Empire is the coming-of-age story of Reza Gard, a young boy of the Human Confederation who is swept up in the century-long war with the alien Kreelan Empire. Nightmarish female warriors with blue skin, fangs, and razor sharp talons, the Kreelans have technology that is millennia beyond that of the Confederation, yet they seek out close combat with sword and claw, fighting and dying to honor their … honor their god-like Empress.
Captured and enslaved, Reza must live like his enemies in a grand experiment to see if humans have souls, and if one may be the key to unlocking an ages old curse upon the Kreelan race. Loved it.
Great followup to previous ook in the series. I’m working my way thru this fascinating story line.
The characters are well developed. The martial arts teaching goes with my understanding of martial arts history. Displays how fractious homo sapiens is as a whole. Well built story line. Ended way too soon – wanted more books!
I found it quite depressing, I am not sure I want to read the others in the series. Everyone dies except one. Ending was a lead in to the next book, which really is ok if you like the book. Not so much when you just want to know what ends up happening. Lots of violence.
For first contact genre, it’s good, a notch below Mote in Gods Eye which is the book that I compare first contact books with.
Keep me going
Very original story.
This one has a fascinating premise: young survivor of alien invasion is actually raised by same implacable evil aliens and comes to basically identify with the alien culture then is booted the hell out. Interstellar warfare with swords and nearly sorcery. Really good character development of the human protagonist and the alien trainer and …
Exciting storyline Worth reading.
I’m a sucker for a creative and new idea in SciFi, and this book was both. Humans and the aliens are both sentient and have sophisticated technology, but the cultural differences are almost unsurmountable, at least in this first book. In my opinion, that’s a valid and often-overlooked issue.
Great character development, and all the important …
Addicted to this series.
I have read the whole series….loved it….very additive!
Surprisingly involved for a sci-fi adventure.
I enjoyed this book. It was a fun read!
This entire Trilogy is fantastic.
A great saga. Couldn’t put them down till I finished the whole series.
Enjoyed it as much as Game of Thrones & I didn’t think that would ever happen. Just had to keep buying the next book. Warning: Addictive
This was one of the most original stories I have read. The character of Reza was so interesting in that he had none of the standard male over bearing tendencies. Instead he adapted to any situation in order to survive and overcome. You never knew what would happen next or how he would react.
I need to start at the beginning of the series.
A very good read. I found it hard to put this one down. I tend to read one or two books a week, and I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I felt there was a female samurai culture thing happening with the aliens in this novel; at least something in a similar vein. There is something magical in the writing where you despise the antagonists in the …
This story grabbed me and kept me reading until the end with no breaks. I give it three stars because at the end the main character gives up every thing he earned and suffered for because he could not war on his own kind. He had multiple opportunities to NOT swear allegiance but he did swear allegiance and now he changes his mind ! And they let …
