Once upon a time, a handsome prince asked the academy wallflower to the ball. She was blinded by the stars in her own eyes and the pitter-patter of her lonely heart. Little did she know this prince was no prince at all, but a villain disguised behind a charming smile.EllaThere are no such things as fairy tales or happily ever afters. Not in my world. My reality is riddled with pain and loss and … is riddled with pain and loss and immense hatred.
Until him.
Trayton Nacht, the new transfer student at Darlington Academy.
Something about his darkness calls to me. The way his eyes glimmer in the night and the cruelty of his handsome smile.
With a single glance, he turned my world inside out. And now I can’t get enough.
But what if he’s just like the rest of them? What if this is all just another masquerade?
Tray
She stole my heart, once upon a time. Three years ago in an alley where she left me with a pair of sodden blue slippers.
Her life had been mine for the taking, until I discovered the fae magic lurking beneath her skin. Now it’s time to recruit her, to take her to her fate.
But first, we’ll play a little game.
One that will end in destruction.
Because f*ck fairy godmothers.
What Ella needs is a Dark Fae.
One who can help her burn Darlington Academy to the ground.
A Dark Fae like me.
Author Note: This is a dark Cinderella retelling with strong bully elements. This M/F PNR features a happily ever after ending and is also the prequel to the Midnight Fae Academy Why Choose Trilogy. Tray and Ella are important characters throughout the series.

Adored this so much. Can I just say yum? I can’t wait to read Midnight Fae Academy next!
While this story is definitely based on the Cinderella fairytale, there is also very much a 10 Things I Hate About You vibe to it, and a very deliciously dark fae, magical twist to it. Ella and Tray’s relationship definitely starts off on a rocky foot, given Ella’s history with bullies and needing to protect herself, but when they finally get past all the mistrust, their relationship sizzles in every way possible. I probably took a little too much joy in the payback and revenge, but it was all so much fun to read. And the dynamic between Ella and Tray is fantastic, her snark and sass to his alpha, cocky ego; but underneath it all, we get her vulnerability, and his need to protect and support her, it what makes them such a great couple in the end.
If that’s the prequel, I definitely can’t wait to read the rest of the series! Ella is a fantastic character, getting bullied by the whole school lead by her evil step sisters doesn’t keep her down. She is one strong woman and finds not only love, but vengeance, and a family legacy she didn’t know existed. This was a fantastic read, Lexi C. Foss did an incredible job and I look forward to reading more in this series!
After becoming completely addicted to both ‘Elemental Fae Academy’ and ‘Midnight Fae Academy’ I always jump at the chance to read anything to do with this world.
‘Ella’s Masquerade’ is the prequel to ‘Midnight Fae Academy’ and starts out with a very fairy tale vibe mixed in with some bullying, being a fun, modern twist on Cinderella.
Continuity between this book and the Midnight Fae Academy trilogy is on point. Even though we all know how Cinderella pans out, this is still super fun to see through … and satisfying as Ella and Trey turn the tables on some bullies.
For anyone looking for another scrap of the Midnight Fae world, I’d recommend this book. I’d recommend it to anyone else as well. It does a great job of straddling both this and the human world and blending magic into reality.
The epilogue of ‘Ella’s Masquerade’ has a nice lead-in to ‘Midnight Fae Academy, Book 1’ but can be read before or after it. I recommend all the books in this world you can get your hands on!
Overall:
4 stars
Note:
I listened to the audiobook.
The female narrator took a bit of getting used to; she has a high-pitched voice and speaks in a sort of slow, patronizing tone. I expect she might be very well-suited to children’s narrations. Not unpleasant—just not my first choice for an adult read.
The male has a very pleasant voice, and smooth manner of reading; I found myself wishing he’d narrated the entire book alone. (I normally do like dual narrations, but am picky about voice and reading style.)
Overall well done. Though I might opt for the ebook next time I come across the female narrator in this instance.
AUDIOBOOK Review
Once again Lexi C Foss managed to make me love her story and characters, she’s my favourite author when it comes to this genre, and she doesn’t disappoint with this book.
I loved Tray and Ella, even though at the beginning Tray behaviour made want to make him see some sense, because he wasn’t doing things right towards Ella. But I like that things change pretty fast and everything got into place for things to workout perfect for both of them.
Ella was amazing, she’s strong and despite all she endured she never gave up and and I am so glad she got her HEA with Tray.
The story flows perfect, it’s a little bit of a Cinderella retelling but instead of a Faerie Godmother we got a wonderful Fae.
The narration was really good. It’s my first time listening to Kirt Graves and he did a great job with the performance. Lessa Lamb was perfect, she’s fast becoming one of my favourite narrators, she really brings the characters to live and I love her performance.
Wow Wow Wow, I recently discovered Lexi Foss’s work and the more I read(listen) the more I am in love with her work. The world she built in this book is amazing and so unique. The story will immediately suck you in and before you know it, its the end. This plays on both of my book loves, the paranormal and bully theme. Lessa Lamb was the perfect Ella and Kirt Graves was the perfect Trayton! Well done and Highly recommend.
I received an ALC from Pink Flamingo Productions
nice new twist on a classic Cinderella story… who knew evil could look so good… I think I’ve found a new author to stalk!
This book was awesome! I really enjoyed all the feels and the plot line was on point. I can’t wait until I can dive back into this world.
This book is amazing. The best retelling of Cinderella I have ever read. Ella is very relatable with being bullied and not trusting others with how they seem to be instead thinking they are always hiding something. I love the vivid details in this book it just feels so real like you’re in the book. I highly recommend this book.
Wow this book is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster, I cried, laughed, screamed and felt all the feels. Ella breaks your heart but by the end you adore her and Tray. Can’t wait to read more in this series.
I really don’t like bullies, and I was with Tray on how to deal with Ella’s. I was glad to see one of them had some good in them. It was fun when Ella first used her powers. This was a great book, fast-paced and entertaining.
For most kids high school is an experience that we remember forever, whether for the good or the bad.
Ella’s experiences at high school went South the minute she went to her first freshman formal. Since that night she’s always kept to herself and learned to not engage the bullies as it just gives them the satisfaction of knowing they are getting to her. All she has to do is keep her head down and make it to graduations and she’ll finally be free.
At least that’s the plan until she meets the new transfer student.
Trayton Nacht. He’s got a darkness about him that Ella just can’t seem to put her finger on. He’s handsome and for some reason enjoys pushing her buttons.
Trayton has ulterior motives for transferring to Darlington Academy. 3 years before a girl stole his heart and left him with no name and a curiosity that had him determined to find her again. However, after he finally learns who she is the life she’s survived he’s determined to see her come into the powers that she should’ve come into as well as get the revenge she needs against anyone and everyone who bullied or turned a blind eye.
I really enjoyed reading this one. I’m kind of sad that the book that follows this one is a reverse harem, it’s just not really my thing. But who knows, maybe one day I’ll follow up and read it. I will say one thing I would’ve liked to have seen is a more bloody revenge.
Ella and Trey’s Fae romance is unpredictable and hot. A unique, retelling of Cinderella complete with evil step sisters, a sinister step-mother and an ill-fated ball This prequel takes on a sexy, dark spin to the classic story that left me breathless. A great start to the Midnight Fae Academy series!
If you loved Patch in Hush, Hush or read Twilight wishing it were NA so there could be steamy sex scenes then Ella and Tray’s story is for you. The voice flows smoothly and the plot and characters are captivating. My only warning is that one scene is of a mild sexual assault which may upset some readers.
4 out of 5 stars
Ella has been bullied through out her whole life, high school is no different. She has two step sisters that seem to lead the cool kids in the private school and are her worst tormentors . Until the day Tray walks into school , he is so sexy and just the right amount of boyish charm and a glimmer in his eye that would make any girl in school melt . He has one mission in his life is to get the girl he ran into three years ago to fall for him and come into the magic that she has hidden deep inside . The dark fae that lies in her heart and then they together can bring down the school.
This book is the retelling of Cinderella with a fae twist . Ella is the shy stepsister that is the heroine of the story , she is constantly being bullied and she just wants to get away . She is stronger then she lets on but just doesn’t know how to fight back . When she meets Tray she blossoms and finds out what she truly is . Tray well my goodness he is just like sex on a stick and has a way that will melt the panties off any girl he wants . There is more to him then meets the eye . He wants to be with Ella and help her and they fall in love and they are so adorable together . So for every good guy we have the evil counter parts and the kids of the academy are those . They are evil to the tenth power .
This is a great retelling of the Cinderella story . The story is well written and the characters are wonderfully written . There are some great twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat . There are times i have trouble with the retelling of fairy tales but this author has done a great job . This book will give you all the feels , there were moments that i actually teared up and felt for the main characters . The great part is that it is also a book with Fae sub story line . So if you want a good book to keep you sane during your isolation check it out ,
HOT
Oh. My. STARS! Is it hot in here, or is it just me? This book had me ensnared from the first chapter to the end, I just purchased the next two in this series. The revenge is deliciously sweet and I am still fanning myself from the chemistry and sex. Wow.
Positively devilish! A dark seductive take on the classic Cinderella story that was original and highly entertaining. The perfect revenge tale that tapped into my wicked side!
Well that was a bit different! Ella just wants to make it to graduation but her step sisters are determined to make her life hell at school. A handsome fae prince convinces her to give them a taste of their own medicine though. It’s revenge with a bit of morals. There is explicit adult content.
I love the Elemental Fae Academy series ( as I love all of Lexie Foss’s books) but Ella’s Masquerade is the prequel to this series and it brings the whole series together. I love Ella, she has the strength to start school no matter how she was treated. But as she fights to control her actions, she hides her true strength and powers. This is perfect and Lexi Foss deserves a 10 star rating on Ella’s Masquerade
Ella’s been pushed around by her step-sisters, step-mother, and her classmates for years. Tray knows what Ella really is, a fae like him. A chance encounter and he lost his heart to her. Now he needs to join forces with her to teach others that revenge can be sweet.
