Talk about a complete mind *&^%!!!! No seriously… this book will mess with your mind. You wont know what’s real or not. You wont know who to trust nor who’s involved. Echoes is an amazing adventure of two teens, Miles and Fiona, trying to figure out who put them on an island and if the trip in Berlin was real. The two become close during their time together. This story ends in a cliffhanger and you are going to want to read the next book fractures. I look forward to the continuation of this story!
I recieved an ARC in exchange for a honest review
Echoes is the first book in the Echoes series by Alice Reeds. After realizing that the arc from Fractures was a sequel, of course I have to read book one in the serie first.
Echoes is a thriller of a trip that goes totally wrong and make who guessing at every chapters what is true or false.
After being chosen for an internship for Briola, Miles and Fiona who are high school enemies will need to put their differences aside if they want to survive.
Having no memory of how they got on a deserted island, well Fiona as some of a plane crash but while investigating, Miles figures that the plane never have really flew. So how did they got there… And they aren’t alone on the island. Some mysterious beast is also there.
Another timeline put Miles and Fiona in Berling. Someone made a reservation for them at an hotel. But when asking the hotel staff, no name can be put for the reservation. And another problem, there is only one bed in the bedroom. Also when going to the Briola compagny they only find a abandoned building. The compagny website, who was working just well in the morning doesn’t seems to exist, and the phone number is not working either. Even strange they can seems to join their family. And strange people are following them.
I have really love this book and can’t wait to read the sequel. It had keep me on the edge of my seat while I try to figure out the truth and who’s behind everything.
Wow! What a wild and crazy read. Poor Fiona and Miles have no idea what to think or how to process what is going on in their lives and neither do I. This book will definitely keep you on the edge on your seat and needing more. The book ends in a cliffhanger but it’s worth the read. This is my first book by Alice Reeds and I love the suspense and mystery.
First of all this story was interesting but oh so confusing, and by the end I was still scratching my head trying to figure out what was going on. The book cover was what first drew me to this book. The characters were wonderful, the storyline was captivating.
WHOA. I don’t… What just happened?!? This book was INSANE. I’m not quite sure what I was expecting—maybe a romance adventure about two teens surviving a plane crash? And well… it definitely IS that, but also SO MUCH MORE. My brain is still spinning and I can already tell I’m going to have to reread this to try and catch everything I missed the first time.
This is such a hard book to review because EVERYTHING is a clue and if I say too much I’ll give something important away. The book starts off deceptively straightforward. There’s Fiona, a unique spirit who has wonderfully blue hair and mad kickboxing skills. There’s Miles, a popular rich kid who makes Fiona’s life miserable. They’re on their way to Germany for an internship program until they crash land on an island and need to survive. Easy right?? HA! The next chapter rewinds to the hours leading up the crash and two timelines emerge that the book alternates between. Slowly, more information is revealed that makes you stop reading and say “…hey…wait second…” until you reach the end and your head implodes.
The way this was written was so great and I loved how it kind of tricks you into letting your guard down. I thought I knew exactly what was going on and stopped paying too much attention until I caught a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it word here and there that threw everything askew. It was so awesome how little things like that made you more and more unsettled until you couldn’t trust anything anymore.
And the same kind of slow-reveal treatment was used for Fiona and Miles, which I really enjoyed too. In the beginning I was pretty disconnected to their characters, but I was so curious about what was going on that I didn’t even mind. We slowly learn more about them and the story progresses though and I really loved getting to know them. It was like I was falling for them while they were falling for each other.
Plus, THAT ENDING!!!!!! GAHHH!!! Open-ended endings usually make me super salty as a reader, but I actually really liked this one! When it was over, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor and stop myself from making gasping sounds out loud.
FINAL WORD
What a crazy, fun read! This was nothing I was expecting and I mean that as a compliment. I’ve never been so happy to be confused. If you love mysteries with a bit of romance, you’ll love this.
Echoes. Where do I begin? Alice Reeds has managed to leave me speechless with this unusually mysterious read.
The book begins with Fiona and Miles, heading to an internship in Berlin. When their plane crashes on a deserted island, even though they were never friends at school, they find themselves having to rely on each other in order to try and find their way home. Paralleling this portion of the story, is a story of them arriving in Berlin. Why? How? When? That is what the entire book is about.
Obscure and cryptic are the best ways I can describe this one. There was nothing straight forward and the entire book is written in a very arcane vein. You will not know what is going on until the very end, and guess what, you still won’t. It seems this must be the beginning of a series of books, or at least a second one is on the way, as it ended abruptly on a serious cliff hanger. Echoes had plenty of action, suspense, mystery, and even some romance. It was overall well written, well plotted and I enjoyed the main characters.
It reminded me a bit of Dean Koontz’s Jane Hawk series, but for young adults. I enjoyed the confusing dance that occurred throughout, and I didn’t actually mind the abrupt ending, I just wish I had known going in that there would be more books to follow. I will hands down be reading the next book, hoping to find more answers to the unexplained chaos.
Trust no one… Fear everything.
This suspenseful and fast paced read had me captivated until the very last page. The characters and worldbuilding were simply on point!! Full of unexpected and mysterious twists and turns that you’ll find yourself biting your nails. It ended in such a weird way that I can only hope it means there will be a sequel.
