I enjoyed the various places Morgan and Jake went to, to find the seals. I even liked the conspiracy stuff that had Martin out in the field with them.
The way serpents from all ages and countries were connected to bring about the creature found in the deep was quite creative – and a lot of fun to read.
Morgan’s doubt and grief was palatable throughout the book.
A thrilling adventure with crazy fanatics trying to usher in the end times, Jake and Morgan nearly dying several times in amazing places to stop them, whispers of the occult, and loads of fantastic history makes this an enjoyable read.
With the antagonist scaling the depths of evil to end the world, the contest Is on to find the seven seals for a sarcophagus containing a serpent.
Racing around the world to archaeological sites, Arkane is often ahead. But thwarted at the last hurdle, the world is in great jeopardy.
However, we are still here, so they put everything to rights. But it’s not all hunky dory. Tragedy strikes one of the team, leading to a life-changing decision.
The usual fast-paced thriller expected from this author, and I can recommend it to you.
suspense, thriller, supernatural, action-adventure, mystery, myths-legends, riveting
Amazing! From the religious snake handlers of Appalachia to Berlin to Iraq and more the ARKANE team work hard against an enemy who once worked with them. One of the best things about this series is that you can just drop in and enjoy without having to fuss about having read things in order and each stands alone just fine. Like a Cussler book, the organisation is a constant and the main investigators are colorful threads in a tapestry richly adorned by the exotic locales and the rather supernatural problems that they encounter. It’s filled with suspense and kept me riveted into the night! Of course I loved it, even though I loathe snakes!
The audio is ably performed by Veronica Giguere.
End of Days (ARKANE #9), my fifth read from author J.F. Penn, is captivating, with well-developed characters coupled with an outstanding suspense story-line with its intricately woven twists and turns. I’m a character reader, I get into what makes characters tick, who and what they are. Penn does a good job with her character development; you can like and/or hate these characters. I was given an Audible copy of this book back in August of 2017, lost track of it, and am just now getting around to voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Narrator Veronica Giguere’s narration adds to the book’s enjoyment. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).I’ll be reading more by this author when I buy more of her books. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
another great story. I like the Dan Brown’ish’ feel of this story. you get to learn while you read. ready for the next one.
I received a free advance copy from J.F. Penn, for my honest review and I also pre-ordered it from amazon.com. Something I like to do to support my favorite authors.
Absolutely addictive, J.F. Penn’s writing style just sucks you in, your right their in the action, on the edge of the seat cheering that Morgan, Jake, Martin and the rest of the Arkane crew to defeat evil and it’s a read that you don’t want to see end.
This is so well researched, like all the historic sites included in her reads, even if she adds extra elements to it, what an amazing imagination and it’s always done right.
Penn has mastered the ability to stay the straight and narrow keeping everything realistic, believable even with a supernatural element add to it, and the cool thing is she puts the reader right their into the pages, your right their for all the heart pounding action.
The snake handling scene in the Pentecostal Church, with Lilith in the Appalachia Mountains in KY is perfectly written and it ends creepily with her holding three Rattlers.
Lilith’s character is amazing. Penn actually made me like a evil character for a change, but what I really like is that at least I had a premise that she, created a unknown element and once the bad guys get the seven seals.
In the end Lilith embraced her destiny, welcome the great serpent, without fear and no surprise considering that most bad people are fueled by fear regardless how evil they are.
Definitely if you haven’t tried J. F. Penn’s books before, do yourself a favor and give her a try. This is the cool thing with ebooks, embrace the technology, it’ll open new worlds/genres in your reading and you’ll discover authors like J.F. Penn who write gems like End of Days.
The best thing with Penn’s writing, she ends it with a sneaky peek at the next Arkane adventure and gets you excited for what’s next.
Great read
Just creepy. I don’t like snakes so after reading a few chapters I knew I needed to abandon it.
I didn’t even finish reading it…it just got boring.
This is certainly a book that is not on par with the writings of Dan Brown as advertised. There was no character development. There was some left wing commentary. Most importantly, it didn’t make a whole lot of sense. So glad I didn’t pay anything for it.
