Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection to eternal life.
Four caskets. Two bodies.
Jessica and Jude Day witness their funeral and that of their parents a few yards away from mourning family and friends. Stripped of the only life they’ve ever known, the Days say goodbye to San Francisco forever.
Six months later, two thirty-year-old misfits with elite self-defense skills and penchants for alcohol, sex, and trouble arrive like an earthquake to Peaceful Woods, a retirement community in Omaha, Nebraska, that thrives on rules and gossip. Welcome home, Jackson and Jillian Knight.
Jackson celebrates his new beginning by embracing his job and wiping his cavalier past clean with a temporary oath of celibacy. But Jillian’s past is branded into her soul—the deaths, the insanity, Dr. Luke Jones, and the need to make her lovers bleed. Her chance for redemption comes in the form of a next door neighbor, one Senior Master Sergeant Monaghan. He’s sexy, dangerously alluring, and riddled with emotional issues from years of service. He’s also … So. Damn. Grumpy.
Their mission is simple: Let go, start over, don’t kill anyone, and pray that nobody wakes the dead.

I’ve been thinking real hard how to summarise the book or write this review. The story is expansive but quite contained in settings. intricate & dark yet delightfully funny. It’s emotionally exhaustive, yet physically ferocious and passionately replenishing. Mindtwister but still very enticing. Hence my dilemma which box to put this story in?
One of those kinds of books, where you’re physically glued to the book, head burrowed deep in the words and temptation to cancel any plans of going out, showering or eating is very strong. The story is so engaging and captivating, I had to turn the pages and keep going, ignoring all the chores.
It’s her first book if I’m not wrong, and you can already see she is a maestro of words. This series sets the stage for many other books to come. The characters from this series go forth and get their own books, spreading jewel’s genius everywhere.
The first scene just hooked me. From then on I was in a hurry to unravel the mystery of alluring Red booted Jessica/Jillian. She’s like a succulent lollipop dangling in front of Senior Master Seargent AJ Monhaghan, her next door neighbour. Oh so sexy, brooding, temperamental and owner of a strong, ripped bod. Jillian is drooling in no time and when two stubborn people get attracted, clangs of clashes can be heard all over.
“You’re fucked-up.”
“Pot. Kettle. Black.”
Story is simple on the surface but very complicated underneath.
Jack(son) & Jill(ian) have been relocated, kinda like WitPro and they must blend in the near adult quiet community in Omaha-Nebraska.
Luke is left behind, why?….(i think I’ll find out in next book) and a piece of her sanity too. She’s trying to move on and forward but sometimes past words still echo in her empty, numb heart.
It’s like the thrill seeker who goes full throttle all the time, never fearing death because eight seconds of that rush is worth more than eighty years of boring monotony. Luke was my eight seconds.”
The moment this scantily clad, sexbomb sets her foot in Peaceful Woods, men loose their peace of mind. She’s a Lolita for older residents.
There’s two parallel stories running, that of Jessica Maeve Day and Jillian knight.
The relocation of Jessica is supposed to be a rebirth of sorts for her. Wipe the slate clean and start afresh. But she still carries the troublesome virus inside of her which is screwing with her needs and wants. Bites & Blood are her urges and she’s falling off the wagon.
when she couldn’t mentally or emotionally handle a situation, she tried to physically control it. AJ was clearly one of those situations.
I was so fascinated by Jewel’s deep dive into the psychological problems of the traumatic minds, it’s like i stumbled upon a secret door to the dank, dark basement. I was scared to go down and yet my feet kept moving!!!
Story jumps past and present in alternating chapter. The simultaneous stories are helpful in showing the transformation of Jill from where she was to where she is now!.
Whys and wherefores become clearer as the story races ahead and it ends on a very crucial juncture. I need to dive back fastest cause I need to know how far she will go to bring closure(if there is any) and what happens to Jack from now on.
Who survives and HOW MUCH!
She took me back to the start!
5 stars for Fin De journeé

With the Jack and Jill series, author Jewel E. Ann has become one of my favorite writers. I’ve loved her work before, but this? This book is everything. For most of the three books my heart was in a near-constant state of fibrillation. Every now and then she wrap a bandage around the cracks, but then tear it off again. The characters are multidimensional and beautifully drawn, even the evil ones. The scenes effortlessly moved from dark to light, and there were many times I laughed out loud. One of the things I find most important in a book is how the characters develop and change. I want to see that transformation and understand how or why it takes place. Jewel has mastered this art. There are few books I can say this about, but this is a series I will read again, and maybe even again once more.
Wow End of Day is amazing! I went into this book blind. I didn’t even read the blurb about the book before jumping in. I have read a couple of other Jewel E. Ann books and loved them so was hoping the same for this book. I wasn’t sure where the story was going to go from the funeral and then Jude and Jessica spend six months off the grid. When they end up relocated into a retirement community in Omaha it started to get entertaining. Loved the banter between Jillian and AJ and Jillian and her brother Jackson. This kept the story from being too heavy. The author did an amazing job of going from past to present. I can’t wait to start book 2.
End of Day is a funny, sexy, and emotional journey. It’s just brilliant and a must read! There are so many layers in the story that it’s difficult to stop yourself from reading.
Jessica and Jude are twins. They were experts in two areas: combat and survival. When their parents were murdered, Jessica and Jude had to start over. All their friends believed they committed suicide. But Jessica and Jude became different people.
Jessica’s biggest loss was Luke. He was her savior. Her breath of fresh air. He loved her even though she was damaged.
“You took everything. I never had a choice. You tore into my life… into my heart, wrecking all sense of the man I was before you. Being with you is the best part of my day… every day. You think you’re broken, but you’re not. And if you were… it wouldn’t matter. I love every. Single. Peace of you.” – LUKE
Jessica and Jude Day are now Jillian and Jackson Knight. Jillian can’t have Luke. Jillian doesn’t know Luke. Jillian has a chance to be a normal woman… in Omaha, Nebraska. Bye bye San Francisco.
Sergeant Monaghan (AKA AJ) is their lucky grumpy neighbor. He is divorced, suffering from PTSD, and also looks like Hugh Jackman. Yummmm!.
AJ and Jillian’s relationship is a bit messed up… but it works. They are each other’s therapy. The chemistry between them is explosive.
But of course things are complicated. One reason is because Jessica/Jillian can’t forget about Luke. The story makes you really feel for the characters!!!
This one has been on my TBR for far too long…I’m truly sad I waited so long to read this author’s work. Although I’m starting to worry this story might break me. So much loss, so much brokenness…how does anyone endure.
I love these characters and I have to say I wasn’t really expecting so much humor and laughter, but it’s undeniably necessary with the trials these MCs need to endure. This first book is full of great moments, horrible moments and that “something crawling under the skin” feeling that we’ve barely scratched the surface.
I’ll be binging this one…off to book 2 Middle of Knight.
I put this series off for so long because I can not read 3rd person! I can’t do it. I bit the bullet and I’m glad I did. This series is phenomenal. It is so complex it couldn’t be written any other way.
Ok so I’ve started and stopped and started and stopped this book several times (due to several things) and I finally finished and OH MY GOD!
This is like the BIGGEST cluster in the history of clusters! I don’t even know what to say except…
I.LOVED.EVERYTHING.ABOUT.THIS.BOOK
Jewel E Ann and just bulldozed her way right up the line in my list of favorite authors. The comedic relief that she lets loose in her books fills me with such joy and I find myself laughing my ass off until I cry!!!
Jillian/Jessica was no exception! She absolutely killed me! This is headed in some direction that i don’t even know and I will definitely be reading the final two books so many unanswered questions and I am here for it!!!!

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I started this series, I heard nothing but great things about it and I wasn’t disappointed! It’s not your average romance book, there are so many things going on, so many layers, so many turns you don’t see coming. This book keeps you on your toes, Jack and Jill are the kind of characters that will stick with you for a lifetime, that’s how powerful their story is!
This series was super original and was a lot of fun to read. I laughed a lot and cried a little and devoured every book.
One of my favorite books of all time. Having Kindle Unlimited, I usually borrow books and then wait for the next one by that author. With this series, I finished reading them on Kindle Unlimited and then also purchased them. Full of intrigue, drama, love, and loss. This is a must read. You have just discovered a new favorite author.
Based on all the fab reviews and high ratings, I just had to stick my nose in this book’s intriguing but rather bizarre at times premise of a romantic read. I’m still not quite sure what to make of Jillian’s (aka Jessica), the heroine, character. She was quite the brazen, bizarre, broken, loose cannon, unpredictable character. At first I found her non-stop sass, especially with her twin bro, a hoot until it morphed into utterly exhausting. Her on and off again lack of basic manners and crossing lines of propriety had me shaking my head at times in embarrassment for her.
Color me crazy, but I didn’t find it cool or sexy she’d walk to the mailbox in her underwear, paper thin braless tank top, and red knee high boots in a mostly senior citizen subdivision, where everyone seemed to always be out and about. Really, just really? What purpose did that actually serve? I didn’t blame the hero for repeatedly telling her to put on some dang clothes and stop parading practically naked around his 20 year old son and show some respect for the neighborhood by not flashing everyone every time the mail was delivered.
Turns out the hero had a huge emotional anchor around his neck, as well. His actually seemed legitimate and realistic. Jillian always trying to flirt with him did lead to a lot of back and forth banter and even vicious barbs. Those in turn led to turned on groping, roaming hands, passionate kissing, and numerous (make that countless) graphic smex scenes. Unfortunately, none of that seemed to put them on the road to a healthy, meaningful relationship. Maybe that will happen by Book 4, folks.
The slow paced, constant, popped up out of nowhere, lengthy, drawn out flashbacks of past conversations with a man Jillian is still deeply in love with and her present day daily life shenanigans (including the eye rolling side job of selling sex toys and her weird, beyond demented, psychotic, uncontrollable pre-sex ritual that maims her lovers) had her as one continuous hot mess, in need of more serious therapy.
At 426 pages, it all seemed to play out forever but continued in circles. Intermixed in all this is the strong hint via glimpses and snippets from the past of a whacked serial killer scenario. I suspect the eventual reveal of what actually led to her parents death will be heaped upon that as well as yet another side drama situation messing with this girl’s head. I think there are actually four things contributing to her mental health issues
At 60% into it, I had to come to grips with the fact it all just seemed to be too much and ran together to the point the story line got hung up in the whole mess. It’s pretty sad when I kept finding myself thinking,”Why am I still reading this? Oh, yeah, it’s only because I hate not finishing a book…and maybe it will get better.” At 85%, I’m writing this review pondering whether I will make it to the last sentence.
Two distinct inexcusable, disrespectful name calling episodes by AJ towards Jillian met with equally disbelief that she still had smex with him immediately afterwards. Oh, yeah, that’ll teach him, huh?
So at the end of the day, I liked the promise and premise set up by the opening scene, the quirky, unusual relationship she had with her twin bro, but, as often is the case, sometimes an author tries too hard to shock us in hopes of being original but throws in way too much OTT content they can’t consistently juggle it all to a realistic conclusion. For me that’s what felt like happened here.
It looks like a slight reprieve might be given in Book 2, Middle of Knight, only because it is supposed to center mostly on Jackson, the former manho bro about to break his celibacy streak with AJ’s housekeeper (Ryn). I suspect, of course, Jullian and AJ will continue to share the spotlight in smex scenes, because that is what they mostly do.
Since Book 3 will continue to be about AJ and Jillian plus the other man she’s still in love with, we clearly haven’t seen the last of this dysfunctional relationship. I also just found out there will be a book 4, Out of Love. Well, imagine that. She’s likely finally given up on being with the other man, which is a big reason this avid romantic at heart tries to steer clear of love triangles to begin with.
All I can say now is good grief! I thought it was drawn out here. I guess I haven’t seen anything yet, folks.
I’m glad others seemed to have enjoyed this book. I wish this author continued writing success. I just think it had too many “Say what? And you’ve got to be kidding me” content and moments. The author has an intriguing writing style. I hope to find it is yielded differently in her previous and future series.
Title: End of Day, Series: Jack & Jill, Author: Jewel E. Ann, Pages: 426, pub date: 12/2/17, to be continued, dysfunctional relationship, messed up heroine, not romance safe IMHO, still loves another man, PTSD divorced hero, must read books in order, maims her lovers, whacked serial killer drama past, numerous very graphic smex scenes.
Book 1 – End of Day (Jillian & AJ)
Book 2 – Middle of Knight (Jackson & Ryn)
Book 3 – Dawn of Forever (likely all of them)
Book 4 – Out of Love (more of the same)
(I voluntarily read and reviewed a Kindle Unlimited edition of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review. There is no affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author, publisher, or any PR firm.)
Oh wow! Jewel E. Ann and her amazing twists and incredible writing!
These are seriously complex characters and the story is filled with intense emotions. Jillian, Jackson, Luke, and Sarge have my head and heart in overdrive and I’m so anxious to see what is going to happen next!
This suspenseful story filled with humor, banter, and emotional turmoil will have you anticipating to the end.
Jewel E. Ann never ceases to amaze me. I feel like that is saying a lot since she is a relatively new author to me. Everything I have read by her has kept me captivated and entranced as a reader. End of Day has completely captured my attention and I’m vying for more. There is a lot happening in this first book so I don’t want to give anything away. End of Day is amazing in how Jewel captures Jessica / Jillian. If you are confused by the Jessica / Jillian reference, you need to read the book in order to find out for yourself. At first, you think it’s a tad confusing because things aren’t making sense and you don’t know what is going on. BUT, you hold on to your saddle and keep going on. The ride is about to make sense and get a little rough. It’s totally worth it.

You get sucked in to both stories Jessica /Jillian’s and the mystery behind it all consumes you until the very cliffy end!
Loved all the twists and turns in this one!
Well played Jewel!
This is a book that is very hard to review. Finishing it is whew. So much is going on in this book, but it’s really about two people – Jackson and Jillian. Brother and sister who suffered a tragedy and are relocated to Omaha. That is a very basic summary. In reality this book has so much going on but it all takes place in a confines area.
Jillian/Jessica is the main focus of this book. As a reader you are given pieces of her current life as Jillian and her previous life as Jessica. Your heart breaks for her as she retells her childhood and the tragedy that took place when she was fourteen. As you see her trying to reconcile the person and life she’s suppose to be living today, while forgetting who she was just months ago. There are questions not answered yet.
Jackson , her twin brother, seems to be adjusting to his new life and identity better than his sister, but is he really? He may be better able to compartmentalize.
I look forward to book 2. I need questions answered.
OMG this book! Total insanity!!! What a wild and emotional ride. I’m in deep with these characters. I can’t even imagine how this story will end. I’d like to put poor Jillian into a time machine but somehow I doubt this story will have that twist lol. My heart is pounding through my chest, so I’m moving immediately to Book 2!
Update: this series is one of my top favorites. I still think about the characters all the time. I mean, Dr. Jones…. swoon!! I just absolutely loved these books. They are filled with suspense, mystery, love, laughter, and heartbreak. I HIGHLY recommend this series!
I’m completely blown away by this story! A wild ride that I was not expecting. I was drawn to all of the characters, made to sympathize and care for and root for them.
Told in alternating points of view, this is Jillian & Jackson Knight’s story of starting a new life with new identities, but Jillian brings along a lot of baggage from a very damaging past. Their neighbor Senior Master Sargent AJ Monaghan who trying to deal with his own issues including PTSD can’t fight his attraction to the wild Jillian Knight. (I love AJ’s super dry humor!!)
“…no bra, lace panties, and red rain boots.” Sarge straightened with a stiff air of readiness. “I see. Was anyone else outside witnessing it?” Cage grinned. “Oh yes. It was like the second coming of Christ. The women gasped, nearly fainting, and the men…” Cage winked with an easy nod “…well, a part of them was most likely resurrected.”
The story also goes into the past to tell of Jessica and Jude Day…especially Jessica’s very complicated relationship with Dr Luke Jones. We start to discover bits and pieces of the mystery surrounding the reasons for Jackson & Jillian’s new life and identities.
-5 Stars!-
OUTRAGEOUS female character
End of Day is the first book in the Jack and Jill trilogy, and my first introduction to this author. I devoured this book, it was that AMAZING! Jewel E. Ann has an incredible talent with words and story-telling ̶ creating a complex plot that intertwines the past and present, an ass-kicking brother and sister duo, and the HUMOR… the humor balanced perfectly with the dark. I’ve never met a heroine quite like this, and I want to be just as carefree as her! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, and hoping to get to know the brother just as well. Jewel E. Ann is definitely an author that I’ll be watching out for!
