Steamy hot. A new-to-me author and series. Didn’t disappoint, especially in the NA genre. Loved!
I am so obsessively in love with this series.
The love and drama with Nixon and Trace, their intense feelings for one another makes for a good story but this is also about more than a couple, it’s about family, friends, loyalty, all those things make for an absolutely incredible journey.
I can not wait to dive into book 3.
I don’t know why it took me so long to read this series. I love a great Mafia read, and I love Rachel Van Dyken’s writing, so I kind of figured I was missing out, and I most definitely was missing out. I’m going to get sucked into this series with no way out. ; ) It is fast-paced and intense and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The narrators did a great job.
*4.5-5 Stars*
This series is crazyyyy! Elect was so action packed, so many things were happening, with a few mysteries thrown in. After the ending to Elite, I was very curious to see how things would play out between Nixon/Trace/Chase. That was playing with fire, that’s for sure.
Some new characters I really liked, particularly Mil, I’m very interested in the next book, because that’s her story, I’m pretty sure. I sped through this book so fast, its so action packed that I just devoured it, and had to know what would happen.
Loving this series so far, so glad I finally got a chance to start it. It’s unlike anything I’ve read before, and it’s really addictive!
I can’t decide whether to give this a 3 or 4. It’s sort of like “Empire Strikes Back” you NEED to read it to get the whole picture and to move the plot along and it provides the foundation for some very important future story-lines, but on its own ~ it isn’t a fabulous story. There’s annoying inconsistencies (um, we’re all supposed to be pretending that Trace is dead but you take her to school the next day???) There’s others but it would spoil things and take too long to set up.
I’ve read &/or listened to the whole series several times, but honestly after the first time I skip Elite and start with Enforce and then usually skip Elect and go on to Entice.
Also ~ I do NOT recommend the audiobook for Elite or Elect. Elect is a single narrator despite the alternating POVs and, while I’ve enjoyed Douglas Berger in other productions, he doesn’t do a fabulous job distinguishing between Nixon & Chase other than sometimes Chase’s “voice” is a bit “softer”. Which is ridiculous because neither is a soft/gentle character. Luca sounds like the Count from Sesame Street, not an Italian mobster. Beyond that I loved the Audiobooks so much that I purchased them all.
I think that Elite and Elect have a distinct YA/NA feel that drops off in the rest of the series. Perhaps that is why, after experiencing the rest of it, these two feel more disappointing.
After I finished Elite, I immediately bought Elect asap. Ohhhh, I’m loving this world build up soooo much. So many things are going to start happening! I can’t wait.
3.5 stars. So I really loved the first book and I will be reading the third book but this one was a disappointment. It was just a long drawn out dialogue about how much Chase loves Tracey and how much Nixon is selfless. I did not connect to any of the characters and it took me almost a year to finish.
The writing was good, the story flowed and was well planed out, if a bit muddled at times. I liked the characters and their personalities, I just did like the book. There was too much emotional pain tgat was all self induced. Any reader knows how tge story is going to play out from the first page, so what was the purpose of the story? Tge only redeeming factors for me was knowing who the bad guy is and some of the secrets reveiled.
Oh well. I can’t love every book and while I am glad I read this story, I won’t be reading it again. Like I said though, I am off to read book three because I love this series and this author!
I loved Elite, and I was very excited to start this second book in the series. The originality of the plot, the unexpected twists and turns, their placement in the story – it was created fantastically. It was very original, and the suspense and a bit of mystery brought the intense emotions to the brink in this book. It was much darker and much more mature than the first book, and it had to do with the various POVs it was written in, as well as the plot that revealed much more of the dark world and doings of mafia than before. The story gets raw and bloody and heartbreaking pretty soon. I liked the angst, I like the originality, the intensity. What I hated is the thing I usually hate: drama behind the love triangle. I usually stay away from love triangle based plots, but in this case, I wanted to pull through, because I felt the story had much more to give. And I was right. But because I hate even a bit of dramatics (I love Chase, but good god!) – 4 stars. I do not want to reveal much of the plot, I’ll just say it’s very intriguing and the book is definitely a page turner! The almost-cliffhanger took me by surprise again, as it happened at the end of book one. Well done. I’ll definitely be reading more. Recommended.
Oh Nix, if I was your girl my eyeballs would be not focusing on your face but your other yummy parts, “her eyes were glued to my bare stomach. “Not my face, Trace.” I tilted her chin up. She blushed and then closed her eyes. ” And I love it when he gets all bossy and possessive, “yes. Whether you like it or not, we belong to each other. I’m as much as yours as you are mine – I don’t share. I want to freaking murder anyone who even looks in your direction.” And he knows how to put a blush on Trace’s face, “sharing a bed isn’t sex; stop blushing.” I winked when she smacked me on the shoulder. “Not that I’m opposed to the idea…” And he doesn’t like it when his girl tells him how to do things I think he thinks his manhood is being questioned, “stop trying to tell me how to be a man. Pretty sure I rock at the date stuff.” I mean there was some ‘OH NO YOU EFFING DIDN”T RACHEL’ moments in the book but I’m glad in how it ended
