The final book of Mr Mercedes is just as good as the previous two. Mr King developed wonderful characters and the story was a page turner. I’ve enjoyed all of his books I’ve read but this 3 book series is my favourite. No supernatural events, just a retired detective trying to find meaning in his life.
Fast moving. Very well written. Recommended to all.
The thing I loved best about this book is the focus on Brady’s paranormal abilities. Compared to the other two books in the series (which I enjoyed btw), this book more closely resembled King’s previous works of supernatural suspense. This was an amazing end to a surprisingly good series.
I read a few other reviews that complained about the book being unrealistic and not providing a believable explanation for Brady’s abilities. Being a huge Stephen King fan, I am thrilled with Brady’s powers and I definitely wasn’t looking for realism in this book. King’s ability to take typically benign things/people/animals and turn them into supernaturally terrifying threats is part of his charm. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
This is the third book in King’s Bill Hodges trilogy and it’s a stunner. I’ve loved all three books.
Stephen King truly is a one of a kind writer. The whole Bill Hodges series is incredibly written and just makes you want to keep reading till the very end. I truly enjoyed this book as I have every other book by SK. I hope to read them all in time. Thnak you to Stephen King for your truly incredible and intriguing books.
A fitting end to the trilogy. Atypical King in that this isn’t necessarily a horror novel but still contains some of those elements. All fans will want to start with Mr Mercedes and just keep going thru to End of Watch…you won’t be sorry!
Third in the series. Excellent ending.
Is Stephen King a flawless writer? Nah. Does his dialog skew toward the cheesy? Oh yeah, all the time. Does he create characters that crawl under the reader’s skin? Without fail. Does he then kill those characters right in front of your face? Usually.
I have been reading Stephen King since I was 12 years-old, starting with Carrie. He is known as the King of Horror, but honestly, his best work is done in psychological thrillers. The Bill Hodges series, in my opinion, ranks up there as some of King’s best work, and, until the very last book, there was really nothing supernatural in these stories.
I’m sad that this trilogy is over. Bill and Holly feel like my friends, and I will miss them.
I partook in the audio version of this book, and I must say, Will Patton is one of the greatest audio book narrators working today.
I’m not sure how much I liked the storyline of this book, just because it was a little more unrealistic, which is out of character for this trilogy. That being said, because it was unrealistic I wasn’t expecting a lot of the twists, and I was on the edge of my seat. As usual, I listened to the audiobook, and Will Patton was a fantastic narrator as always. (He narrates a few other King books, so I’m excited to check those out!)
No one ever wants a series to end, and that remains true for this series. I was so wrapped up in the world of Bill, Holly, and Jerome solving mysteries that I was sad to see it end. Of course, Mr. King can’t just have the series end without making me bawl like a newborn, so some tears were shed at this ending. The characters and pace were great, but the storyline wasn’t consistent with the other’s in the series, so I gave the book four stars.
A great end to the Bill Hodges Trilogy. These three books reminded me of why I love to read Stephen King. His writing is sharp, witty, and perceptive.
Final book of the trilogy. King wraps the series up in the usual King way, people die that you are wanting dead and those that you want to live die also.
