Ella is an Edwardian Cinderella with an undead problem…The flu pandemic of 1918 took millions of souls within a few short weeks. Except it wasn’t flu, and death gave them back.Seventeen-year-old Ella copes the best she can; caring for her war-injured father, scrubbing the floors, and slaying the undead that attack the locals. Vermin they’re called, like rats they spread pestilence with their … pestilence with their bite. Ella’s world collides with another when she nearly decapitates a handsome stranger, who is very much alive.
Seth deMage, the new Duke of Leithfield, has returned to his ancestral home with a mission from the War Office — to control the plague of vermin in rural Somerset. He needs help; he just didn’t expect to find it in a katana-wielding scullery maid.
Working alongside Seth blurs the line between their positions, and Ella glimpses a future she never dreamed was possible. But in overstepping society’s boundaries, Ella could lose everything – home, head and her heart…

I like these books! They’re fun. An interesting take on an old story. And zombies.
An interesting and original take on the old fairytale. Well written and good characterizations.
Different twist i like it
This was a good book. A new twist on Cinderella.
I only say Ella when I chose this book, thinking it was a Cinderella story. It turned out to be a zombie story. Not my taste.
Different but good
Character’s were very interesting. Really liked all of the scenes in life
Good read. Interesting characters. Planning on reading the sequels.
Cinderella meets the walking dead. Fun and easy read.
Usually dont like this genre but very well written. Nice balance of reality and fantasy.
I greatly enjoyed this book (so much so that I ended up reading the entire series.) A fun twist on the Cinderella tale that is set in post-WWI England where our heroine Ella has to battle not only a wicked stepmother and step sisters but also zombies!
Exciting twist to a timeless tale
A blend of Cinderella ,zombies and alternative history kept my attention.
This book would have been an easy 5.5 if it had been more ,”Ella the Slayer.” And less , “Cinderella.”
I ENJOYED THS VERSION OF CINDERELLA. ELLA NEE:ELEANOR, IS NOT A ZOMBIE SLAYER, AKA VERMIN, BY CHOICE. SHE SLEW HER FIRST ZOMBIE FOR HER OWN PROTECION. AFTER THAT,THE VILLAGE LET HER SLAY ALL THE OTHERS THAT SHOWED UP. THEY FIGURED THAT HER SOUL WAS ALREADY DAMAGED, SO WHAT WERE A FEW MORE. ELLA IS WORN OUT, BETWEEN HER STEP-MOTHER AND STEP-SISTERS AND THE CHORES OF THE HOUSE AND RUNNING THE FARM AND SLAYING VERMIN, SHE HARDLY GETS TO REST. THE NEW DUKE TURNS UP AND ELLA’S OVER WORKED STATUS BECOMES MORE INTENSE. HER OLDER STEP-SISTER HAS SET HER CAP FOR HIM. WHO GETS THE DUKE? THT IS THE REST OF THE STORY, OH YES, FIGHTING MORE VERMIN IS ALSO THERE.
Great twist on Cinderella and zombie themes!
Loved this twist on an old classic
undead
A twist on a fairy tale mixed with horror!
Too much death, very depressing
