For some, love comes swiftly at first glance, for those most stubborn it can take a lifetime…Since birth Lady Ginevra has been betrothed to Lord Wolfram, second son to the Count of Whetshire. There was never any question as to whom she would marry or who she would be. Life has been mapped out for her and she’s going to live happily ever after as a Countess. However, there is one complication to … one complication to her plans. Her rogue of a future husband isn’t taking to their life together with open arms. In fact, he seems to enjoy finding reasons to put the nuptials off.
WARNING: This book spans the course of decades and deals with marital issues arising from an arranged marriage between two (practically) strangers that may be sensitive to some readers.
What Reviewers Are Saying…
“5 HEARTS! Ms. Pillow succeeded in bringing her words to life. This book breathes, screams, and compels you to finish it. This is a spectacular Epic story about love growing in spite of everything a love separated by duty, age, time and the very natures of Wolfe and Gin. This story captures your attention until you can no longer remember that Gin and Wolfe are characters instead of living souls. Awesome, do not miss!” Sara Sawyer, TRS, January 28, 2006
“4 1/2 Stars! …a beautifully crafted story.” Ecataromance

Wolfram (8) was pledged to marry Ginevra (baby) at any early age. They had times together while young, but then not until she turned 15 and they married. By then, he was popular with the ladies and not interested in her. Time flashes by and then they come together 3 years later. The characters and storyline were great and span a lot of time. Plenty of surprises, twists and intense emotions along the way. Hard to put down once you start reading.

Loved this book – one of the best I’ve read in a long time! The hero and the heroine faced many obstacles, loved that they were introduced to us as children and we watched them grow and develop. Romance, intrigue, battles, heroes, what more could you want? Didn’t want to put it down, sad when it ended. Loved this one!

Love these types of stories. Drama. Romance. Battles. Love. Honor. Villains. Heroes. All the good stuff. So Emerald Knight isn’t what you expect: Knight with emerald green eyes or armor or banner colors. No this is a Knight whose bride has emerald colored eyes and he finally realizes he’s in love. It takes a lot for these two betrothed to fall in love and their journey is an interesting one. It gives me a slight Robin Hood storytelling feel – the noble Knight fights for God, King and Country and gets captured only to return home to chaos. Fighting against the outlaws and “bad guys”, he finds himself a purpose. There are chapters that end on cliffhangers and thankfully they are revisited later with the outcome. It’s a bad case of commercial during a favorite program when you want to know happens next. Lovely feeling. Future Earl of Whetshire, Lord Knight Wolfram “Wolfe” and Lady Ginevra of Southaven make a wonderful story.

This is truly an emotional story, set in historical times. You will laugh and cry as you travel through life with these characters. Michelle M Pillow has done a wonderful job in creating this world and has given us believable characters.

Oh boy, this story is wonderful. You feel for the young Ginevre who is wed to the older Wolfram. Until she matures he goes away and not only does he conquer in tournaments but also with the ladies. When he returns she falls in love with him. He goes off to fight in a holy war. During this time so many things happen and I could not help but weep along with Ginevre as she waits for a wolf to return. When she thinks he’s dead it is so heartbreaking. The story wraps up in a climactic ending. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Michelle M. Pillow’s “Emerald Knight” is one of the authors earlier books. This is a beautiful love story that spans years, well meaning interfering relatives and many tribulations.
This is the story of a political alliance made with the birth of Lady Ginevra betrothed as an infant to Lord Wolfram, second son to the Count of Whetshire who is eight years her senior. I loved the interactions between Gin and Wolf as children.
I struggled with the parts of the story such as Wolfe being late For his own wedding because he was busy dallying with the maid and then rather spending his wedding night consummating his marriage, again he’s with a maid. But bear in mind he wasn’t interested in getting married anyway, he was doing his duty or was he?
I found the characters well developed and while I struggled with Wolfe in the beginning in the end he was the hero I expected. Gin was a woman of incredible strength and one to be admired. The problem between them was always miscommunication or lack of which led to frustrations and misunderstandings. Once these two actually opened up about their feelings and emotions, realizing they do love one another after all this beautiful love story unfolds.
The writing was well done though I found a a few places where the wrong word was used or misspelled I wasn’t distracted from the story. There was an instance or two where I felt a modern phrase was used but again this is one of the authors first books. That being said, I still loved the book! I look forward to reading more of the authors medical stories.
Her research was well done and I think her characterizations were accurate for the time period. I laughed, I cried and felt the emotions that ran through the story. As a sidenote, I’ve read many of her latest books and enjoy her writing style and stories.
Thank you so much Ms. Pillow for the beautiful love story. I look forward to reading more of your medieval books.
Emotional roller-coaster filled with witty and engaging charters, heart racing twists and thrilling turns. An edge of your seat, action packed read from beginning to end and so hard to put down.
kind of hated it !!! like some parts… really hated Wolfe !!! Gin ? the story is long and kind of disjointed…

Ginevra and Wolfram were betrothed as kids; Wolfram is not really on board with the whole thing, so he acts horribly. Wolfram sucks as a hero; being a butthead and a cheater being a couple of issues, so I just didn’t enjoy this read mainly because of him. I don’t care if the marriage is arranged; cheating is a no-no, if you weren’t going to be a decent person to your wife, then you should’ve manned up and not gotten married. I just overall didn’t like the vibe to this story and its characters. I’m probably just not really a fan of historical type romances. This just wasn’t for me.
4.5 Stars
Once again, Michelle M. Pillow manages to captivate with this historical romance filled with well written characters that will keep you rooting for them and a story line is engaging.

Ok it’s no secret that I loved the Dragon Lords series by this author so I’ve been trying to give her other books a go. This one is apparently one of her earlier releases but as historical romance has recently taken screens by storm with Outlander and more recently Bridgerton I was keen to see if this would entertain me.
I wavered at times between laughing at Gin and wanting to shake my head at her. However she’s a product of her times I guess and clearly a spoiled child although her absolute innocence was laughable because I’m pretty sure with animals and livestock she would know about what constitutes consumption when it comes to marriage ! Wolfe was just unlikeable and his frequent ahem dalliances even on his wedding night didn’t help. I won’t elaborate what happens but this couple frequently have misunderstandings that made this reader feel like banging their heads together. Their antics as children were charming but as adults they just made me wish I hadn’t started this book. Sadly not my favourite book by this author but as I originally stated it’s an older book and I know authors and their writing often matures so I will continue with her more recent series.
This is a voluntary take on a copy I requested.
Historical romance books are really not my cup of tea but with this author, there is an exception. I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down. I was sucked into the story and the characters came to life. This book is a must read!

Whetshire Fortress, Wessex, 1171 A.D. Lady Ginevra has been betrothed to Lord Wolfram, second son to the Count of Whetshire since birth. But Wolf does not want to do it. I enjoyed seeing their story come together with all of its twists and turns, there is suspense, drama, danger, a villain, and romance. I found the story to be well worth reading and I would recommend. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Emerald Knight is a standalone novel by Michelle M. Pillow.
This is a Medieval Historical Romance. I normally do not read historical romances, but I have been trying to expand my likes. So I gave this a go.
Ginevra and Wolfram was betrothed with each other for political reasons. The Earl of Whetshire and Baron Southaven wanted this joining.
Wolfram is much older than Ginevra, so he did not really see her much rather than a nuisance. Throughout their lives, their interactions were limited and with Wolfram not taking their engagement and later on marriage seriously, Ginevra was not expecting much from her husband.
This was a very lengthy book with a lot of details. The story is a slow burn with how the story progresses. This was different from what I normally read and it took me a minute to understand the language. Overall, I think that this was a very interesting book.

I usually enjoy Michelle’s books and loved her previous two medieval novels but I did not think this was up to that standard. It was too long and convoluted and the ‘hero’ was a totally unlikeable, beastly and philandering monster. This is not always a bad thing but in this case it didn’t work for me.

The interaction and chemistry between the characters, along with the details on character development as they got older was great. Describing the scenes and the characters emotions and the how/why of said emotions without over doing it, was amazing! I loved this book, I couldn’t wait to see what would be said or done next.
While I loved the story, I felt that there was too much time spent apart. How could Gin fall in love with such an inconsistent man when she spent no time with him? The time they did spend together was spent with misunderstandings between them. Even so, there were a lot of entertaining parts and it kept me reading until the end.

Lady Ginevra-Gin – and Lord Wolfram-Wolf – have been engaged since Ginevra’s birth. The interaction between both children is described very well and entertaining in the beginning of the story. When the big day comes, Wolf decides not to consumate the marriage, partly under the influence of his good friend, Ginevra’s brother. What he does decide to do leaves a nasty taste with Gin and the reader.
Years later they meet again at a tournament. Wolf is now quite impressed with his wife. Yet he cannot stay with her because he has made a promise to join the Crusades. Ginevra is left alone again and years later, when Wolf returns, it becomes a difficult but eventually happy reunion. Wolf is not necessarily a pleasant man, probably a man of his time. Do I think Wolf should be more remorseful and considerate after his dealings with Gin? Yes I think so. But would it also be a more pleasant book? I do not know. Because no matter how indignant I am about Wolf’s behavior, no matter how much time and misunderstandings pass between the two, I think it’s a good book. Nice structure, nice writing style, exciting, romantic and well-described emotions.

I enjoyed this book. Michelle M. Pillow does an awesome job of making you feel the pain Ginevra goes through when she thinks Wolfram is dead. I love how strong Ginevera was even when she was in so much pain. I love how the as the story progresses you can see how they start to love and trust each other. This was a very interesting book and I loved reading it. I felt Ginevra emotions along with Wolfram’s when he didn’t think she loved him.

Opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
This book does have numerous instances of ADULT cheating by Wolfe in it. I have mixed feelings about this, but realize it was common since men had all the power in those days.
The book spans a long time period of many years. The relationship between Wolfe and Ginevra was stupid and frustrating at times, and her shrewishness got OLD . There was one situation after another created by the author where the two would fight and then have hate s* x.
Not my kind of story. There were parts of it that were illogical and frustrating, although some of it was quite emotional. It seemed to go on and on, like the author couldn’t come up with an ending. Both characters were unlikable most of the time!
