Who knew that the first day at a new school could be deadly?Embassy Academy, the elite private boarding school I’m being shipped off to wasn’t made for girls like me. Girls who are timid wallflowers. It was made for bold, outspoken, cultured kids of the political elite. Rich. Privileged. Condescending.Except for Ricardo, who looks at me like I’m a new flavor of ice cream he’d like to try, despite … a new flavor of ice cream he’d like to try, despite my cute bodyguard’s disapproving stare. If only bratty girls and cute boys were my biggest problem.
When the academy’s resident mean girl is killed on my very first day, their shimmering oasis becomes a pool of blood. The whispering gets louder. Quick glances become hard stares.
They’re looking for someone to blame. They’re looking at me.
Embassy Academy: Deadly First Day is the first in a trilogy of young adult romantic mysteries.

Embassy Academy: Deadly First Day by Emily Kazmierski is a wonderful story to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series written by a brand new author for me to read. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading abut romance and mysteries.

I don’t remember how I came to borrow this on KU, but it was a fun read. There were a few things I didn’t love, but it turned into a book I didn’t want to put down.
It would have been nice to see a stronger main character. Adrienne was a bit of a doormat to her father, and the insta-family was a bit much. The book needs chapter breaks. We would be in one situation and then we’re thrown into another situation with no sort of warning which was confusing but an easy fix.
I liked that the book started with a murder and that Adrienne didn’t sit idly by. Kazmierski did a good job of keeping the reader guessing. While I figured it out about 3/4’s in, I had no idea until then, and that made the guessing fun. I also liked the various love interests that were happening for Adrienne and Charlotte. I think Charlotte could play a bigger role in future books. I’m looking forward to the release of book 2.
Our heroine is a bit of a fish out of water. While her father is a powerful politician, she tries to avoid all that which makes her stand out at her new academy and the perfect patsy when a classmate ends up dead.
This is the start of a young adult academy mystery series. I love the spying and mystery but am so-so on academy stories, so I wasn’t sure how this one would turn out. My answer: quite well. I found the story to be well written and easy to read with a cast of interesting and fun characters. Many of them are very stereotypical of what you would expect in an academy story, but there were some fresh faces as well which provided a welcome bit of variety. I really liked our heroine and how she stood out from the crowd, not like the snooty classmates. The mystery also had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing which made the story for me. Overall, a very enjoyable read.
Highly recommended.

So this is off to a great start! A well written story that is fast paced and will keep you hooked and on your toes! The author has done a fab job laying the groundwork and the characters are realistic and I am enjoying watching them grow and develop. Twists and turns and romance and suspense makes this a very interesting read and I look forward to reading the next book!
It is Adrienne’s first year at Embassy Academy, and this school is definitely not what she’s expecting. Trying to live up to her senator father’s strict expectations and navigating a class of spoiled, devious, intelligent political kids, she thought she knew what she was getting into. She just didn’t know one of them would be deadly as well. Soon she’s caught in the middle of a murder investigation, following classmates in dark, and trusting everyone and no one.
Adrienne is really likable. She’s not your stereotypical “pretty” girl. She loves to bake. She carries around pans and has her own unique style. I love how wide-eyed and innocent she was next to all the politicians’ kids. Her friendship that she forms with her half-sis Charlotte is fun as well, aside from a few bumps in the road. I felt my heart pounding when Adrienne is suspected of the crime, when she throws herself into dangerous situations.
My favorite character was her flirtatious classmate Ricardo. He reads the most like a high school boy, and he’s honestly just sweet as all get out. A precious boy that I loved with my whole heart and I shipped Adrienne with the entire time. Her other love interest that she goes back and forth between is her and Charlotte’s bodyguard Mikhail. He’s just kind of there. The reader sees tiny peeks into what may actually be a person, but not enough to make me care.
Like a good mystery, there were a lot of suspects. I went around in circles a lot trying to figure it out. Most of the clues pointed to one person, and one clue in particular tipped me off to the perpetrator toward the beginning. The climax wrapped up quickly after a long, fast bullet train to the final reveal of the book.
Overall, Adrienne was sweet. I liked her development as a character. The mystery had interest to it, and the writing flowed. Definitely would recommend!

“Who’s Mikhail?” I call as I rush to follow her, averting my eyes to avoid the smiling faces in the vacation photos.
“He’s my driver slash bodyguard.”
“You have a bodyguard?”
This one was rather cute. Flawlessly executed Young Adult spy story.
I missed the depth in character development, but all in all, I loved it!
