When George Klein was an eighth grader at Humes High, he couldn’t have known how important the new kid with the guitar—the boy named Elvis—would later become in his life. But from the first time GK (as he was nicknamed by Elvis) heard this kid sing, he knew that Elvis Presley was someone extraordinary. During Elvis’s rise to fame and throughout the wild swirl of his remarkable life, Klein was a … a steady presence and one of Elvis’s closest and most loyal friends until his untimely death in 1977.
In Elvis: My Best Man, a heartfelt, entertaining, and long-awaited contribution to our understanding of Elvis Presley and the early days of rock ’n’ roll, George Klein writes with great affection for the friend he knew—about who the King of Rock ’n’ Roll really was and how he acted when the stage lights were off. This fascinating chronicle of boundary-breaking and music-making through one of the most intriguing and dynamic stretches of American history overflows with insights and anecdotes from someone who was in the middle of it all. From the good times at Graceland to hanging out with Hollywood stars to butting heads with Elvis’s iron-handed manager, Colonel Tom Parker, to making sure that Elvis’s legacy is fittingly honored, GK was a true friend of the King and a trailblazer in the music industry in his own right.

Interesting life and so generous.
Loved getting a behind the scenes look at this beautiful, talented gorgeous man.
Brought to life how tight the boundaries were for stars during this period. Loved the loyalty shown by Elvis’s inner circle even at the expended of their poor girlfriends. Great read!!
At 75 years old, still an Elvis fan. Nuff said. Couldn’t put it down. I feel bad for Pricilla but life is what it is. The book was written in an honest forthright way by a close friend so I tend to believe it was factual.
I thought this was a good book
A lot I didn’t know…..
Love Elvis and George Klein. Very interesting read!!!
I am an old fan of Ellvis. This lets people see the background of an interestring life.
Of course you do know the outcome of the book but it was interesting to get a inside view of Elvis. It is amazing to live that lifestyle but it was heartwarming to see how generous Elvis could be.
Got to know Elvis better and know what his singing career was like. I don’t think he had to right career builder to promote his songs and dance.
a “Must Read” for all Elvis fans!
If you’re an Elvis fan you will want to read this book. It’s an eye-witness account of much of Elvis’ life, told with love and respect. George Klein (GK) is featured on Elvis Radio (XM Satellite Radio) and always has good stories about Elvis. Very enjoyable book!
Elvis was not one of my favorites. The book was easy to get into.
If you are an Elvis fan, this is a must read.
I feel that since George and Elvis had been friends for so many years and their friendship has bees steadfast through it all, it was no doubt the truest picture you will ever get of Elvis. I enjoyed every page of it. Having lived in Memphis during the time he was still married to Pricilla and the time of his death, everyone had an Elvis story. My impression of him was a man who loved his family, his friends and his Memphis.
I learned a lot about Elvis that I didn’t know. Perhaps I understand him better than I did.
I liked it since I was living in Memphis when most of this happened. Elvis’ life should have been longer if his friends and associates had intervened instead of depending on Dr. Nick (in my opinion); perhaps Elvis was not meant to live to be an old man like some of our other famous people who died young.
Just another book about Elvis! At least this guy concentrated on all the good things Elvis did and not just the way he turned out in the end!
Grew up during the Elvis years and to read an account by a close friend helped my respect for what he went through. Good read.
I have been reading this book. The stories of the life of Elvis is a true account of his life, and interactions with his family and true friends. If you want to read a story that gives a real look at the man Elvis was, read this book by a long time friend. It is a good read. I gave it 5 stars because of how well it is writtem.
It was awful.
