Christopher Roker has been a soldier for years, shortly after Waterloo he receives a letter from his father telling him his elder twin Carson has broken his neck falling from his horse. So Kit is now the Earl of Sunderland. Kit returns home to find his widowed sister in law Julia is pregnant so he may be able to go back to being a soldier if she gives birth to a boy. Grace Beaumont has been the rock in the Beaumont household for five years since her mother died giving birth to Samuel. Grace finds she enjoys the freedom and power of her new status. Kit & Grace shared a dance at Carson & Julia’s wedding & they were both attracted to each other.
Grace, her father & Sammy travel to Falsbury Castle to support Julia & there Kit & Grace meet again.
Another lovely read in the Wicked Earls series, Kit & Grace are both strong characters but they are both caring & kind. They are immediately attracted to each other & whilst this attraction grows they also become very good friends whilst they fall in love. The other characters are also very well portrayed especially Sammy who is delightful & his enthusiasm helps heal the whole family. The author is new to me but after reading this I’ll be seeking out more of her books
Another The Wicked Earl’s Club novella with 8 to go. Each has been a very enjoyable read so far. Nice story, an easy read. Knowing each is going to be another member of the club makes one look forward to the next.
The Earl Of Sunderland by Aubrey Wynne is a fairly short historical romance, a perfect choice for those with limited reading time. Ms. Wynne has given us a well-written book full of outstanding characters. Grace wants only to care for her father and brother after her mother’s death. Kit is a military man, forced into being the earl when his brother dies. Their story has many ups and downs, twists and turns. There is plenty of drama, humor and spice to keep readers glued to this awesome book. I loved every page of The Earl Of Sunderland and look forward to my next read by Aubrey Wynne. The Earl Of Sunderland is book 4 of The Wicked Earl’s Club Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Nuanced, Well-Drawn, Realistic, and Empathetic Characters
Over the years, I have read a number of books by Aubrey Wynne, including both her historical and contemporary romances. I’ll admit to being partial to her historical romances. Like her others of this subgenre, I found this novel to be an absolute delight. While the hero and heroine were well drawn and nuanced, she was also able to imbue the secondary characters with personality and compelling traits, making them much more than just background characters as often happens in romance. I liked how the heroine was both strong and vulnerable, each trait growing out of her background and family history. I quite enjoyed the hero and heroine’s first meeting at a ball in London where they both seemed to appreciate each other’s strength of character. Of course, nothing goes smoothly for them, and the circumstances become quite complex. but what I liked in particular was that Ms. Wynne didn’t make anyone in particular a villain, melodramatic, or overly angry, as often happens when complex family situations arise in novels. Rather, the characters’ interactions and reactions seemed realistic and just right. A thorough delight, which I highly recommend.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Not Wicked at all. A Clean Romance Novel.
Grace Beaumont & Christopher Roker “Kit” Story was Good, it could have been better. The Wicked Earl’s Club was not mentioned a lot in the Story. When it was, it only had some of the old & current Wicked Earl’s. A clean Romance & a disappointing ending.
