Empire is the coming-of-age story of Reza Gard, a young boy of the Human Confederation who is swept up in the century-long war with the alien Kreelan Empire. Nightmarish female warriors with blue skin, fangs, and razor sharp talons, the Kreelans have technology that is millennia beyond that of the Confederation, yet they seek out close combat with sword and claw, fighting and dying to honor their … honor their god-like Empress.
Captured and enslaved, Reza must live like his enemies in a grand experiment to see if humans have souls, and if one may be the key to unlocking an ages old curse upon the Kreelan race. Enduring the brutal conditions of Kreelan life, Reza and a young warrior named Esah-Zhurah find themselves bound together by fate and a prophecy foretold millennia before they were born.

The second book in the series I’ve read. I can’tant believe how much detail Hicks has put into developing the whole universe. Press, the young human boy who is drawn into the alien culture was not disappointing.
Original.looking forward to rest of story
too violent for me.
Read all in this series and found all great stories really enjoyed could not put down just great to read
Another hit in the “In her name” series
A different type of Alien character/foe! Have to get the next book to see how things play out on the future of humans!
This is part of the “In Her Name” series. These stories are some of the best I have read. The hero could use a little more self confidence, but I realize that is one his growth paths in the story. By the end of the series you will feel you lived in those places and knew those characters.
1st in the series have now read them all! Enjoyable space fiction
Had me totally engrossed, and wanting more by the last page.
My feelings on this book are difficult to put into words. There are so many things happening I truly am at a loss. It is a wonderful read, the characters are so well developed, you can not help but be deeply touched by their struggle and the ending.
The plot twists were so well crafted, it was amazing.
I want to continue following this epic and …
I have never written an author before but when Mr. Hicks hadn’t finished the last book in Empire I was disappointed as he had started on a new series and really wanted to know the “end of the story”. He was polite enough to write me back and we had an interesting conversation about writers block. He gave me other book reading suggestions but …
Very good story. A lot of twist.
Great read. Enjoyed it very much. Makes me wonder, if this is the 4th book, what has the Author done with the first three? This one is basically a beggining story, very interesting, so what happened before?
The whole series is great fun to read and enjoyable .
Good SciFi read. Very imaginative civilization.
excellent series, but I prefer the second arc (books 4-6) to the first arc (books 1-3)
Great sci-fi epic. If you hate for a book to end you’re in luck. There are at least 8 books in this series and all added to the depth of the characters—both good guys and bad guys
One battle after another. Started good but got boring.
Fun to read! Good fantasy !
One of the best sci-fi stories I have read.
