Sometimes the deepest scars are the ones that can’t be seen. Single mom Peyton Ward works three jobs to make ends meet. At Linear Tactical she’s surrounded by heroes on a regular basis…but none of them are hers. She thought she’d found one in Linear’s silent partner, and country music superstar, Cade Conner. She was wrong. Unintended wounds still cut as deep. Cade may not work day to day … deep.
Cade may not work day to day operations at Linear, but he takes the mission of the company he helped create—teaching survival intelligence and self-defense skills to the people who need them most—seriously. And finding out he’s wounded Peyton in the worst way possible weighs on him.
So when danger on two separate fronts closes in on her, he will damn well be by her side. Making sure they survive so he can right his personal wrongs.
He might not have been a Special Forces soldier, but Cade Conner knows how to fight. And Peyton is a woman worth fighting for.

Things happen in your life and you never know about it. Can you correct it 5 years later when you do find out and you realize all you have missed? Cade is certainly going to try and do that with Peyton.
A great read of misguided thoughts, actions, and deeds have kept them apart and now an unseen force wants to keep it that way. Can Cade save Peyton, prove what she thinks is wrong, and forge a happy ever after?
Once I started reading it I couldn’t stop.
Gah!
This is the series that just keeps on giving, one I never want to see ending.
Definitely one of my all time favourite series, with each book being unique in it’s own special way.
I love how the author seamlessly ties all the books together so you can see other couples perspectives from the same pivotal events.
This book sent me on a roller coaster ride of emotions rooting for them all, my god the characters were put through the wringer in this book.
Definitely another 5 plus star read from the author.
I adore second chance romances, and Cade and Peyton’s story checked all my requirements! There was young love and misunderstandings, however, rather than draw out a secret that would have caused issues later on (thank you, Janie!), I was thrilled when Peyton came clean with Cade early on, thus allowing an actual relationship to develop without hinderance. It made a powerful, emotional impact that had me devouring Echo well in to the night!
I received an arc and this is my honest review.
This seventh addition to this series has a solid, engaging plot with complex characters in the form of Peyton Ward and Cade O’Conner.
Peyton and Cade met in HS . Their artistic talents bonded them. But their backgrounds were totally different. Peyton lived in an abusive home , and Cade was born into wealth.
A few years later, before Peyton was due to leave for London to attend filming school, a night of passion changed the life of Peyton in more ways than not, while Cade believed he had been forgotten.
Assumptions were made in which the two had been hurt. Now five years later, Cade is back.
This story was a little different from the previous books. One was that the first few chapters presented the POV of Peyton and Cade of the same circumstances. Another was that though Cade was a financial supporter and friend of Linear Tactical , but not one of the active members. Lastly, Peyton and Cade were younger that the previous characters. Aside from the last 20% of the story, in which the action really occurred, this was more about relationships , family, misunderstanding, hope, and new beginnings.
This story was another one filled with heartbreaking moments as well as heartwarming ones with some action . Lastly, the cover is just gorgeous
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Well, Janie definitely has a way with words and puts them in wonderful and perfectly embellished stories as well. When Peyton’s been let down by the only person that ever made her feel loved in times she’d need him most, the pain is just to deep to be ever forgotten – even after 5 years of total radiosilence. Cade always wondered why Peyton never ever got in contact with him after she left for London.
A story of so many misunderstandings that cost both of them dearly – almost Peyton’s life and Cade the first 5 years of his daughters life… The dynamic between all the guys and girls is just a wonderful thing to read.
This is the 7th book of the Linear Tactical series. This is a standalone book, but better enjoyed if you’ve read the series as Peyton and little Jess are featured throughout the series. Peyton, the single, hardworking mom who works three jobs to make sure her daughter has everything she needs. She’s part of the LT family and Finn’s son, Ethan, and Jess are the best of buddies. Cade, the superstar country singer, who also happens to be a multimillionaire and a silent partner in LT.
I have been waiting for Peyton’s and Jess’s story. Janie does not disappoint! Peyton and Cade were friends in high school, her the shy, quiet freshman; him the popular football player. He went to Nashville to pursue his country singing. He works hard and makes it, but is called home when his father passes away. He and Peyton have a wonderful night together before he leaves to go back to Nashville and she’s set to go to London on a film directing full scholarship at a prestigious London school.
Things, for Peyton, don’t turn out the way she dreamed and she believes that Cade has just turned his back on her and wants nothing to do with her. She’s devastated. Cade feels that Peyton left for London and decided she no longer wanted anything to do with him. He’s extremely hurt.
Janie is an incredible writer and the way she weaves this story is so good. The cast of characters is awesome. Peyton, Jess, Cade, Cecelia are all very believable and I felt their fear, hurt, anger, all their emotions as they worked through issues and misunderstandings. With each book in the LT series, I think it just can’t get any better, then Janie shows me how wrong I am!! I love the LT world so much and each book keeps pulling me in more and more!
Disclosure: I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest opinion. My opinion: If you love romantic suspense, then you really need to read this book!
Wow! This book has it all – the emotions, the drama and the suspense. I started the book at 8:30 last night and finished at around 2:30 this morning. I kept going because it is so, so good. The storyline between Peyton and Cade is tragic and yet, beautiful. Peyton is full of grace, strength, determination and love for her four year old daughter, Jess. Cade is a great guy who made his singing career priority even as his heart beats for Peyton which, leads to some serious regrets and a determined need for redemption. I held my breath waiting for this couple to be together and find their happy ending while there were people who were out to cause them harm.
The amazing cast of characters, including all of the Linear Tactical team, just continue to show what good, honest and loyal people look like. You will fall in love with them. In this book, the kids steal the scenes. Jess is a riot with what comes out of her mouth. The little genius is priceless. I’m especially drawn to eight old Ethan, Finn and Charlie’s son who adores Jess. He is wise beyond his years and the man to man scene with Cade had me in tears it is so sweet.
This book is extraordinary in every sense. It is a warm, heartfelt and inspiring story while being entertaining, full of suspense and love.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
