I loved “Edge of Peril” by Christy Barritt so much! I have loved all of Christy Barritt’s books, but I believe this one is my favorite, so far. This one had a little more suspense and mystery than her other books. Just when I thought I had the mystery figured out, it ended up changing!
I can’t recommend this book enough. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
This was a really good book. I guessed the killer almost immediately, but someone who doesn’t write suspense probably wouldn’t have.
My only real issue with it was that it started in the villain’s perspective. I’d have preferred to have it start in another character’s perspective. I actually put the book aside for weeks after reading the first few pages because of this.
Another little thing was what I assume is a colloquialism: instead of saying “catch up with” it said “get up with” and it was in there a few times. It was weird for me.
Overall, it was an exciting, fast-paced read with plenty of characters who could’ve been the villain keeping it interesting.
I really enjoyed this book. Its a real page turner. I will be reading more of her books
Christy Barritt has marvelous characters and always comes through with realistic situations, hard-to-put down stories
I loved the action and suspense in this novel. It is an involved story with many twists and turns as well as a surprise ending. One of the best of Christy Barritt’s that I’ve read.
I’ve never read a book by Christy Barritt that I didn’t like. Edge of Peril did not disappoint. I highly recommend any book this author has written or will write in the future.
I enjoyed this book m. Barrett is an excellent author. She does not disapoint
This first book in the Fog Lake suspense series is impossible to put down. In my busy retired life, I usually get to read only at night. Two nights of reading and I finished it. Christy Barritt is an amazing author. She tells the story in a way that makes it extremely difficult to figure out who the killer is. The reader gets to know the main characters on a very deep personal level. The twists in the plot throughout will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved all the suspense and a touch of romance. This book is a must read for any Christy Barritt fan. I’m looking forward to reading more in the series!
Christy Barritt did a great job creating believable characters and making you wonder who the murderer was. I did figure it out early, but I still think she did a good job casting suspicion on other characters, enough to make me want to keep reading.
Wow, oh wow! Hang on to your seat because this book will take you for a ride and you will find you need to breathe again and stop your head from spinning!
One thing I realized right after I read the first chapter was, NEVER read books by this author late at night!
OH MY GOODNESS! With all her books I never know who the bad guy is until the end. I think I know and then don’t! WOW! She really has fantastic skills!
It’s also the kind of book where you REALLY don’t want to put it down because you want to finish, but then you also don’t want to pick it up because you don’t know what’s going to happen! The story just keeps getting more intense and scarier, sending shivers up and down the spine.
In this story, we find Harper, who has had some pretty tough things happen to her and she is living with constant fear in her life. No one will believe her. She comes to the town of Fog Lake in hopes of finally putting an end to her fears. She meets the local Sheriff, Luke, who is dealing with lots of loss in his life too. He has a hard time trusting others, yet feels responsible to protect everyone around him. Their lives are quickly intertwined and they soon find they need to depend on each other if they are ever going to solve this mystery.
You will get caught up with all the colorful descriptions and words Christy Barritt uses from the very first page to the very last.
“Thick and pregnant with gray moisture, wisps of air played hide-and-seek with anyone caught in its mist.”
Now doesn’t that just send chills down your spine? It really sets the stage for the name of the town, Fog Lake!
This story has so much packed into it, it was hard to breathe sometimes. My heart was pounding and my mind was going fast trying to figure out how it was all going to end.
If you LOVE mystery, suspense, and action, you will love this book!
This story will keep you on the edge of your seat until you finish it. Be prepared to not put it down, even to eat or sleep!
I received this book from the author to give an honest review. All opinions are my own. I highly recommend you pick this book up!
I loved the first book in a new suspense series by Christy Barritt! This book was a little more spooky than some of her other series, and grabbed my attention right from the start. Luke is a small town sheriff in Tennessee where there is little crime until the murders start. Harper hears about the murders and comes to town to try to help stop the killer, but her story seems outlandish to Luke. He wonders if she is telling the truth or if she is connected to the murders. “The Watcher” sees everything and is biding his time to finish his plan, which now includes Harper. Thrilling, suspenseful, hard to put down. Another winner from Christy Barritt.
I received a copy of this book for review, but the thoughts are my own.
3.5 stars
“He was worse than a ghost. He was real.”
Young women are turning up dead in Fog Lake, Tennessee and the killer is as illusive as a wisp of smoke. Sheriff Luke Wilder has very few clues, if any at all, to follow up on .. . . until a curious bit of information from an outsider comes to his attention.
Harper Jennings is sure that she knows who is on a killing spree in the idyllic small town of Fog Lake; more than likely it’s the same person who tried to take her life just three years prior. It’s a crazy story, she knows that, but it’s worth a chance if it keeps others away from the edge of a very sharp knife.
Be prepared to sit on the edge of your seat! Christy Barritt is off to a great start in her new series; “Fog Lake Mysteries”.
What a great book! Christy Barritt has done it again! I love all of her books that I have read, but this one really drew me in and I just couldn’t put it down. It was a page turner to the very end. I couldn’t guess who the culprit was. Looking forward to more in this series.
Edge of Peril is a bit darker and grittier than the usual Christy Barritt book but by no means does that make it any less good. It was awesome and, wow, what a page-turner!
The very first sentence perfectly set the mood for the entire book and pulled me right in. The truly twisted villain and the constant nerve-wracking guessing game of who The Watcher actually was had my heart racing. The pace was lightning fast and had me speeding through the pages as quickly as possible.
I really enjoyed the beginning of this new series and can’t wait to see what unfolds next! Highly recommended!
Couldn’t put it down kept me guessing until the end!
A great mystery story. Interesting twists and characters. Christian and clean romance.
Scary good!
Premiering the Fog Lake Mysteries, Christy Barritt gifts a stunning debut to readers. Set in the gorgeous Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, Fog Lake was a peaceful, family-friendly lake town. However, a risky future due to a violent past puts both residents and tourists in grave danger. The Watcher is out for revenge and his next victim is in sight. Will Luke and other responders identify and catch him before the next tragedy? Will they believe Harper’s past and current information? Stay tuned, but try not to read alone at night.
I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
