Another fabulous story of a mature couple from Ms. Barker. This story is low on angst but high on all the things that make a relationship work. James/Yuma and Lissie are such a great couple with lots of love to give. There is a little bit of action but not enough to put you off if you don’t like lots of action/angst. I thought it was the perfect balance. I cannot say enough about how this couple interacts so lovingly and help each other with their problems.

This was an awesome mature romance filled with so much emotion and intensity it left me breathless.
Lissie has spent her whole life trying to live up to her family’s expectations and always falling short. With the opportunity to move to Durango offers itself, she jumps on the chance for a couple of reasons. However, she wasn’t counting on an attraction to her big bulky biker landlord. When they learn what all they have in common, the door is open for something more and Lissie doesn’t hesitate to take the first gentle step through.
”Because you could easily become my next addiction, Lissie”
I adored Lissie. She was one tough cop but had a softness to her that called out to Yuma, even as he was attracted to that dark edge she held within that matched his own. Knowing exactly what to say and do, she was more than capable of crashing through the walls he had built around him.
Yuma is the perfect burly hero, wounded and in so much need of acceptance and love. He made a few bad judgments with Lissie but he more than made up for them and she was just the type to know when to yield in the face of his pain. With a pretty strong possessive streak and some fun “knock them upside their head” jealous moments, he proves himself to be another great hero designed by this author.
”Yuma…” she breathes when I shut the door behind me and crowd her against the hallway closet.
“James,” I correct her, my nose almost touching hers. “My name is James Wells. Yuma to the outside, but with you I want to just be me.”
As so many other books by Ms. Barker, this has a plot that isn’t singular. She worked her magic interweaving one plot into the next until I didn’t have a clue where I was going to end up. I love that she can do that every single time.
With some drama, a bit of relationship angst, and a tad of humor, this book kept me engaged from beginning to end. And just when I thought I was going to survive this without tears, I realized I was wrong. I love when I can be surprised by something so heartwarming that it makes me cry. As for the steam level, this is Hot! Everything between Lissie and Yuma feels organic and that more than includes their chemistry.
Overall, this was an AMAZING read that only leaves me wanting more of not only Lissie and Yuma, but that of the next couple coming up. Fingers crossed it’s who I think it is!
Yuma and Lizzie are total opposites with a lot of baggage. They share some baggage but is it enough that they can use it as a healing factor? When bodies start turning up Lizzie and Yuma combine resources to get to the bottom of it. Will they become victims before they find the killer? This romantic suspense will have you on the edge of your seat. The story is so descriptive you feel as though you are right there as this story unfolds.

My heart broke reading this book. Still finding lost boys w/out mothers even in this book. Yuma has had a hard time and turned to alcohol and other things. It was hard on him when his mamma got shot and his dad took it hard. Lissa is from a family of cops who don’t take her side when something happens in her home town and she ups and leaves for Durango. She’s following leads of her missing friend, when she gets a little too close and gets in trouble herself. A great read. Danger, murder, sadness, heat and HEA.
Edge of Darkness is one of the best books I’ve read all year!
Lissie and Yuma are attracted to each other from almost the first moment they meet. Even though they’ve both gone through their own means to clean their lives up, their first several weeks together are perfect, until they’re not.
Lissie runs into Ginger and Red while visiting the Arrow’s Edge clubhouse, and Ginger tries to share her special relationship with Red and Yuma. Although Red shuts her down, and drags her out of the room, the whispers in Lissie’s brain are getting louder.
Then when Yuma finds out about Lissie’s original reason for moving to Durango, Yuma tries to pull the plug on their quickly blooming relationship himself. Both of them are trying to heal with gaping wounds in their hearts, and that isn’t making it any easier.
As the case Lissie and the Durango PD is heating up, fingers are pointing everywhere, including the Mayor of Durango, the American Nationalist League, and another MC called The Moab Reds. Before Lissie can get permanent answers on who is dumping bodies, someone comes gunning for her, hoping to end Lissie’s search in a more permanent way.
An outstanding new addition to the Arrow’s Edge MC series, Lissie and Yuma are beautiful to watch together, and the suspense is so thick I HAD to finish it in one setting. Freya leaves the biggest surprise for the very last page, and has ensured that I’ll be waiting with bated breath for the next in the series! Ms. Barker has absolutely knocked it out of the park with this AMAZING 5 MC Romance!!
On the surface, Yuma and Lissie are a textbook case of opposites attract, but once you start to scratch that surface, it’s clear that appearances are deceiving.
He is a biker used to living on the wrong side of the law doing what he wants when he wants to do it. Life’s twists and turns pushed him too close to the edge until he found himself waking up at rock bottom looking for a little help and a whole lotta redemption.
She is the first female cop in a long line of law enforcement officers, and she has had to fight to prove herself in their man’s world time and time again. She is held to a higher standard by her own fathers and brothers who I came to have a very serious dislike for. The sights and horrors of the job take a toll until one unexpected encounter turns into the straw that breaks the proverbial camel’s back so to speak. When her own family threatens to use her mistakes against her to discredit her for the sake of “protecting the family name”, a change of location becomes necessary.
Like recognizes like, and it’s not long until they realize their differences aren’t that important. Without the crutch of past vices to fall back on, they need to lean on each other particularly when life starts to throw more obstacles at them. Walking the fine line between support and dependence leads to some bumpy moments along the way, but I have to say I absolutely loved these two characters and their journey. They are flawed but real and relatable at the same time, and they definitely had chemistry from the start. Edge of Darkness incorporates a storyline unique to Lissie while expanding upon a plot from prior books in the series, but you can absolutely read this book as a standalone. If you have not met the Arrow’s Edge and Durango law enforcement families yet, what are you waiting for? Like any family, they are not perfect and life gets messy at times, but they will make you laugh, cry, swoon and fan yourself as you get to know them all so go get your 1-click on!

Before reading Edge of Darkness, I really do suggest reading the previous stories from Freya Barker, IMO as we have several characters as well as situations from the previous books that are mentioned. We know that Yuma hasn’t had it easy, between his mother being shot, and then himself, he sort of lost control or I should say lost even more control as he hadn’t really been coping for a long time already. When he hit rock bottom, the club was right there to make sure he got the help that he needed, and once Yuma came back, he spent his time hiding. After volunteering to take over the apartment complex that the club owns, he spends his days fixing up the apartments trying to stay away from situations that will drive him to lose his progress.
Lissie is the new detective in town, we “met” her in Absolving Blue. She has her reasons for moving to town, among those a new start, a start to get away from the family that didn’t have her back when she needed them the most. Now she feels that she needs to prove something, all the while maintaining her sobriety. Yuma is someone that she feels like she has a connection with, but she can’t and shouldn’t have one. Two sides of the law, two people trying to beat the same demon. What happens when they decide to throw caution to the wind? Will they regret it? Will they lose themselves in the process?
This was amazing! I absolutely loved every word of the story. Giving us mystery, suspense, spicy moments, drama, danger and so much more; this was a story that pulled you in from the start and doesn’t let go till the very last word. I give this 5 stars.
I was seriously in a book funk, nothing seemed to grab me, but when the newest from Freya Barker became available for me I knew that funk was going to be over. Edge of Darkness was a fantastic read. Even though we met Yuma previously and was not seen as the best, I was immediately invested in his and Lissie’s story. Yuma definitely had his demons and a lot of baggage but I ended up adoring him. Lissie is the new detective in town, she had specific reasons for joining the Durango PD and we find out that she too had baggage and demons of her own. I loved how when two people who on the surface looked like polar opposites find each other and realize how similar they were. They are there for each other when the past is uncovered and tragedy strikes. I could not put this book down, we have the drama, suspense, danger, swoony moments, steamy moments and the best happily ever after and not just for Yuma and Lissie!
Another definite 5 star read!
I’ve read several books written by Freya Barker; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.

I absolutely freakin adored this latest book in the Arrow’s Edge MC series!!! Yuma and Lissie seperately have had one messed up past. They have and currently still battle demons who threaten their sanity if they would allow it. Their family dynamics are complicated at best and are doing good to take things as the come day by day. Neither one of them expected the feelings that they stirred up in another. Yuma was a love em and leave em type of guy…he never expected Lissie. There are twists and turns that neither of them ever expected. Can they weather the storm and manage a way to make their fledgling relationship work? I loved every word of their story!! I was hooked from beginning to end, I laughed, swooned, cried, and rooted for them to find their happiness together every step of the way. Yuma and Lissie were what each other needed to be complete, I truly believe that they were each other’s missing pieces. This was such a great story one I highly recommend to all. I can’t wait to read the next book this talented author comes out with next. Well done!!!!
