FANS OF PERCY JACKSON AND THE SECRET CIRCLE WILL LOVE ELEMENTALS!When Nicole Cassidy moves from sunny Georgia to gloomy New England, the last thing she expects is to learn that her homeroom is a cover for a secret coven of witches. Even more surprisingly … she’s apparently a witch herself. Despite doubts about her newfound abilities, Nicole is welcomed into this ancient circle … this ancient circle of witches and is bedazzled by their powers–and, to her dismay, by Blake–the school’s notorious bad-boy.
Girls who get close to Blake wind up hurt. His girlfriend Danielle will do anything to keep them away, even if she must resort to using dark magic. But the chemistry between Blake and Nicole is undeniable, and despite wanting to protect Nicole from Danielle’s wrath, he finds it impossible to keep his distance.
When the Olympian Comet shoots through the sky for the first time in three thousand years, Nicole, Blake, Danielle, and two others in their homeroom are gifted with mysterious powers. But the comet has another effect–it opens the portal to the prison world that has contained the Titans for centuries. After an ancient monster escapes and attacks Nicole and Blake, it’s up to them and the others to follow the clues from a cryptic prophecy so that they can save their town … and possibly the world.

If you’re like me, and you’re completely obsessed with Greek mythology, the Elementals series by Michelle Madow is one you won’t want to miss. To give you an idea of what it’s like, I’d say it has the action and mythology of Percy Jackson, the magic and whimsy of Harry Potter, and the romance and teen angst of Twilight.
Elementals: The Prophecy of Shadows is an interestingly distinct paranormal story that weaves Greek mythology into the mix. I have to say, I haven’t come across a premise quite like it before. I thoroughly loved the elemental aspect of the story. If you love stories about witchcraft or mythology then I would pick this one up!
What I liked
I think that the best thing about this book is the interesting premise. I was really intrigued by Madow’s interpretation of magic and mythology. I haven’t read anything quite like it before, so it was refreshing.
The dialogues are fantastic! Most of the characters in this book are in high school, and they talk like they are. I hate reading books where the young characters in the books talk in sentences resembling college essays or network news anchors. Teenagers talk like young people. Madow’s characters are young, they talk like young people. They don’t speak as though they are unintelligent by any means, but at the same time not at all like adults.
The main characters are very relate-able. You get where they are coming from and nothing feels iffy as the story develops.
I like how addicting the story became the longer that I read. I seriously finished this book in ONE sitting. It was really that good. =D
I really enjoyed the romance. It was fairly subtle because of the situations in the book, but I thought that it was lovely. I don’t know that I have Blake completely figured out though, so I can’t wait for the next book! I am rooting for Blake and Nicole! (Also, how cute are Kate and Chris?! I think that they would be adorable together!)
What I didn’t like
I would have liked to have seen more about Kate and Chris. They have large parts of the story, but I didn’t feel as though their personalities and backgrounds were covered enough. I would have liked to have known them a little deeper. Especially since they were so integral to the story.
There were a few things that were fairly predictable in the plot. Once my suspicions were confirmed, it didn’t necessarily take away from the story. I still very much enjoyed the outcome of the book. Alas, the predictable factor is still there and worth mentioning.
While reading I felt like the story was progressing a little quickly for my taste. I think that adding some more background information would have also been beneficial. Again, it doesn’t necessarily take away from my enjoyment, but I do think that these things could have made the book that much better.
Would I Recommend It
Absolutely! Elementals: The Prophecy of Shadows is a breath of fresh air! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to read the next book in this series! Gah! Why can’t it be April yet? I need Elementals: The Blood of the Hydra now!
This was a really enjoyable read. I thought the concept of the elemental powers was clever and intertwining that with mythology made for an interesting storyline. I’m planning to read the whole series. 🙂
Witches descended from the Greek Gods what an awesome concept! Michelle Madow writes a fast paced tale of a a witch discovering who she is and learning to master her new found abilities. She is surrounded by friends and foes as well as a forbidden love interest. Prophecy of Shadows does a nice job of laying the ground work for what I expect to be a fun series. I look forward to reading more and seeing where the series takes these characters.
Really enjoyable read! Loved every second of this adventure!
Full of action, adventures, magic – elemental magic, witches and Greek Gods – what’s not to love!?!!
YOU REALLY SHOULD NOT MISS THIS READ!
Perfect for peeps who love paranormal romances, especially bookish peeps who love reading about witches AND Greek mythology!
I was pulled in from the beginning of this book. Some parts reminded me of other series I have read but I loved the Greek mythology spin! I started this book last night & despite having to work today & cook dinner I finished it tonight. Now on to Book 2 in the series.
The plot is pretty clear & descriptions more than good enough to get a good picture of places, events & the characters in the book! I think may have found a new favorite author!
