Pure fun! Emergence is an excellent series kickoff and perfect for fans of paranormal romance seeking their next vampire fix. This story has all of the best ingredients: fast-paced action, snark, a kickass heroine with a sassy voice, and a swoon-worthy hero with bite. Heh heh. Couldn’t resist. The sexytimes are electric, off-the-charts smoldering, and Wren strikes enough of a balance between tough and vulnerable to make her super relatable.
Another one of my favorite things about this story is the vivid descriptions. I was immersed in every detail, from how Wren’s band looked and sounded to the smell of blood. Snappy one-liners, a bad guy cast of full fiends and scoundrels, and clever pop culture references round out an unforgettable addition to the genre.
You Mean . . . I’m Not the Only One?
I enjoyed the well-acted audio version, and can highly recommend it. Plenty of snark, humor, and action and, um, “undercover” action (in both senses) to go around in this fast-paced tale of discovery and revenge. BUT be aware you are signing on for the long haul. As the description warns you, there are five parts to this story and each ends in a cliff-hanger. But with that knowledge in front of you, there is plenty of meat into which to sink your teeth (okay, really bad vamp pun) and plenty to look forward to.
Wren was a child when her mother was killed. She she is on the hunt to kill all those involved with her mother’s murder. Along this path she meets a detective who wants to aid her in her vendetta, what does it gain him? But it requires others that are bonded to her. She meets the 1st of these in this book. And he is incarcerated, of all things……so jailbreak, running from the badguys, what is the detective up to? In this book you learn of the 2nd bonded at the end which sets you up for book 2. I particularly do not like cliffhangers, but it was a great story and can’t wait to read book 2. I recommend this book if you cn forgive the cliffhanger. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for an honest review.
My first reverse harem story by Mysti Parker and it’s awesome. I must admit, at first I was hesitant to try harem (or reverse harem, for that matter!) because I prefer one-man woman, and one-woman man kind of relationships. But authors Mysti and Lindsey Loucks made this paranormal romance exciting, fun and thrilling and got me hooked to this supernatural story that I forgot all about that harem-scarem-bitchem mentality that I was initially afraid of.
Wren, aka Melody Songsmith got a list of people that deserved her wrath and revenge. She wasn’t aware about other vampires except for her and her mom. The mom she never realized was the Queen of vampires. It was only when she met Zac and helped release another vampire (or more like, helped him escape) named Ashe did she finally learned about her true identity and her life just had just gotten more dangerous than ever.
Emergence, book 1 of the Sever the Crown series proved to be quite an interestingly fangs-tastic read. Sure, it ends with a cliffhanger and I’ve got no complaints although I can’t wait to sink my teeth on to the second book!!
Emergence by Lindsey R Loucks.
One rightful vampire queen. Five irresistible vampire men. Together, they’ll sever the crown – or maybe the traitor’s head that wears it.
Wren has a dark obsession—to find her mother’s murderers before they find her. Every new singing gig brings her closer to crossing their names from her list.
A good read with some good characters. I liked the story and I liked the cover. 4*.
I loved Emergence! The storyline has a lot of action, steam, mystery, and humor. Wren is my favorite kind of FMC. She’s a force to be reckoned with, determined to do whatever it takes to avenge her mother’s death. There’s a lot that she doesn’t know about her mother, the entire situation involving her death, and the people involved. It will be exciting to find out all the details as the story progresses and as she adds more to her harem.
Humans, vampires, secrets, missions, and truth’s to uncover. This book has it all. This collaboration between Mysti Parker and Lindsey R. Loucks brought a new take on the reverse harem romance. Wren, Ashe and Zac are well written in this story and you are brought into their world. Can’t wait to see how this series continues in Defiance.
AMAZING READ!!
I absolutely loved this book! Paranormal romance is my favorite genre so I was very excited for this one!!
Wren is amazing. I loved her! I started reading and didn’t want to stop. I got lost in this story and I can’t wait for book two.
I greatly recommend this book. Especially if you love paranormal romance.
Emergence by Lindsey R. Loucks and Mysti Parker is the first book in the Sever the Crown series. In this book, Wren is looking for the people who killed her mother Bronwen when she was very young. Once she tracks one of her mother’s murderers down she kills them. While tracking and killing one of these killers she meets a human male named Zac who wants to help her. He leads her to another vampire male named Ashe who has many of the answers about who she is and he will end up becoming very important to her. This book is very fast paced and is full of mystery, excitement, suspense, and romance. The main character Wren is very likeable, interesting, and unusual in the fact that she is very physically strong yet not so much emotionally. This book is set in a well organized is some what different vampire world set around and adjacent to the real human world. I really liked this book’s reality type setting which caused me to love this story. Emergence is a mysterious and suspenseful tale about vampires.
I love the sensibility of the writing style in this book. Wren is crossing the south to catch up with all the murderers of her beloved mother. When after one particularly nasty take down, she meets up with a real detective that wants to help her. Turns out she isn’t the only vampire around after all. This book has great world building and fun characters. I can’t wait for the next book.
Welcome to the newest paranormal vampire reverse harem romance by Mysti Parker and Lindsey R. Loucks. Prepare to be introduced to Wren aka Melody Songsmith…vampire on the prowl for those who killed her mother. Along the way she is going to be finding some things that she never thought she’d be finding, and learning that the truth is both closer to home than she thought and deeper than she could have imagined as danger begins to hunt her at every turn.
This book is so much fun! I am an avid fan and reader of Lindsey R. Loucks but I think that it is beyond safe to say that her team up with Mysti Parker is a hit with me! These two ladies came together and gave me a delicious combination of delightful characters. Wren is obvious to the fact that there are others like her, but she’s not that naïve/dummy about it. In my opinion, that is not easy to pull off. Haha! Most of the time you get that naïve “What do you mean there are others like me” attitude, but I was thrilled Wren doesn’t have that. I honestly don’t think I could have taken it. LOL! But I love that she acknowledges that while she is in the dark (pretty much literally) that she wasn’t silly enough to think that she was the only one. She’s not that educated, but I promise you you won’t be able to tell. She’s street smart, super talented, and OMG! I love her attitude about things! She doesn’t walk around with this “oh poor me” attitude. She’s more like “okay, the world dealt me a bad hand, but I got this.”
While this is Wren’s story it doesn’t focus solely on Wren. We get a couple of other characters as well. The authors introduce us to Ashe and Zac. The connection the authors draw between Ashe and Wren is quickly established, but they do a wonderful job creating the mystery around the wildcard that is Zac. Now, yes, this is a reverse harem novel, but it’s one that is a building in progress. I love the fact that it seems like not everyone is going to play nice. Yeah, I like the drama. LOL! If you are hoping for some steamy scenes…you will not be disappointed. I will say this though…beware the cliffhanger. LOL! I almost yowled when I thought there was more to come and then the story ends and the authors are like “here’s a teaser/tidbit for book 2 coming soon!”
I enjoyed this book to the fullest and so I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you love paranormal romance with vampires, a murdered queen, another who wishes to keep the power she stole, and a reverse harem in the building, and some steamy scenes then this is the book for you. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in this series. Bring it on!!
At the beginning of the book I wasn’t sure what to expect. By the end I needed the next book. The main character is Wren. She’s a vampire and can kick some major butt. She knows how to take care of herself and get her revenge. What she doesn’t know is that vampires are almost everywhere and there is more about her than she could ever guess. So she needs to stay alive and one step ahead of the bad guys if she wants answers. She will have help from two guys that couldn’t be anymore different. But their pasts are hidden in secrets too. Expect a lot of fighting, plenty of mystery and some hotness. I have a feeling the heat level is about to increase in the next book.
Wow if your looking for a Fantastic read with the Supernatural and you love humor this is definitely the read for you. This grabbed me right from the start to finish its a real page turner with lots of twists and turns. The Author has done a fantastic job at the world building and bringing out the characters. I definitely recommend this read.

I really enjoyed this book.
I can’t wait for more.
I will be recommending this book.
I have read a few of mysti’s but not lindsey’s
will be looking up more of their books.
This was a really great start to the series. I really enjoyed reading. Great storyline that is well written. The characters are well written and enjoyable. I didn’t want to put this book down. I highly recommend reading. (I received this book as an arc and am leaving a voluntary honest review)
Book One of this series begins with Wren aka Melody Songsmith is a vampire who was not aware their were other vampires in the world. Wren becomes aware of someone watching her a human after exacting revenge he tells her who she is and that he wants to help her but they have to get another vampire out of shifter prison. Then restore her to the throne. She is shocked to find out her mother was the Queen of the vampires but she protected her from them until she was caught and killed. Dectective Zac Palmer tells her plenty and convinces her to go with him to rescue Ashe. Just so happens along the way there is adventure, suspense and romance. I was given an Advance Reader Copy by the publisher without obligation. I am providing an honest review.
I am a longtime fan of the vampire genre, so I am always looking for the next great new book. However, I have to say that I didn’t realize that this book was a Reverse Harem book. I will try to review the book fairly even though I am definitely not a fan of RH books.
Wren is a vampire, working as a singer while trying to avenge her mother’s death. A “detective” named Zac comes to the club where she is working and tells her that she needs to go with him. So, she does (Huh?). The pair then proceed to break another vampire out of a vampire prison (why?).
Immediately, this vampire (Ash) and Wren are in instalust. I mean, their every encounter is full of thoughts about sex. Wren soon learns that she and Ash are mates and she has a mark on her wrist that indicates that she has a total of 5 mates.
The premise of the book was a good one. Wren was raised by her mother and is totally unaware that there are any other vampires in existence. She learns that her Mother was in fact the Queen of a vampire sector and she is the heir apparent. And, she has five mates.
The plot of the story had way too many holes in it and it definitely is part of an ongoing series. There is no resolution to any of the various events that occur in the book.
The book is full of way too much cursing IMHO and the F-bomb is freely dropped from the very beginning. I’m no prude, but enough is enough. Then, there is the constant sexual references and sex scenes. Again, I should have read the full description and realized that this was a RH book.
The narrator did a great job and her voices were perfect for the different characters. If you are a fan of vampires and reverse harems, you might enjoy this book, but I’ll pass on the rest of the series.

I don’t know really what to say about this audiobook, I’m on the fence. It’s well written and have a good pace, the characters are likable. The execution was good, but the story… It’s unremarkable that I felt like I was listening any other audiobook of the same genre (whychoose paranormal). There is nothing unique about the story, the character’s actions seem to came straight of high school. If it wasn’t for the love scenes, I would say it’s was a YA.
Melissa Schwairy did a good job with what she had in hands. I cringe a lot of times, but it wasn’t her fault really, she just follow the characters emotions and reactions. I would like a male narrator for the guy’s, but the narrator was able to do a different voice for each character.
