Ella is an Edwardian Cinderella with an undead problem…The flu pandemic of 1918 took millions of souls within a few short weeks. Except it wasn’t flu, and death gave them back.Seventeen-year-old Ella copes the best she can; caring for her war-injured father, scrubbing the floors, and slaying the undead that attack the locals. Vermin they’re called, like rats they spread pestilence with their … pestilence with their bite. Ella’s world collides with another when she nearly decapitates a handsome stranger, who is very much alive.
Seth deMage, the new Duke of Leithfield, has returned to his ancestral home with a mission from the War Office — to control the plague of vermin in rural Somerset. He needs help; he just didn’t expect to find it in a katana-wielding scullery maid.
Working alongside Seth blurs the line between their positions, and Ella glimpses a future she never dreamed was possible. But in overstepping society’s boundaries, Ella could lose everything – home, head and her heart…

I thought it was entertaining. The ending was a bit quick and I don’t want to give it away, but I feel another choice would have fit the heroine better. But…does it leave an opening for book 2?
It was okay, though I’ve read other books based on the Cinderella tale that I enjoyed more.
Interesting twist to an old tale.
Fun book, well written.
I really enjoyed the twist on the classic Cinderella story. Good characters, fast paced without being rushed.
Rape and abuse of all female characters. Just bad.
Pretty good read, some parts i feel needed expanding on as it feels rushed at times.
I loved the rewritten Cinderella with Zobies. Lots of fun
This was an inventive modern revamp of an old fairy tale. Good read!
The concept sounded better than it ended up reading…in reality, I didn’t make it past the first few chapters.
A fun read.
Trilogy with Edward Ian bent to show the fairy tale changed into a steam lunker future with twists galore.
It reads much like a slower, more formulaic version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and the ending was written to clearly continue the series, with Ella making four really stupid decisions back to back that just ruined it for me and caused my decision to not even consider the rest of the series.
