#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER AND THE PERFECT HOLIDAY GIFT A Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick“Beautifully written and incredibly funny, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is about the importance of friendship and human connection. I fell in love with Eleanor, an eccentric and regimented loner whose life beautifully unfolds after a chance encounter with a stranger; I think you will fall in love, … stranger; I think you will fall in love, too!” —Reese Witherspoon
No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.
But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.
Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes. . .
The only way to survive is to open your heart.

Eleanor Oliphant was everything. EVERYTHING. I only marked “wonderful characters” because that is why it is everything. It made me laugh, and cry, and think, and rage. It is a book full of all the feels a person can have. The writing is beautiful, witty, and subtle. Eleanor is REAL. And, usually, I don’t like first person narrative. This needed it.
Great book. Highly recommended. I will admit, I’m often flummoxed by how some of the best sellers are, in fact, best sellers. This one? No flummox. A perfect book. Not a single BUT in the whole review.
Not sure who thought this was incredibly funny…but it is definitely not funny. Quirky? Yes. Engaging? Yes. Funny? Not at all.
Tragic sad horrifying circumstances lead to a quirky girl who slipped though the mental healthcare cracks. How and why this poor girl was not properly cared for after what had happened led to 20 years of mental pain and anguish and socially retarded behavior…
It is a salient commentary on how society and social programs are fallible, and how Children need our help, guidance and protection. Always and forever.
I see an more positive future for Eleanor, but all that time she lost is very sad. Who knows where she could have gone had she gotten help right away.
This is an interesting book about Eleanor Oliphant, who is a funny, sarcastic, judgmental woman who has had a difficult life. It is a wonderful example of true friendship and support.
I loved this well-written book. A thoughtful uplifting book, kind characters – just what I needed to read. Eleanor is in a rut – but find her way!
One of my most favourite and precious reads. Not a day goes by where I dont think of Eleanor
Did not think this was “incredibly funny.” Most of the big “surprises” were not that surprising (expected them to happen before the big reveal). Interesting and quirky characters made it an enjoyable read.
The more I read this book the more I liked it. Eleanor was an unusual character that grew on me. Quite an unusual and entertaining story.
I loved Eleanor humorous way to see people around her. It is very well written and full of unpredictable twists and turns. Great ending too!
Now, I know I’m not the first to review this popular book and I won’t be the last – but I had to have my say!
I adored Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. Eleanor completely absorbed me into her bleak and lonely world, and I followed her burgeoning relationships with hope and fascination. The characters were beautifully detailed and, always in the background, there was a mysterious tragedy which compels the reader to move on.
Most of all, I cherished Eleanor’s relationship with her mother. As someone who has a difficult relationship there in real life, I appreciated the constant and regular efforts Eleanor made there – even if readers may have been screaming for her to give up!
An outstanding read.
Rich, interesting characters.
This is such a sweet, tragic story. I loved it.
The characters are unique. It’ presents a good case for supporting the essential need for nurturing. These are characters usually ignored or “unseen”. Maybe readers will become friendlier and kinder to strangers after reading it.
This is one of the 1st books in a very long time that I couldn’t wait for it to end to see what happened, yet didn’t want it to end because the story was that mesmerizing. Wishing the author all things wonderful!

Characters very unpleasant
LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS, I MISS THEM.
I loved this book and the characters. Eleanor is quirky and you can’t help rooting for her. A fun read.
Eleanor Oliphant is, simply put, a tremendous character. She’s prickly and judgmental and awkward and strange. She’s also hilarious, even if unintentionally so, and surprisingly big-hearted. And her journey throughout this book is beautiful to witness. It’s satisfying and triumphant, with a lot of relatable stumbles along the way, as well as a poignantly rendered rock-bottom. I admire the darkness in this book as much as the light, and I love how rich and textured Eleanor’s story is because of the trauma from her childhood that informs so much of who she is now. I also loved this book because, in a lot of ways, Eleanor Oliphant reminded me of Amelia Bedelia, one of the best literary characters of all time in my opinion. Eleanor takes things so literally half the time, making me laugh with the same kind of bewildered joy that I did while reading the Amelia Bedelia books as a kid. I was a little late to the Eleanor Oliphant party, but I’m happy to have discovered why so many people sing her praises.
I have been meaning to read this book for ages and honest wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. A very interesting mix between heart-warming story about the power of human connection and a psychological thriller/mystery. Definitely a page turner.
I love that Eleanor was so funny and so set in her ways. She had a difficult time trusting anyone. You can as the story unfolds learn why she gets upset easy. Loved this book
Quirky woman finds a way to navigate her world, not my cup of tea.
