Welcome to Hathaway House, a heartwarming military romance series from USA TODAY best-selling author Dale Mayer. Here you’ll meet a whole new group of friends, along with a few favorite characters from Heroes for Hire. Instead of action, you’ll find emotion. Instead of suspense, you’ll find healing. Instead of romance, … oh, wait. … There is romance—of course!Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab … Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.
Former Navy SEAL Elliot Carver came to Hathaway House to get help with the lingering repercussions of a mission gone bad. His body is dealing with the physical trauma of a spinal cord injury, while his mind is caught in a loop of painful memories that he can’t sideline, and both won’t let him heal the way he’d like.
Former ER Nurse Sicily Lawrence has just made her way out of a difficult relationship, and the quietness of the night shift at Hathaway House gives her peace of mind. The last thing she needs is to get involved in another volatile union. But she has seen injuries like Elliot’s before, and she knows that a certain type of therapy can help. One Elliot isn’t interested in trying.
Now, for Elliot’s sake, Sicily must push him toward the progress he needs, even it means losing him. And, with time and luck, maybe they can cross the hurdle and find each other at Hathaway House.

I enjoyed the entire Hathaway House Series of books. I highly recommend them. All 5 star, inspirational reads of physical and emotional healing.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a fabulous addition to the series. I love reading about these wounded warriors who in their time of time of healing find the love of their lives. This story is no different. Former Navy SEAL Elliot Carver has suffered horrific back injuries that make it difficult to sleep. Plus he suffers from PTSD nightmares about the incident that injured him and killed his friend. Sicily Lawrence is a former ER nurse who works the 3rd shift at Hathaway House. She escaped her life in Detroit and the harried pace in the ER for the much simpler life at Hathaway in Texas. After working 5 years there on the 3rd shift, she encounters Elliot. Between his muscle spams and nightmares keeping him awake at night, the two become more friends than patient and nurse.
Elliot and Sicily have a journey in front of them that was wonderful to read. There were some really great and poignant moments between these two. I enjoyed the dual POV format that this was written in. I really felt drawn to Elliot as I was reading his inner most thoughts.
This is a sweet, clean romance about an injured war veteran and a deeply compassionate, heart-of-gold nurse. Prior characters make appearance in this story and while it can be a stand-alone, I would recommend reading the prior stories. They are all wonderful just like this one.
Every time I start a book in this series, I am taken by the beauty and serenity portrayed in the property. The perfect setting for rehab and new beginnings for folks who manage to get a bed here. I really love that the Veterinarian Clinic and Shelter is there, animals are great helpers in the healing process and they also get the love and attention they need.
Elliot is one of the fortunate ones admitted to Hathaway House. A former SEAL his injuries go beyond the physical, he has some extreme PTSD nightmares that have him waking every night. This causes such exhaustion he can’t function, let alone do the physical therapy.
The staff is very creative though and Sicily his night nurse keeps trying to come up with ways to help him sleep. One thing that seems to work is a massage to relieve the cramping muscles of his back. She has an idea that the hot tub could help as well and approaches Dani about that as well as the possibility of Equine Therapy. Unfortunately Dani has been unsuccessful in finding the right resource for it. Sicily takes on the project of finding someone close and qualified.
In helping Elliot find the rest he needs, Sicily finds herself developing a close friendship with him. While Elliot hopes that their friendship might turn into more, he also recognizes the things he needs to accomplish and those he needs to conquer.
A complicated relationship develops, one where Elliot is challenged at every turn to do more and better, until the final straw. The Equine Therapy is a definite no for him even though he agrees to watch others do it and after all the work Sicily put into to find someone, she is hurt that he won’t try, but also recognizes the benefits for some of the other patients.
I mean seriously, Dani wouldn’t bring something in that would only benefit one person.
I enjoyed every single page of this book. While every man in this series has different issues, Elliot is by far the most unique of the bunch. I cheered and sniffled with every hurdle he conquers. Even as Sicily discovers a hurdle or two she needs to address as well.
Love these two together, and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
Overcoming
In Elliott, Book 5 of the Hathaway House series, we experience what can happen when the physical healing can be impeded by fears still embedded in the mind. Elliot’s need for sleep when his thoughts just won’t take a break makes it difficult for him to unearth and process buried fears that date not only back to his current physical condition, but also to a trauma he experienced as a child. When a new therapy meant to be a fun diversion for some patients brings to the forefront Elliot’s childhood memory, he is forced to finally face it after almost losing an important relationship because of it. While he still feels it, he is able to find a first step to recognizing his fear and then to share it, opening an avenue to work through his emotional issues and complement the work he has done and will continue to do to be completely healed.
A great story this series is really getting better with each book. Each of the patients at Hathaway House enters with severe medical and some emotional concerns. The staffs goal is to help each and every person. This book is no different Elliot has severe back pain he needs either crutches or a wheelchair to get around he also has PTSD. Sicily has been quite content working as a nurse doing the evening shift until she and a Elliot meet and a definite chemistry is there. Sicily and the staff work at helping Elliot get through his issues and the two of them form a bond.
Another Great Story!
A low key, but very enjoyable story in the Hathaway House! This story focuses on recognizing and dealing with a person’s fears and insecurities along with the healing and emotional support that is needed. It has a subtle way of helping people cope with all sorts of struggles without judgment or criticism.
I was interested in the different ways Elliott’s therapists treated his symptoms and pain as well as his insomnia. Their unique way to help without damaging a person’s trust or sense of well-being keeps the patients progressing in their recovery. Elliott has obstacles to overcome and Sicily is always ready to help.
I felt a lot of joy for Elliott when he decides to get closer to the horses that are brought in for therapy and his relief at this small accomplishment. I found that if you see this in terms of the deep-seated fear some people have of horses, just getting close to one can be overwhelming and given the encouragement Elliott is given, he makes major strides in his overall recovery.
Sicily and Elliott have a slow but steady bond growing between them. Each recognizes that they are ready for major changes in their lives and are eager to see what the future holds.
This is an amazing story that is a very sincere adventure of trust and hope. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! I loved it!
Elliot is a Seal albeit a hurt one, dangerously hurt. PTSD is very debilitating. it is an unseen psychosis, that can turn your life upside down as well as those around you. He is healing from his multiple surgeries but he isn’t really getting better. He can’t sleep which is debilitating in itself and hinders the healing process. The nightmares reliving the bombing undoes all the physical therapy meant to help his healing. He holds out hope that Hathaway House will help him like it has some of his Seal buddies.
Sicily has been at Hathaway House for 5 yrs doing her own healing in her own way working as an RN treating and caring for the wounded warriors. Can she not only help herself to heal but Elliot as well?
That’s all I will say as I will not do spoilers. This is another great heartwarming story of hard work and dedication.

I enjoyed this heartwarming and emotional read with great characters and a beautifully written story that kept me glued to the book from beginning to end. I loved the attraction and dynamic between former Navy Seal Elliot Carver who has a spinal cord injury and PTSD and nurse Sicily Lawrence. Ms. Mayer has given us another winner in her must-read Hathaway House Heartwarming series and I look forward to reading Finn’s story in book six. I received an advance reader copy of this book from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This book was another awesome book in the Hathaway House Series. I loved the story line and how the characters interact with each other. I love how Dale has written a different story for each of the characters in the series. The way the characters are explained makes this series seem like it could be a place that is real that Dale is writing about. The trials and tribulations the characters go through and face are so real and the way the characters face their “demons” is so lifelike. I love how the series is based on war vets and that they are well taken care of in the books, unlike a lot of them in real life. Makes you stop and wonder why we don’t do more for our vets. The stories that are told in these books seem like they are written from real life characters and I love each and every one! If you like a book that has trials, tribulations, a bit of romance and a lot of extra love given to our vets, then this is a book for you.
Thanks Dale for another awesome book in this series.

Elliot by Dale Mayer
Hathaway House Series Book Five
Elliot Carver was finally at Hathaway House but he isn’t improving, or so it feels that way. The nightmares seem as bad as before. Keeping him awake and too tired to work on his back to strengthen and heal it.
Sicily works the night shift. Usually, her patients mostly sleep, until Elliot. Spending so many nights with him being awake has created a bond. A bond she’s never had with another patient.
These injured heroes really grab my heart and make for a page-turning book. I really enjoy this series.

Every book in this series just keeps getting better and better. Elliot has stolen my heart and is my new favorite book. This is a book for everyone. I know you will love Elliot as much as I do. One click now.
I am loving this series so much and the paperbacks are looking so pretty on my bookshelf. As always an excellent book. I loved Elliot and I could just feel his pain and turmoil rolling off the page as I turned each one to find out what happened next. This series is about a ranch owned by a father and daughter. Dani and The major after the Major has some health worries and wanted to help others. We have seen 4 strong, capable but broken men find the life and live they need whilst overcoming their injuries and mental health. Sicily is a night nurse at Hathaway and is enjoying the work but feels a real bond to Elliot whom she feels is alone and needs friends. As time passes and their relationship moves forward it’s clear that Elliott needs to look at the past to have a happy future. Will Elliot be able to face his fears???? Will Sicily be able to move forward despite what others are saying???? This was an awesome read and you could just feel Elliot’s pain radiating from the pages as well as Sicily’s emotions. I am so looking forward to Finns story.
Elliot is dealing with multiple problems and finding the root cause is not easy, that will be his major breakthrough. Sicily is supportive and helps however she can even if only to help him get some much needed sleep. All the guys are broken in different ways in this fabulous series, genuine issues due to their service and injuries, the magic of Hathaway House helps to heal them and even those they connect too, including the animals. There should be places like this for real maybe there would be more healing in the world of injured vets or those struggling with serious injuries from accidents. I love sinking into one of these books and not emerging again until I’ve finished reading, the flow is steady the plot interesting, the scenery sounds amazing. Loved it.
