“The thrills are nonstop, the alien cultures and races are well developed and fascinating, and there’s just the right amount of humor to keep the whole thing fizzing.” — Analog Science Fiction and FactReese Eddings has enough to do keeping her rattletrap merchant vessel, the TMS Earthrise, profitable enough to feed herself and her crew. So when a mysterious benefactor from her past shows up … benefactor from her past shows up demanding she rescue a man from slavers, her first reaction is to run for the hills. Unfortunately, she did promise to repay the loan. But she didn’t think it would involve tangling with pirates over a space elf prince…
Book 1 of the Her Instruments trilogy is a rollicking adventure set in the expansive Pelted universe, and kicks off an epic space opera series where the fate of worlds hangs in the balance. Fans who enjoyed Firefly or Andromeda will like this series.

The story was fun and action packed. The plot was based on an interesting premise rather the same old dystopian plot device. It was also great to have a main character be a person of color. The author obviously thinks outside the box.
Slow read not my cup of tea
Great to have characters that were biracial.
couldnt get into it, story didnt grab me..
A bit slow at first, but got very interesting quickly.
I read all three books in this searies, would recommend to anyone who enjoys a story that keeps changing and revealing the characters evolution.
This is a FUN read with lovable characters and a story with a different twist on reality. I couldn’t put it down and have continued on to the additional three books of the story.
original characters and universe kept me turning
I loved this first book and quickly acquired the next two in the series and a novella, enjoying them all. It was entertaining from the first page to the last; I could not put it down. Such an original universe to get lost in, but easy to follow the whys and wherefores of how this universe works. There was a lot of action, but the story moved quickly without bogging down in endless battles, just enough to keep the story moving. Thoroughly entertaining.
