#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND THE PERFECT HOLIDAY GIFT A Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick“Beautifully written and incredibly funny, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is about the importance of friendship and human connection. I fell in love with Eleanor, an eccentric and regimented loner whose life beautifully unfolds after a chance encounter with a stranger; I think you will fall in love, … stranger; I think you will fall in love, too!” —Reese Witherspoon
No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.
But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.
Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . .
The only way to survive is to open your heart.

My Book Club read this last month on my recommendation and everyone loved the book. Such a good writer … she portrayed the characters so well. This is a very quirky book…lots of surprises and emotes many emotions from the reader. I recommend it highly.
“One of the most amazing books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. The story made me appreciate those who can find you when you sometimes feel lost in life. Eleanor Oliphant turns out to be both a hero and an inspiration without realizing it. This book made me laugh, cry, and enjoy every moment until the very end”.
Eleanor Oliphant is not completely fine. Aside from being a socially awkward, somewhat misanthropic person who learns finally how to make friends, she has to overcome a very dark past in order to get over herself. There are many elements from different Fredrik Backman books that are similar, but this is a gem of a book all on its own.
Beautifully written.
I loved this book. Eleanor is so wonderfully oblivious and broken, but she is also stronger and more resilient than even she suspected.
One of my favorites!
I wondered how the author could write about this odd-duck protagonist for an entire full-length novel, but she did so beautifully and made each character feel real. There were some twists in the plot I didn’t expect, and I was sad to see the story end, though it was crafted well from start to finish.
Uniquely charming. Honeyman’s characterizations are so vivid, a week after reading they feel fresh and alive in my mind. The story was warm despite its heartbreak, with enough humour to take the edge off the pain and discomfort. A memorable read.
Overall, I found this an engaging read that had me wondering for a long while why Eleanor Oliphant was not fine. However, the author exaggerates in so many places that Eleanor ends up being a character that is in many ways unbelievable, for instance in the way she speaks and in her experience of the world. After all the hype, I was a tad disappointed.
Great book..the only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the twist at the end regarding Mummy (spoiler alert)? I would have liked that to have been explored more before the ending. Otherwise, a wonderful read
I liked this book in that you had sympathy for Eleanore and yet you found out what a strong woman she was. Her friend, Raymond, turned out to be the guy who “saved her life” and taught her it was worth living!
Somewhat predictable but utterly charming. Wonderful character art. So well written. Serious subjects addressed with empathy and realness.
Wonderful Book!
One of the best books I have read in a long time!!
Honestly one of the best books I have read in a while. I can’t wait to see what other stories Gail writes! Will be a new favorite author for sure. I feel like this story was unpredictable for me, you must try it for yourself!
Read it…
A great story about a person healing from horrible childhood abuse.
I really enjoyed Gail Honeyman’s Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. I’d heard good things about, but I don’t know what took me so long to actually read it. Eleanor is a complex character, and I found myself drawn into her story. However, the reader doesn’t know about her tragic past that made her who she is until much later in the book. It is well worth the wait when it all falls into place. I also loved the relationship she and Raymond form, he genuinely is a nice guy who becomes Eleanor’s anchor. Don’t wait to read this book.
I loved it!
Great first person narrative about a person who goes through a serious trauma, and heals.
