Then the mother hires Spenser to get the boy back. But as soon as Spenser senses the lay of the land, he decides to do some kidnapping of his own. With a contract out on his life, he heads for the Maine … his life, he heads for the Maine woods, determined to give a puny 15 year old a crash course in survival and to beat his dangerous opponents at their own brutal game.

Spenser can always be counted on for the witty comment, even in dire circumstances. Not a difficult read and always keeps you interested.
.
One of my favorite Spenser books. A kidnapping of a young teen leads to a couple of horrible parents who use the boy to score points against each other. Disgusted that the teen is being used as a prize and being taught nothing about life, Spenser decides to have the boy stay with him as they journey to the boonies to build a cabin on some land …
I do enjoy Parker’s books. Very entertaining story.
not his best
I re-read this book every year. It’s one of my favorite Robert B. Parker Spenser books.
As with most of Parker’s ‘Spenser’ series, a good read…
This book was a bit different than the usual Spenser book. While there was still witty comments and action, the feel of the book was different, but I really enjoyed seeing “this side” of Spenser.
I’m a very long time fan of the Parker books and read everything with his name on the cover.
This is the second time I read this book. It is a wonderful read. The Spenser character never disappoints.
Touching
Loved it! Classic Parker!
Parker’s character, Spenser, is my all-time favorite!
Not my favorite format. This was a TV script not literature.
Love the Spenser character series that were written by the late Robert Parker. Enjoyed everyone of them.
