A very inspirational story full of wonderful characters that we have met in the previous books in the series. You can read each book on it’s own but because of spoilers the series is best read in order.
I loved it.
I love Regency Romance. It’s a favorite sub-genre and I’ve probably written hundreds of reviews (literally: I review a lot) on Regency tales I’ve enjoyed. Yet somehow I totally missed Alexa Aston. Pretty surprising considering just how many books she’s written in this sub-genre. In fact, I only discovered her because of her first non-Regency series, Hollywood Name Game (highly recommended, by the way). Well, I loved that so of course had to try her The St. Clairs series of Regency tales. Well, now (thanks to having Kindle Unlimited) I’ve poured through all of these, starting with Jeremy snd Catherine’s story in Devoted to the Duke (Book 1) through the last in the series, Suddenly a St. Clair (Book 5). All I can say is that each of these was just perfect. Period appropriate (a requirement for me to really enjoy a Regency) with wonderfully crafted characters and a truly enjoyable and interesting plot. Each book had it all. Totally fun to read, I am more than happy to highly recommend each of these wonderful stories, and am definitely looking forward to reading this author’s other Regency romances.
Luke St. Clair, Earl of Mayfield, is tired of the life of mistresses; his carefree and empty lifestyle. He wants what his siblings have found, a wonderful spouse and a house full of children. But just how does he go about finding the right woman to fill his life. Lady Caroline Andrews loses her cherished sister, her mother suffering from illness is besides herself, and her father could care less. He is more interested in gambling, drinking and his many mistresses. Then he decided to send Caroline and her mother to America to stay with his sister. Only one problem, Caroline never knew he had a sister, much less knew that he had sent her away because he did not like the American Sea Captain that she married. Alexa has provided an interesting tale of Luke and Caroline, finding each other; plenty of problems develop along their way to keep you turning the pages. What a wonderful and interesting read.
Honestly I can say I have never read a book by Tammy Andresen that I did not love!! She creates the most wonderful characters that grab you from the start and fills her stories with humor, suspense, romance and everything needed to have a perfect historical romance!
Lord Barrett Maddox is overwhelmed. Left to handle the duties and paperwork while acting as the stand in Duke while his father is away. He only wanted to make his father proud but it was a little overwhelming!
Emily Mayweather had lost everything when her father, a distant relative of Bar’s father, passed away. Leaving her with a pile of debt, she wrote the Duke in hopes he could help her figure out what to do. But when his son lands on her doorstep with his handsome, irresistible, arrogant self, she tries to push him away.
There is a history between these two. A simmering attraction since they were younger that might just burst into flames at any moment! But Bar has his future planned, or so he thinks until he sees that Emily is even now more beautiful that before.
A fast paced story, with lively banter and humor as well as some other elements that will keep you reading until the end! Loved it and cannot wait for more!
