies is more than a sports romance, more than an enemy to lovers romance, I was moved, I was invested in the characters, I loved it.
Dusty is a young woman starting college and once upon a time she had a best friend called Stone, they grew up together but through sad circumstances and a fallout with both their parents they parted ways. Dusty hadn’t seen or heard from Stone until she went to college and she just couldn’t get away from his name, Stone was the rising star in football that the whole town and campus loved.
When Dusty and Stone do finally meet again it’s not exactly a warm reunion or pleasant circumstances, there’s history between Sone and Dusty, unsaid things, truths to be revealed.
There’s heartache and heartwarming moments in Enemies, I was moved, happy, sad, it was like a rollercoaster read of emotions, it evoked so many and I also developed a huge love for these characters. And can I just say Stone is so swoony, loved him.
In summary, A good enemies to lovers read with younger characters that I highly recommend. Leads to hea and is told in first person pov.
When I finished this book I had also developed an interest in some extended characters so I do hope Tijan will be bringing their stories too.
“This wasn’t gentle. This wasn’t romantic. This was an escape and it was ugly and ragged.”
ENEMIES IS SO DAMN GOOD!!! It was truly unputdownable. Tijan has a talent for writing some of the most swoon worthy men and slightly broken but fiercely strong female characters that I have ever read.
“The world paused and I sat back, dragging in oxygen. A moment of peace, but the hand was coming back for more destruction.”
From beginning to end this book held all of my attention. This is much more than a friends turned enemies story. It is raw, painful, deep and beautiful. If you are looking for a sports romance that will leave you breathless grab this book!! If you are new to Tijan or a Tijanette for life read this book NOW!! Highly recommended!!!
“Never let anyone dim your light.”

Is it really fair for Tijan to release five novels this year, and each one happens to land on my list of favorite reads of the year and whittling that list down to a top…whatever (I haven’t made up my mind on what the final number will be)…is causing me anxiety because I feel like all five need to be a part of it?! This is what happens when an author is THIS gifted, but it’s a good “problem” to have compared to the alternative. Her latest published novel is a standalone with a whole set of new characters–a couple I fell truly, madly, deeply in love with, some I was smitten with and hoped we’ll get to know more (which basically means I hope Tijan writes books about them), and nearly the rest I quite liked. The story itself had all that wonderfully addictive angst that I cannot get enough of, but this isn’t drama for the sake of drama. Enemies is a story about best friends who became the worst of enemies, but when one of them loses almost all of the little they had left, Dusty Phillips and Stone Reeves become something in between…that is, until they become something more. Curious? Enticed? Whichever it may be, just read this book!
There’s a line from William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest that goes, “Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows,” and that’s what the main characters of Tijan’s Enemies end up becoming. As children, Dusty Phillips and Stone Reeves were each other’s closest friend, but they would go their separate ways, with the awkwardness that comes with awareness of certain things. Years would pass until the frayed ties that bound Dusty and Stone would finally be cut, because this time around, it was no longer “just” about their extinct friendship–it was about one family betrayed by the other, and one massive loss in Dusty’s young life left her not just bereft but abandoned by the boy who had become part of her home. When she ends up transferring to Texas C&B in her junior year, she has no friends and is barely making do with a closet-sized room in a house where it’s made clear that she’s the outsider who isn’t up to par. And Stone? He’s everywhere, but that’s what happens when the boy she grew up with then grew to hate is a professional football player for the Texas Kingfishers and considered a god down in Texas. Stone hates Dusty with equal passion, but when tragedy strikes her yet again, it’s her enemy who holds her close.
Tension, tension, all that delicious tension! This beautiful story about love and friendship and forgiveness and reconciliation has my heart. Dusty and Stone’s history is very much mired in a slew of conflicting and confusing thoughts, feelings, and situations, with a lot of the last one not even of their own doing. There’s a great deal of bickering between these two, and it isn’t difficult to see that there’s a great deal of hurt and pain that continues to linger. However, it’s in their quieter moments where I felt I could bear witness to how much deeper their relationship has always been and how the roots of that relationship were actually still very much entrenched in spite of everything that they had gone through. Both Dusty and Stone inspired a myriad of emotions out of me–frustration, inspiration, excitement, amusement, etcetera. Ultimately, though, it was contentment because after all the challenges that these two had to live with and live through, they came out of it stronger, wiser, and more open to anything and everything that would come their way knowing that they were absolutely better together than apart. As much as I gush about Dusty and Stone, I need to acknowledge the fantastic cast of characters that surround them and I sincerely hope we haven’t heard the last from them. Enemies is a five-plus-starred must-read.
Gah! I absolutely love a good sports romance and with Tijan being one of my favorite authors, I couldn’t wait to dive in to this one. And let me tell you… it DID NOT disappoint. Stone Reeves just became my new all-time favorite book boyfriend. He and Dusty made the absolute perfect couple. Stone is a sexy AF football god, and Dusty is a feisty and confident heroine who brings him to his knees.
Dusty has had a rough go at life. She lost her best friend in sixth grade. The two of them were thick as thieves until one day Dusty was no longer cool enough to hang out with. Then she lost her mom to an awful disease during her senior year in high school. Tired of all of the heartache and pain, she heads to Texas to start anew. But little did she know, he was there as well.
Stone is a famous wide receiver, and one of the greatest the football world has seen. Not only does he have the fame, but he is popular and wealthy as well. All of his dreams had come true, supportive parents, a pro football career and a big house to boot. But never did he expect to cross paths with her again, the girl he left behind in the sixth grade. Boy was he wrong.
The chemistry between these two absolutely sizzled. I loved the push and pull, the banter, the love/hate relationship, and the hot as hell sex scenes. Dusty and Stone were FIRE, and I just could not get enough. Tijan really packed a punch in this one, the angst, the drama, the laughter and the tears. Not to mention, all of the swoony moments that had my heart pounding. Their story really grabbed me by the heart and never let go.
Enemies was a heart-tugging, heat-filled, enemies-to-lovers, new adult sports romance. Dusty and Stone’s hard-earned happily-ever-after was all the more rewarding for the struggles they had endured. I absolutely loved this intensely emotional and passionate story, and I have no doubt, that you will too. It’s wonderfully written, highly addictive and completely unputdownable. I cannot recommend this one enough. Please do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK!
4.5 emotional Stars! Oh my heart. Oh. My. Heart. The trauma that Dusty went though just kept coming and coming. At first I was like, how is she ok!? Then I saw the emotional breakdown happening. This book was an enemies to lovers book, but it didn’t feel that way to me. It felt like Dusty hates Stone (for good reason) and Stone just was oblivious to a lot that went on. Stone was such a good guy. I absolutely loved this man. I absolutely loved how he took care of Dusty. He knew she was a mess, but he was the one who kept her head on her shoulders. He helped her to heal in any way he could. She pushed, a lot, and he stood his ground. He knew that she was his end game.
I really wish that there was more from Stone’s POV. I found myself really needing to know what was going on in his head. The end of the book really made my heart have all the flutters. Stone was trying to atone for the sins of his family but he always knew that Dusty was the girl for him, even from childhood. He knew she was a game changer. This poor girl went through SO MUCH. You have to wonder how she is still walking and functioning, but she did, with the help of Stone and her quirky roommates that I ended up loving. What a great book that reminded me a little of Ryan’s Bed.
Enemies is a compelling new adult novel that will take your breath away. I needed an entire day to process after reading this amazing book and I needed that day to wade in all the emotions that reading Enemies invoked.
Between Stone and Dusty, Tijan brings you a story that is more than just two people who lost a childhood friendship. Together they deal with grief and loss, but because they are no longer friends the way they deal with it is through a swirling hurricane of emotional turmoil. Both hurting and healing each other at the same time without necessarily discussing their past. This sets off a journey of push and pull that can be a bit destructive at times, but given their age, certainly appropriate too.
Dusty has the need to close herself off to people. Every and anyone she ever gets close to leaves her in some fashion. The tears continually flowed down my face with how she felt about herself. It is heartbreaking. When she meets Stone again for the first time after years of separation, it is explosive. Due to circumstances I don’t want to mention in my review since you need to read them and enjoy, Stone basically barges in and takes over her life. Coming from her public enemy #1 hurricane Dusty is set free.
Even as Stone helps her in small, but also big ways, throughout her healing process you find that perhaps Dusty was never far from his conscious thoughts, maybe tucked into his subconscious for awhile until the time was right for them to need each other once again. Stone doesn’t hold back when it comes to his childhood friend. He is protective and caring, but also steps back when Dusty asks him to step back. You really can’t help but like the big guy who is supposed to be the enemy.
Tijan never fails to write emotionally charged stories that are drenched with deep emotions and still she flashes you what beauty lays beyond heartache. This is why I love reading her books
4.5 stars–ENEMIES by Tijan is a contemporary, new adult, romance focusing on professional football player Stone Reeves, and college student Dusty Gray.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Stone and Dusty) ENEMIES focuses on the childhood friends to enemies to frenemies to lovers story line between professional football player Stone Reeves, and college student Dusty Gray. Nine years earlier Stone Reeves pushed his best friend Dusty Gray out of his life-walked away leaving a heart broken Dusty in his wake but things went from bad to worse when Dusty’s family suffered loss after loss forcing the family into poverty, obscurity, and struggling to survive. Fast forward to present day wherein Dusty has enrolled at the college, in the same town where Stone Reeves plays professional football, a town that worships the ground upon which Stones Reeves walks. Hoping to avoid any confrontation, Dusty soon discovers that things can definitely get worse, especially when Stone is the bearer of more bad news, bad news that sends Dusty spiralling out of control. What ensues is the rebuilding friendship and relationship between Dusty and Stone, and the potential fall-out as Dusty is unable to come to terms with what happened, and a future that no longer includes the people she loves.
Stone Reeves had no idea the secrets and lies that made enemies between the Reeves and the Grays. From power and greed to accusations, manipulation, sickness and death, the Gray family founds themselves on the outside looking in including a young girl who would lose her best friend to powers out of her control.
The relationship between Stone and Dusty is a second chance friendship, a friendship destroyed by vendetta and deception, circumstance and vengeance. Dusty struggles with her attraction to a man she wants to hate, an attraction that grows every time Stone comes to the rescue as Dusty’s life continues on a downward descent. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including the mean girls and b*tches, sport jocks and students, friends and extended family.
ENEMIES is a heart breaking and emotional story. Tijan pulls the reader into an angst-filled, impassioned, raw and gritty tale of love, loss, grief and acceptance. The premise is strong, sensitive and profound; the characters are dynamic and sassy; the romance is spicy, seductive and edgy.
Tijan really knows how to deliver a freaking blow to my heart with her steamy, angsty and downright blow-me-away kind of read!
Stone and Dusty — man what a duo these two were. I couldn’t get enough of them. Their story was captivating and the moment Stone was mentioned in the book, I perked up and couldn’t stop from reading.
Stone and Dusty are by far one of the best characters I’ve read in 2019!
The story line itself had me in pins and needles because Dusty sure was one spit fire of a girl and I loved her from the get-go, didn’t know what she was up to next. I was hanging from each word she said and Stone …. don’t get me started with Stone. He is totally the type of guy any girl swoons over no matter what.
What might have started off as Dusty and Stone being enemies really turned quickly and the affection he showed Dusty had me awwwing throughout the book. He is totally swoon-worthy and my type of guy for sure — where has he been all my life!
This book was packed with many steamy scenes that had me clenching my thighs no doubt and just the chemistry between these two was off the damn charts!
Anytime I get my greedy little hands on a book by this author, I settle in knowing that I will so immersed in the story that sleeping and eating become optional. This enemies-to-lovers sports romance was no different as I found myself engaged immediately from the first page and couldn’t put it down until I read those final words. My emotions were all over the place with this read – with my heart breaking many times over, while also having it glued back together.
This author is an absolute master in the way she writes her characters and portrays their thoughts and actions. At times, I felt as though I was experiencing Dusty’s pain – that I was in her mind and feeling her emotions. In the face of so much tragedy, the author created a strong, stubborn, and resilient character who also seemed relatable and well, human. She is one of those broken, perfectly imperfect heroines. As for Stone, I absolutely adored him! Yes, he was a famous NFL player, but he was remained grounded, protective, and a great pillar of strength. These two may have been enemies, but their relationship is so much more.
Enemies is a story that illustrates the possibility that with great tragedy comes great healing. I don’t know how to explain it, but while Dusty’s character really grew and evolved throughout the book so did several of the secondary characters which I really loved. Be sure to have your tissues handy as Enemies is a well written, emotional story that full of angst, heartache, healing, love, and of course good chemistry and steam.
As always Tijan puts me through an emotional wringer. Enemies hits home a lot. I felt like I was living in Dusty’s head. I felt the pain. I felt the disconnection. I felt the numbness. I felt it all. I’ve been where she is. So I related to her so much. Dusty is one character I’ll carry with me everywhere. She’s raw. She’s real. She’s perfectly imperfect and ok with it. She’s broken but ready to be put back together again. Of course the one to put her back again just happens to be the one man she loathes and hates. Stone is swoon worthy. He’s this big football superstar, but doesn’t use it to his advantage. When he learns the truth about the girl he grew up with, he changes. He sees Dusty in a new light. He gives her what she needs to help her cope all while slowly healing her heart.
One of he best things about Enemies? Dusty didn’t just have Stone filling her heart and helping her, she had a huge group of friends doing it as well. I loved how Tijan didn’t make it to where Stone was the only fix in Dusty’s broken life. She gave Dusty some pretty kickass friends who gave her space and time as well as friendship.
Once again I’m blown away by Tijan’s words. She does enemies so deliciously. She does emotion so real. Her words literally just weave you in a spell. Enemies has become my number one read this year!

Amazingly beautiful both the need to hate, and the want to love.
What a way to begin December!
After Teardrop Shot, I had to read Enemies and wasn’t disappointed. Heart wrenching novel with relatable characters. Tijan did an amazing job of balancing the tragedy with a good amount of humor and steam. A great enemies to lovers story to fall for.

Estranged childhood best friends Dusty Phillips and Stone Reeves reunite when Dusty ends up in the same town as Stone, setting off a series of unfortunate events for her & her family.
This story had a glaring amount of potential: estranged childhood friends, sports romance, enemies to lovers–literally a gold mine of tropes, but in more than one way, this story fell really flat for me. Know it’s a huge fan favorite, so apologies in advance, and if you do like this book, please skip this review!
The story was so slow when it began. The first like 7-8 chapters I was straight falling asleep and just didn’t know what was going on because it just seemed so irrelevant for me to delve into the lives of her roommates so deeply and not get any clarity as to what was going on. The whole roommate drama just seemed like it was taking away so much from the real story.
Dusty is honestly not a very like-able girl. She was just kind of rude to people who cared about her and closed off, which given the events in her life, I do understand but even before and after, I just could not connect with her or get in her headspace at all. I do think she’s a really strong character for everything she went through, despite the fact that I did not agree with the choices that she made.
The plots/conflicts felt so disjointed to me like oh yes, parents died, and also uh, stalker which was a plot I didn’t think was fleshed out very well. Girl WHAT? Why were they so casually dismissed and not explored appropriately? Why was there just so much back and forth & push and pull between them? It was so confusing sometimes being in her head because her thinking was all over the place. Also random two chapters in Stone’s POV – what was that about? I wish we either got more of it, or didn’t get it at all. Also, why were they enemies? I get it from Dusty’s POV, but from Stone’s, like just why?
I think the scene when Dusty was spewing all this shit just to make Stone mad at her/hate her was probably one of the worst things I read – making that shit up about his dad? Nah. Not it. I won’t stand by that ever.
The actual romance in this book missed the mark for me. Apart from Stone being a gem who was very love-able, I didn’t really feel their connection off the pages. The casual sex thing they were doing was a little confusing to me despite the whole enemies thing, which again – why?
The two stars in this review are literally for Stone because he honestly was such a sweet, caring guy who really took care of his borderline ungrateful, whiny best friend and I genuinely liked him so much. He was a really good person with an actual heart that I wanted to protect.
I am SAD, because I really wanted this book to be good and was so looking forward to it but if people can please recommend me sports romances like Wall of Winnipeg/Kulti for my aching soul, that would be greatly appreciated.
I really enjoyed the story and romance! This author writes some engaging storylines that I seriously enjoy!
That said, I didn’t really get our hero dropping his best friend just because he started noticing girls. Or how much he adored her mother but never bothered reaching out to his former best friend. The reasons weren’t very good.
Still, good romance!
This was my first book by Tijan and I went in blind without reading anything about it. I was immediately engaged in this book and thought the author brilliantly brought all the characters, their feelings, and relationships together. I enjoyed all the angst, found myself laughing, crying and cussing lol. The chemistry between Dusty and Stone was unpalpable, but all of the secondary characters were just as enthralling. Tijan, did a very good job of how drama generally is among girls. This book really pulled at the heart strings and you kind of dropped your mouth open from the first chapter. The only thing I would have liked seeing since this isn’t a series is in the epilogue you have no idea what happened to any of the secondary characters which was disappointing. I can’t wait to read other Tijan books!
