Story of Lara Hargreaves and Kane O’Neill. Amazing book. Really liked it. This is my first book by this author. Strong characters and chemistry between them. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have some mitigated feelings about this book. the story is sweet and entertaining, I have never read a story where the dynamics are this different age-wise and with the characters. I was annoyed by the authoritarian personality of Lara’s father but her father loved and just did not know how to show it. Kane is definitely persistent and I love the fact that he did not want to be pushed out of his child’s life as he himself recently discovered that he was adopted and was searching for his family. Two different worlds come together and make one that is appropriate for them.

This book was a short read, but it was well written. This is the first book I have read by Catherine Coles, and it will not be the last.
Lara returns to work for the first time, and she tries to prove to her boss who happens to be her father that she is dedicated to her job. However, not too long after, she discovers that she didn’t just have memories of her one night stand. She has two blue lines. Kane found out he was adopted and wants to travel to see his birth family. When he finds out that Lara is pregnant, he doesn’t want to leave his baby behind. Can they turn their one night stand into something more real and meaningful, or is better to leave it as a one night stand?

Both main characters are on a journey to find themselves in one way or another after having a devastating experience. They meet and spend a night together. This leads to an unexpected pregnancy where they have to figure out what they choose to do next. A good read that I worth a try.

This is book two of the Seacrest Siblings series and the two main characters are Doctor Lara Hargreaves and paramedic Kane O’Neill. Lara has returned to work shortly after nursing her mother as she was dying from breast cancer and wonders if she maybe returned too soon, as a similar case ends up in the Emergency Department (ED) and she doesn’t cope with it as well as she hoped. Her father is in charge of the ED at Tasmin Memorial Hospital in New Zealand and has been grooming her to take over when he retires. Only he isn’t the warm or emotional type of father and left her to cope with nursing her mother all alone, always asking when she would be back at work!
Kane is a typical, carefree surfer type and some ten years younger than Lara. He is only working as a paramedic for the hospital on a six month contract, as he wants to travel to England to find his siblings. He found out as he was looking for his documentation to apply for university that he was adopted and his adopted parents had never told him. He has found out he has a number of other siblings and he feels he will never be complete until he finds out where he came from. He plans to save his money and then go to the UK at the end of his contract, whether he has heard anything from his real family by then or not, figuring it will be easier from the same country, instead of from so far away.
His carefree manner rubs Lara up the wrong way when she first sees him, but she can’t get him out of her mind after that, and he fancies her, but presumes she is out of his league. A drunken night out for them both after a really bad shift, ends up with them in bed together and making more than just memories. She kicks him out after realising she has succumbed to her desires, but finds out later that she is pregnant. Delaying telling Kane just causes more problems between them and decisions have to be made. He wants to be the baby’s father and will do everything he can to look after her and the baby as she continues to be sick, but neither of them are very good at telling each other how they really feel and what they want for the future of any sort of relationship between them and also with the baby!
Great advice from those closest to them, but never the ones they would expect to have such insightful advice, help them to communicate a bit better, before old problems can raise their heads and throw a spanner in the works. Kane has to weigh up his desire to find his family, with the new addition to his own family that he has created with Lara and decide where his priorities lie. Lara needs to realise she cannot be the son her father seemed to want to take over from him, and to start to decide what she wants from her own life and to start following that path. Whether this will lead to Lara and Kane being a family when the baby comes along, is for you to discover.
A lovely telling of two people in high pressure jobs and seemingly complete opposites in lifestyle and attitude, working through their differences and having to work out what is the most important part of their lives after they make a baby together! Nicely told and the added twist of Kane’s adoption and search for his siblings made for a great follow up story to follow and find out more. I presume his adoption is part of the Seacrest siblings from the title, having not managed to pick up book one as yet, but I look forward to reading that and the next one as well. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
A fun and enjoyable story line that holds your attention from start to finish. An easy read where you can just sit back and enjoy and not think. Wonderful characters that are well developed, relatable and easy to like. The story flows smoothly from page to page and holds the reader’s attention throughout the entire book.

Unexpected pregnancy romances are my favorite genre of romance novels, if they’re a genre, I suppose.
I loved the fact that this story explores the dynamics between an older woman who is more established in a more prestigious career with that of a man ten years younger who was planning on passing through town to reconnect with his birth family.
Set in New Zealand, this doctor and paramedic have to figure out if they can raise a child together. Can Kane be a father when he doesn’t know anything about his birth family—and feels incomplete?
I love the premise of the novel, however, I didn’t find their chemistry as compelling as I would have thought it would be for a story like this, but that doesn’t mean other readers won’t read it differently.
I would have picked up this novel automatically, regardless of the chance to review an advanced copy because I love a good unexpected pregnancy with a HEA, so you should too, if you like these stories!

Lara slept with Kane when she was drunk and sad about her mom and then kicked him out. She didn’t even want to tell him that she became pregnant. Yes, he is younger and has a wayward fun spirit, but would she have wanted to be treated that way by a man? There were a lot of communication issues in this book. Despite Kane’s age he steps it up, taking extra care of Lara while she’s battling all day morning sickness. I thought it was cute that he googled what to feed her for it and cooked it. Her selfish cheating ex-fiance wouldn’t have done that. Kane battles with wanting to know more about his birth siblings and being their for Lara and their child.
This book was so fun to read, and I loved the main characters! Lara tried so hard to keep up a cool and professional manner, and Kane was determined to break through her defenses. I loved how they both handled the unexpected pregnancy, and how Kane was so sweet and protective with her. The side story of Kane searching for his siblings really pulled on the heartstrings too, as well as Lara and her Dad’s relationship transformation. The conclusion was satisfying and left me with a smile on my face. I will be looking for more books from Ms. Coles in the future.
Overall: Good and recommended short read
Type: younger M/ older F, surprise baby
Series: standalone
Story: Read the blurb – no spoilers here.
Humor: not much
Drama: a little but nothing major
Angst: not really
Heroine/Hero: Paramedic meets Doctor
Personal notes: This is the first book I’ve read from this author. Characters are decently developed but I felt there could have been a little more tension, anxiety, angst, something between them. Frankly, if you’re having a kid from a one night stand, I can’t imagine either party wouldn’t be completely freaked out at first…my second child was a surprise to me and my husband and I spent the first trimester in denial so I have a little difficulty with the ‘okay, it’s fine’ aspect of the story here. I also would have liked an epilogue with baby and the life status of the couple and the events in the book to wrap everything up nicely.

I enjoyed this book it was an easy read to sit back and relax with. Lara is a doctor and Kane a paramedic, thiers is a romance which neither were really looking for, but both felt drawn into. Pure lust and getting drunk drives Lara to seek Kane out one night after a hard day in the ER. There is good chemistry between Lara and Kane, but both have a past which colours thier thoughts on what they saw themselves going to and you could feel the conflict they were having with thier feelings for each other and what they had thought was thier future.
This book is all about the need to communicate and the need to express one’s feelings. I think it is safe to say those two blue lines opened up so many doors that had been closed. It also opened up the hearts of Lara and Kane, and even Lara’s father who was in charge of the emergency department at Tasman Memorial Hospital.
This book also showed how hard it is for anyone to lose a parent, especially to breast cancer. Amazing that that little bundle of joy will also help to heal some hearts.
I am so glad Lara and Kane’s one night became so much more than her becoming pregnant. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
A lovely book with an entertaining storyline and filled with wonderful characters that I enjoyed reading about.

good book with interesting characters. Just a little drawn out. I liked that she was doctor and he a paramedic. I even liked that he was adopted and looking for his family. I would have liked it if he would have actually met his family in the book. And would have liked it if the baby had been born, and that we knew what it was.

I liked this story. Lara was having a very bad day in the Emergency Department. A new Paramedic was attracted to her and kept asking her out. She kept turning him down until one night she just needed the contact. He had just found out he was adopted and wanted to meet his birth family.. When she turned up pregnant, his plans had to change and he wanted them to. Both of them learned more about each other and found what was important to them. Lara found out her dad really did love her – he just didn’t know how to show her. Lots of emotional issues here and well worth the read.

The second book in the serie was as good as the first. Kane as a person and his involvement with Lara was enjoyable. I loved their bickering and their care for each other. I would have wanted a little more interaction with the siblings.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARCof this book.
Lara and Kane’s story was such a sweet romance to read. There were hints of pasts for each of them that were tragic, but the way the story developed had them facing their pasts to come together for their future. Beautiful story!
