Edge of Retribution is book one in the Edge series by Jacob Chance. This is a romantic suspense that had me completely riveted by the end of the first chapter. What a way to start things off!
When we first meet Zoe Thomas she is eighteen years old and has just graduated from high school. She’s a happy teenager whose life is about to drastically change.
Nash Garrison is an FBI agent, ten years older than Zoe. Nash and Zoe’s lives are thrown together in the most stressful of ways. The more time they spend together, the stronger the bond is that forms between them. It’s an attraction Nash has never felt for another woman. But it’s also one he’s determined not to act on. No matter how mature Zoe is, she’s still only eighteen and also very vulnerable. Which means hands off.
“What is it about her that draws me in and has me wanting to get to know her more.”
Six years later, Zoe is all grown up and has the job she’s dreamed of having her entire life. She has one goal, to get revenge against the man who ruined her life six years ago. She hasn’t seen Nash in six years but now he is suddenly back in her life. It’s immediately evident that the feelings she had for him six years ago are still there, strong as ever. But she needs to focus on her new job, and on her most important goal.
“Retribution will be mine. An urge for vengeance fills me to my very marrow, and sometimes it’s all that motivates me to keep moving from one day to the next.”
Nash let Zoe go six years ago because he thought it was the right thing to do at the time. But now she’s back in his life and she isn’t a teenager any more. He let her go once but he’s not letting her go again.
“I want to be yours. I’ve been waiting forever to be yours.”
I loved this book! Nash was everything I love in a hero, all alpha and tough but soft on the inside. I loved how he was with Zoe, both when she was younger, and in the present. He got all the swoons. This book has everything I love, a swoony hero, a kick butt heroine, absolutely amazing secondary characters, suspense that had me on the very edge of my seat, and also some sweet and some super steamy scenes. Add it all together and you’ve got a winner.
I’m so excited because Jacob is adding a duet to this series, Edge of Honor and Edge of Forever. The details will be released soon but after reading this book, I couldn’t be more excited.
Suspenseful and edgey.
This is an edge of your seat thrill ride kind of a book. This was suspense done right. Zoe and Nash have a chemistry that is electric and sizzles off the pages. I’ve read other books by Jacob Chance, but this one was different. It was edgier, darker, and grittier but in a good way. It’s nice to see an author mix up the genres a bit and keep their readers interested and on their toes. Oh and that twist OMG I honestly did not see that one coming. I also loved the characters Georgia and Balfast and can’t wait to read their story, because I know there was definitely something there between them. Edge of Retribution is going on my top 20 reads of 2018. I look forward to reading more books like this from Mr.Chance in the future. #Top20of2018
Great Story! Loved it!
I really enjoyed the characters, the story, the suspense. It was awesome! Jacob Chance pulls you in to the story and you won’t be able to put the book down, I know I couldn’t. I love the characters of Zoe and Nash. He was brought in to protect her, and slowly they started to fall for each other, only events ended up separating them. When they meet again will they be able to resist seeing if it was infatuation or real love, and will he be able to protect her again? Read the book to find out.
This Second Chance Age Gap Suspense Romance was really exciting and fun to read! Although the age gap was only 10 years, I know some people consider that to be quite significant. I personally don’t, as I feel like a lot of men mature a lot later than women do.
Our MCs meet when she is18 and he is 28. Zoe is in Witness Protection to testify on the mobsters who killed her FBI parents in front of her. Nash is FBI protecting her and although there is major attraction, he tries hard not to cross the professional line. He emphasizes their ages and that she still has a lot of living yet to do. I loved this part of the book the most, as we got to see the relationship between Nash and Zoe grow and blossom from friends to what could be and really was so much more. We get to know these two as individuals trying to deal with life as they were dealt this crappy hand and trust to be there for each other. They were ripped apart without goodbyes and both felt the loss deeply.
These two meet up again 6 years later and the circumstances are very different. They both feel the same chemistry, but Zoe is afraid to be hurt again. She put herself all out there only to be told she was too young and there is still the same age difference between them. She is now 24 and he is 34. He now has no professional liability to stay away from her so to him, all bets are off. Especially now that he finds out how much their separation has hurt her – as much as it hurt him. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and I loved them together! But there is still a Russian Mobster to catch and a mole in the FBI. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end!
I recommend this book if you like any of the above mentioned genres! Or just a well written, engaging story! This is it!
Page turner, hot, pronominal read. Jacob Chance wrote another great book. This one is a great story about Zoe (who has seen more than any girl should see in her life) and Nash (who risks it all just to keep her safe). I really like how the story unfolded, from innocent to….well, read it and find out.
Edge of Retribution by Jacob Chance is the second book I read by him. He is becoming one of my favorite authors. I was immediately drawn into the story. Right away I liked Nash and Zoe. The book is written in two parts. In the first part Zoe is 18 and Nash is ten years older. Nash is a FBI agent assigned to protect Zoe. I felt the push and pull between the two characters. The time is not right for these two characters to get together. Part two is six years later. They are at different places in their lives and Zoe is not that 18 year old girl.
Edge of Retribution is suspenseful, action-packed, intense, and steamy. I loved the use of the secondary characters throughout the story. I really liked how Jacob wrote Zoe, Karyn, and Georgia. It was refreshing to see female FBI agents not acting high and mighty simply because they are women. They are strong, independent, and capable without having to prove a point. Kudos to you, Jacob.
There are twists and turns in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed the suspenseful ride. I highly recommend Edge of Retribution.
The Edge of Retribution was the first suspense novel I’ve read by Jacob Chance. I have read and highly enjoyed his sports novels about the Boston Terriers, so I was looking forward to reading this and getting all my curiosity up for The Edge of Honor. The author has been taunting us with snips and tidbits for a while now. Especially the playlist. So, like a proper fangirl, I started reading.
HOLY SMOKES talk about starting with a bang (yeah I just did that), this book kicks you in the stomach from page two. And that ride doesn’t end for quite some time, and it leaves you breathless. By the time you get to part two of the book, you’re a messy heap on the floor. Who needs to sleep, anyway? You need to know what happens next.
What happens next is a well-paced tightrope walk in romantic suspense. I really enjoyed how Jacob managed to balance the romance and the ongoing story with uber-evil Russian and Chechen guys. We meet Belfast, (who is going to be something else in Edge of Honor) Georgia (loved her snark), and Zoe’s roommate Natasha (there’s a story there I swear). All of these characters combine to make the story all that and more. When I get to the end of a book and sit there thinking, “that’s it?” well, I know it was excellent. Verdict on Jacob Chance and romantic suspense? Two very happy thumbs up!
A great thriller that kept me guessing, and captivated until the end. It was nice to read a story that started with devastation, and see the outcome of hard work to over come hardships.
Edge of Retribution is Jacob’s debut book in this genre, although we still get the romance we’re all accustomed too. It was apparent from reading the first few pages that we were going to be on one hell of a ride. An excellent read, starting with an abduction and the storyline just kept on getting better. There was enough suspense to keep me interested, interspersed with swooning and banter. If you are reading this review I implore you to grab yourself a copy now because you won’t regret it.
Coming home after her final day of high school Zoe is abducted, she witnesses two brutal murders and is put into witness protection. Zoe connects with one of the agents Karen, due to her having a daughter around the same age. Nash Garrison is bought in to assist, they have a few interesting conversations and a whole lot of chemistry. Zoe is unable to hide her attraction and begins flirting with Nash. At times this pair butt heads and others they are like two peas from the same pod.
Nash has to keep reminding himself that Zoe is only 18 and ten years younger than him. Going to college and maturing is what she needs to do and he’s not going to get in the way of that. Six years later they almost literally run into one another and a lot of memories are bought back to the surface. He’s thought about her often, but never reached out and now shes resurfaced, he wants to get to know her. Zoe’s moved on though and her focus is elsewhere, will he be able to gain some?
Jacob delivers another strong hero with a heart of gold. You’re going to want to read this one!
When they first met, Zoe was only 18 years old and had been through unthinkable tragedy. Nash was the FBI agent assigned to protect her. Their immediate attraction to one another was undeniable. However, Nash not wanting to mix business with pleasure as well as their ten-year age difference were the two biggest reasons it just “wouldn’t work out.” Six years later, Zoe has grown up and Nash finds he still has feelings for her.
In his release, Jacob brings us a romantic suspense with twists and turns, ups and downs, and everything in between…right along with a criminal to catch! Edge of Retribution will keep you guessing until the very end.
I LOVED Nash and Zoe!! The suspense throughout the book kept you on the edge of your seat. You were rooting for their relationship even with the taboo age gap, and the conflict of interest with their situation. Jacob Chance delivered another steamy read. Already dove into the next book in the series.
This is book one of “The Edge” series: a story of a second chance at love for Zoe Thomas and Nash Garrison. Eighteen-year old Zoe rushes home after her last day at high school, only to be kidnapped and taken to a house where she watches her parents get killed. She is placed in a safe house, where she meets Nash, an FBI agent, who becomes one of her minders. They fall in love but Nash will not act upon it because he is 10 years older and does not want to compromise his position with the FBI. Six years pass before Zoe, now a FBI agent, sees Nash again. He is so willing to take the step forward to begin a relationship with Zoe but she hesitates, because she doesn’t want all the old feeling to return. Working together to find the men responsible for her parent’s death is one thing, but can Zoe hold back her love for Nash when he is so ready for her?
I love Jacob Chance’s writing. He is especially skillful at weaving descriptive and expressive words that not only tell a story; they make one think. EG: “You need to enjoy the journey, (of life), that’s were all the magic happens.” And as I continue with the story, I am looking for that magic between Nash and Zoe. He entwines those magical words that burst out and engulf us and make us believe in the love and enchantment between these two characters.
In an interview, the author once said that he often has “hidden secrets”, things that he has shared with his readers. For example, like Nash, the author loves pizza, milk chocolate, vanilla ice cream and the New England Patriots. There might be more, but I still do not know the author that well, even after reading all of his books.
This is a true love story told with words that are passionate and caring yet there is suspense and drama woven in. If you like your romance with some tense and anxious moments, then I recommend you read this book, and all his others too.
Exciting and edgy!! What a great suspenseful story!! Jacob Chance takes you on a wild and chaotic ride!! Awesome book!!
Crappy circumstances brought them together but changed their lives for the better. I was happy time brought them together again and how this all played out. I read Belfast and Georgia’s story first on accident but now I see that I couldn’t have ever doubted these two if I read then in order!
Jacob Chance has crafted a novel that grips you from page one. It takes you on a wild ride and keeps you glued to your kindle or book. Filled with suspense, intrigue, sex, and a wild crazy romance. Chance has created a world that you want to crawl into and stay.
Zoe’s life is totally upended by the murder of her parents and the protection detail put on her until their murderers are brought to justice. In walks one of the agents on her protective detail, Nash. Their relationship changes everything. He becomes her only real ally in her new world. Their bond grows as time progresses.
I sometimes hate having to review really good books because I do NOT want to tell all the aspects of this book, because then you can’t fall for Nash and Zoe like I have.
I loved seeing Zoe become stronger in mind, body and soul. She was always had a scrappy attitude but watching her take control over her life when it was in a tailspin, was inspiring. The relationship that blossoms between Zoe and Nash was beautiful to watch.
Edge of Retribution is a beautiful love story but it is also a story of finding yourself stronger for the situations that your journey in life has brought.
EDGE OF RETRIBUTION By Jacob Chance
I was so drawn into this book from the very first page. I would have to say this is my favorite of all of Jacob’s books I have read so far. This well written story has everything! Suspense, drama, murder, intrigue, and Zoe & Nash are great characters that you care about from the start with crazy hot chemistry.
Zoe meets Nash when she is 18 and he is 28. He is her FBI protection after the death of her parents. The attraction is there from the start but he doesn’t act on it as she is too young and he is providing protection for her. When things blow up and he is critically injured on the job, Zoe doesn’t see him for 6 years. They run into each other when she gets her dream job on the FBI too. I am not going to reveal anything else, the reader needs to see for themselves. Definitely a 5 star book.
OMG!! How have I not read this book before today!! I think it is so far one of my Jacob Chance favorites. Loved Nash and Zoe and so glad they found each other again. The story is heartbreaking, emotional, sad, feel anger, anxiety, and happiness and love and friendship. I can’t wait to read Belfast and Georgia’s story!!
Damn…Edge of Retribution is SO good with a very engaging and exciting storyline. So far, this is the best book I’ve read by Jacob Chance. The action, angst, suspense of it all and the sexual tension between Nash and Zoe nearly killed me. I could feel the fire and energy between these two.
Edge of Retribution can definitely be read as a stand-alone and I’m highly anticipating reading the On The Edge Duet featuring Belfast (he definitely peaked my interest) and Georgia which are secondary characters from this book.
Jacob Chance has just taken me on a thrill ride that I will never forget! I absolutely loved this book! Nash and Zoe were perfect for each other. Their chemistry was off the charts. The storyline was fast paced and kept me glued to my Kindle. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone.
Standing guard to a young, vulnerable Zoe six years ago, Nash tried his hardest to not fall for her. Now that she’s older & he now works with her with the FBI, he can finally pursue her. But Zoe has plans to bring down the monster responsible for murdering her parents, and she will not allow any distractions to get in her way, including the man she once had a crush on.
I have to say out of all the books Jacob has written, this is by far my favorite. From the first few pages you are pulled in to the best story I have ever read. You feel for Zoe & the nightmare she went through. You fall in love with Nash & his determination to keep Zoe safe at all costs. This is a page-turner full of action, suspense, twists, turns & romance. I’m blown away with every book I read of Jacob’s. This was an amazing read & now I am anxiously waiting for Belfast’s book!
