The remarkable story of Endal, voted ‘Dog of the Millennium’, and how, through his remarkable skills, companionship and unstinting devotion, he gave Allen Parton a reason to live again. Allen Parton was seriously injured while serving in the Gulf War. He lost the use of both of his legs, plus all memories of his children and much of his marriage. He was left unable to walk, talk or write – … write – isolated in his own world. After five years of intensive therapy and rehab, he was still angry, bitter and unable to talk. Until a chance encounter with a Labrador puppy – Endal – who had failed his training as an assistance dog on health grounds. They ‘adopted’ each other, and Endal became Allen’s reason to communicate with the outside world, to come to terms with his injuries, and to want to live again. Not content with learning over 200 commands to help Allen complete everyday tasks like getting dressed and going out to the shops in his wheelchair, Endal gave Allen the ability to start living again, and to become a husband and father again in his own special way. This is the incredible story of Allen, his wife Sandra, and his family. And, of course, Endal.

As humans we seldom grasp just how sensitive therapy dogs are and the impact they can have in people’s lives. Endal, is the story of a supremely gifted therapy dog and how deeply he effects his human dragging him from despair to acceptance to independence.
This was a great book, loved it.
An unbelievable story, I love the format—it helps it make more sense. Highly recommend it.
A devastating brain injury threatened to destroy this family. But the couple relates how faithfulness thru the worst of times and the healing sparked by a genius of a helper dog brought them back together again. A tremendous and uplifting story.
I guarantee u will not want to put this book down until u r done
Second half is better than the first.
This was my favorite book of the year (or maybe two or three years). This was an honest book from both people viewpoints, that showed what true love really is. Wish I could have met Endal.
I love a book that doesn’t end on a sad note, and this one delivers! The story of a man who suffers a traumatic brain injury in a military accident, and how he, and his family, endure through some really dark times to come out in the light – very inspirational! Told in alternating chapters by himself, and his wife – it keeps things moving …
this book is eye -opening with regards to the impact of a concussion/traumatic brain injury and also the impact of a service/assistant dog for those with disabilities. Endal is an amazing dog.
Amazing! Animal prescience, emotion, intelligence. A dog could do what many medical professionals could not.
The story was more about Endal’s impact on the wounded veteran and his family’s life than Endal himself. It’s a wonderful personal account of the difference a therapy dog can make in a person’s quality of life.
wonderful work of assistive dogs. Highlights the love dogs have for us and the healing benefit of such love.
It is a wonderful book! Fantastic Lab dog with intelligence beyond imagination. Very informative book about what a person who loses their memory of the past and is confined to a wheelchair goes thru and how it affects family also. Excellent reading for anyone.
I enjoyed the book. The style of the presentation of the book was interesting and worked. I could read it again.
Very realistic descriptions of war injuries and PTSD. The dramatic story of how these injuries effect the whole family.
Insight to what military families must endure when returning to civilian life, especially difficult when injury is present. Very emotional, inspirational, moving story.
This true story is a personal husband and wife journey after Allen (husband) received a traumatic brain injury while serving in the British Navy. It is such a personal story that really makes you think what these guys go thru and their families also. It was a LONG road back for him and she stayed with him thru it all. What Engal (dog) did for …
Amazed at this dogs intelligence
