Pierce Chamberlain, Earl of Wainthorpe has set out to destroy the man he holds responsible for his mother’s death. The time is now at the card table. There is however a big surprise added to the pot. Will that change his mind?.
Bianca Salisbury is the typical poor relation dependant on the whims of a distant cousin. Her life has had more than her share of bad luck and heartache. This time is likely to see her ruined completely.
Our hero is one of the “Wicked Earls” and has a reputation as a rogue, but he is actually a big softy at heart. The card game is going to be the talk of the town.
This book will draw you in from the start. Our character´s histories play a huge part in the people they have become. It is very emotional at times and lots of fun.
We have lots of secondary characters that I´m sure we will see more of in other books in the series. I look forward to reading about them.
I think the Wicked Earl’s Club series was an excellent idea – twelve novellas by twelve different authors and they can be read in any order. I enjoyed this one, but it really was pretty uneventful. It started off with an exciting card game, but then, it leveled out. I do like that it took place over a longer period of time so you can see that they had time to get to know each other and you could believe that they fell in love.
Pierce, the Earl of Wainthorpe has wanted revenge on Bertram Normand since he was eight years old – and it is finally within his grasp. Bertram will be ruined after tonight’s card game – and victory will be sweet. Everyone, including Pierce, is aghast when Bertram adds his ward to the wager. What is Pierce to do – accept the wager or reject it? If he rejects it, he knows Bertram will just sell her off to some unscrupulous scoundrel. So, he accepts but stipulates that Bertram MUST sign over his guardianship of his ward to Pierce.
Bianca Salisbury has had insult after insult after insult piled on by Bertram, but betting her in a card game is beyond the pale. She knows Wainthorpe’s reputation and knows there will be absolutely no way to salvage her reputation – she is ruined.
Pierce is not the rogue everyone thinks he is and his main concern is saving Bianca and figuring out how to save her reputation. She doesn’t believe that and makes it as difficult for him as she can. They are each attracted to the other, but she knows she cannot give in to that or she will truly be ruined in deed as well as thought.
In order to keep her safe from Bertram, he sneaks her off to his country estate to stay until he can get her legal guardianship straightened out and figure out what to do. Their time together, getting to know each other, blossoms into love.
This was not my favorite of the series so far, but it was still a thoroughly enjoyable read!

Part of the Wicked Earl’s Club series. I enjoyed this story. I fell in love with Pierce along with Bianca. Despite his public personna, Pierce was a man after my own heart. The romance between them was as sweet as could be, and he truly cared about her future. I like Bianca’s fortitude and acceptance of her circumstances. I loved this book, highly recommend it, and look forward to more of the Wicked Earls.
I received a copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.
Listened to the audiobook as well, and Joff Manning brought these wonderful characters to life.
I loved the story of Pierce and Bianca! Even as she was with how she’s been treated her whole life, she wasn’t going to let anyone or anything take advantage of her. Pierce was playing the game of the rogue but Bianca was still able to see past that and fall in love. The story was written beautifully! I was gifted a copy of this book and am extremely glad I read this!
I Loved this book. I read the introductory Book The Wicked Earl’s book and was totally hooked. I love that Collette Cameron participated. I am excited to read the others!
The Earl of Wainthorpe, Pierce is half Munda (his mother was a Munda Princess) and half English. When he was young a soldier killed his mother. That soldier is now a Baron and guardian of Bianca Salisbury. During a game, (which Pierce is sure to win) Pierce bets more money than the Baron has. Pierce has him dead to rights by buying up all the baron’s debt and won’t stop until the man is ruined. What Peirce wasn’t expecting was the baron wagering his ward. Now Pierce knows he must win and he must take over guardianship so that he can protect Bianca from the wretched man. He vows to protect her, but who will protect his heart! Bianca hides her feeling behind her witty bantering, yet is very afraid what happened to her mother will happen to her. She fights the attraction but knows what her heart wants. Bianca also has some hilarious talents: she can sew her clothes from the darndest things. You will enjoy this Wicked Earl immensely!
I was gifted this book and am happy to say that it did not disappoint. Ms Cameron has done it again. It is full of humour, caring and love. It is a book that keeps you smiling and I love the way she constantly uses amusing phrases to keep the characters on a very human everyday level. This book will keep you reading just to experience the joy Ms Cameron brings to all her books. I also enjoyed the fact that it is a relatively clean read not taking away from the sexual tension and sexy hero. It was nice to read a book that has all the tension and longing and the romance without pages of sexual description.
After reading the prequel novella The Wicked Earls’ Club, I was eager to read the individual stories of this series. This installment did not disappoint. It highlights the legal situation of women at the time, being possessions of their fathers, husbands or other male head of the family. With three much older half-sisters, Pierce has a nobler attitude towards women, spurring him to help Bianca. There is some obligatory eavesdropping of only partial discussions leading to the usual misunderstandings in this genre. This is a shortish, entertaining read.
I received an advance copy, which I voluntarily read and reviewed.
An idyllic Regency romance with a swoon-worthy earl, a damsel in distress, and a vile villain. What more do you need? Loved it!
Pierce wants revenge for his family but doesn’t expect to have an innocent young lady drawn in. The story will have you reading cover to cover and I recommend this book.
: I enjoyed this story that is filled with fun, love and a little betting/gambling. This amusing story that progressed steadily, has well developed characters with witty/humorous banter and a fun developing plot. I enjoyed watching them fall in love as one tries to win a bet and the other tries to win her heart. This story has a very happy and satisfying HEA!!
I was gifted a copy of this book, but I also purchased my own copy of it. Cameron is an extremely talented author. So far, I have loved every book – have even read several of them a number of times. But something fell flat with this story. Although very well written, it lacked a passion and heat that I’ve come to admire in Cameron’s writing. I absolutely loved Pierce the hero. He is surprisingly gentle and warm throughout the book. I loved the relationship he has with his interfering sisters. I think the story fell a bit flat with the heroine Bianca. She is described as beautiful but she is very self-deprecating. And I didn’t feel that much connection or magnetism between Pierce and Bianca. Their first kiss took me totally by surprise. However, Cameron’s description of Pierce was extremely well written. “Her curious dark honey toned gaze slowly roved over Pierce’s bare chest and shoulders before following the thin trail of dark hair from his abdomen to where it disappeared beneath the sheets. Instead of blushing or looking away as most proper young ladies would have done, she met his gaze…”
Even though, this wasn’t one of my favorite Cameron books, I still recommend it. She is a master author and story teller.
4.5 Stars
Pierce Chamberlain, the Earl of Wainthorpe is definitely the star of this book, I loved him. Underneath the carefully constructed façade of a unrepentant rake beats a loving and caring heart.
Pierce has a mission in life, that is to destroy Bertram Normand, the newly minted Baron Fairfax. Pierce hold Fairfax responsible for the death of his mother twenty years ago in India. After careful planning, he finally has Fairfax in position to ruin him. He has purchased all his vowels and debts and is currently engaged in card game that will finally break him. Fairfax is sure that his luck is about to change and wagers not only his unentailed estate but his ward too!
Pierce is taken aback, he was not aware Fairfax had a ward, nor did he expect to be intrigued by the lovely young woman. He knows that if he does not accept the wager, she will most likely be sold to someone else. Wanting to protect her, he agrees to the wager and makes Fairfax write up a note giving Pierce full guardianship of his ward, Bianca Salisbury.
Bianca is mortified, orphaned at a young age, she lived with her aging aunt and uncle at Elmsford manor until Fairfax inherited the estate. She accompanied him to London, hoping to find work, but she never anticipated that Bertram would stoop so low as to sell her! She tries to reason with him and when that fails, she flees to the ladies retiring room. There she meets three women and when they learn of her fate and their brother’s part in it – come to her rescue.
Pierce is awoken the next morning by the “trio” and they blindside him with demands to know what he was thinking wagering for Bianca. He asks where Bianca is, because he spent the better part of the night looking for her. He is relieved to learn that she is safe with his sister Nora and then is shocked when she walks into his bedroom.
Pierce demands the ladies leave and promises to answer all their questions. He tells them to return to Nora’s house and he will meet them there. But first he needs to find out if he really is Bianca’s guardian and what he can do to protect her from Fairfax.
He arrives at Nora’s and tells his sisters what he has learned. He must apply to the court to be named her guardian and asks Nora if her husband would be willing to take guardianship if the courts deem Pierce as unsuitable. Nora suggests Pierce marry her and he finds he is not at all opposed to that idea. As they are waiting for Bianca to join them, Pierce spies her leaving and chases after her. Bianca overheard part of the conversation and assumes that Pierce means to dump her on his sister – she refuses to be a burden to anyone and takes off.
When Pierce catches up with her, she realizes how ungrateful she is behaving. She knows he is only trying to help her and agrees to go to Halverstone (his hunting lodge/country estate) and give him time to sort everything out. She is overcome by everything that has happened and begins to cry. Pierce comforts he and they share a kiss. When she comes to her senses, she slaps him and tells him she will not be one of his strumpets and there will be no more kissing! Pierce is delighted by her and tells her she will beg for his kisses. They make a bet – one month if she has not begged for his kiss, he will give her Elmsford manor and leave her in peace.
They spend the next few weeks getting to know each other and Pierce begins to woo her. He is weakening her resolve and she knows she is falling in love with him. But Bianca knows first hand what happens to women that give into men, she is scared that she will end up like her mother, alone and ruined. So when Pierce suggests they marry, Bianca turns him down, quite cruelly. Deeply hurt, Pierce starts to walk away, but tells her she is welcome to Elmsford, but he will not let her go until he is sure Fairfax is no longer a threat to her. He then tells her why he hates Fairfax. Then he walks away. But he looks back and sees her reaction and hope blooms in his heart.
Bianca knows she loves him and has pushed him away to protect herself, but now she wonders if love is worth the risk and if her cruel comments have ruined any chance she has for happiness.
I really loved Pierce, he was the perfect hero in my mind and when Bianca hurt him, I hated her. She does redeem herself, but I didn’t forgive as quickly as Pierce. The book was well written, had an interesting story, delightful secondary characters, a couple of warmish love scenes, a villain that gets his due and a very touching declaration scene. It is the third book in the Wicked Earls Club series, but could easily be read as a stand alone title.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that was provided to me by the author*
What to do when you are being used as a gambling prize by your guardian? Pray the other party loses? Pray they win because you can run away and take control of your life? Bianca Salisbury is faced with that dilemma when her guardian, Bertram Normand offers her up when he has no other assets to gamble. Unbeknownst to Bianca though, is that Pierce, the Earl of Wainthorpe and a member of the Wicked Earls Club, just wants to ruin Bertram due to him having a hand in his mother’s death from years ago. But for Pierce, what starts out as a wager he knows he will win, becomes a purpose for him to help Bianca escape her guardian and provide her protection. In the classic, things are not always as they appear, Pierce is determined with the help of his three sisters, to protect her from further abuse. The more time he spends around her he realizes she is no simpering Miss and there is an attraction that sparks almost immediately. Read this delightful novella as only Colleen Cameron can write and be prepared to be enthralled to the last page…

Oh this series just keeps getting better. Pierce is known as a rakehell, Bianca is a strong, level headed woman. Their attraction sizzles from their first encounter when Pierce is determined to wrest her from her cousin Fairfax. Their verbal spats are so very entertaining. Pierce is anything but the
“Jaded, hardened, cynical uncaring” rake in fact he’s devoted to his 3 sisters & adored babies, he also is so caring of Bianca & his courtship is very endearing. I also liked it that characters from the author’s other books made an appearance. I can’t wait for the next Earl to leave the club
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Earl Of Wainthorpe by Collette Cameron was just wonderful! The Wicked Earl’s Club series has been written by 12 different authors and also this is the first book I have read of Collette’s…but it wont be the last, that is for sure. Collette writes in a way that you bond with the characters, her descriptions are so visual and the anticipation will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a stay up and read all night book. Trust me when I say you will not be able to put this book down. I also find Collette writing is quite witty and I love a book that makes me laugh. This book, as I said, has anticipation, gambling, neglectful relatives, trust issues, pride, a challenge, the love of a family, interfering sisters, intelligence, even a cat named Miss Millie and of course love. I highly recommend this book, you won’t be disappointed. Go back in time to 1817 London with Pierce, The Earl of Wainthrope and Bianca Salisbury.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
I was gifted a copy of this book. I loved it. I didn’t want to put it down or end. Highly recommend this book and this author.
I really enjoyed this story – those Wicked Earls have all lived up to their club name so far! Pierce, Earl of Wainthorpe, has the reputation of being a rake & rogue and lives up to his name in a “winner take all” wager with his foe – part of the wager is winning his foe’s Ward, Bianca Salisbury’. The fire & ice between this couple is such fun & the sub-characters are so lovable (Pierce’s 3 meddling sisters, Bianca’s maid, Mr & Mrs. Digby). I love Collette Cameron’s books & this was another winner, in my opinion. I was gifted an advanced copy of this book to read.
I received this book as a gift from the author. This is not the first book I have read from Collette Cameron, I have been a fan for many years and I am delighted that she is trusting me to review her books before they are published.
There is nothing better than a rogue who falls I love and no one writes a better tale than Collette. I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down until I was finished. Pierce and Bianca make the perfect couple. Then of course there are the hilarious meddling trio. You have to read the book to find out about those. I adore the fact that the rogue is the one unexpectedly working harder to gain what he wants. There are lots of sweet surprises to discover.
A wager gone wild sees Pierce, Earl of Wainthorpe, member of the Wicked Earls Club, with a beautiful woman as his ward. A man who flouts every convention the ton holds dear, must now decide how to handle this unexpected encumbrance without ruining her reputation. Ah, but will this encumbrance prove to be more challenging than anything he’s every done and will he lose his heart in the biggest wager of his life?
Bianca Salisbury was taken in by her aunt and uncle when she lost her mother at an early age; now they’re gone, and she’s forced to rely on her odious cousin. Until he bets her in a card wager and loses to a notorious rake. With no where else to go she endeavors to make the best of a bad situation and to win a bet with the handsome rogue but what does she lose in the process.
Collette Cameron continues to amaze me with her talented writing. Add Ms. Cameron’s wit, a trio of busybody sisters, and a push and very pregnant cat and you have a gem of a story.
I read this book in the boxed set. This story was touching, witty, and loving. The characters were wonderfully written and I loved them immediately. The story flows smoothly and at a good pace. I didn’t want to put it down. Collette is such a brilliant writer and never disappoints. I highly recommend her books.
