Dying for Rain picked up just where second book, Fighting for Rain, left off. I loved getting more Wes and Rain. There were so much happening. Nothing was slow. Each character that was plotted within the story was there for a reason. A good portion of the story, I was so damn emotional. The change in the rules… The change in the people… The blood was that was shed unnecessarily. It was sad. So damn sad.
I wanted Rain to step up a little more as a woman during post-April 23rd. Can she do it? Can she say f*ck em and survive the rest? Rain didn’t disappoint. She was new and improvement because of the situations thrust upon her. I wanted her to endure the struggle and fight back. Wes… my main man Wes was awesome like always. He was a boyfriend that will stick by you when the end of the world becomes your new beginning.
What a thrill ride. This entire series was freaking fantastic. I cannot recommend highly enough!
ARC kindly provided. All thoughts in this review are my own.
I picked up book one of this series as my first read of 2020. I had been eyeing it forever, even owned the paperback. I knew books two and three were coming soon so I finally jumped in. It’s insane that it has only been 24 days since I started this because I feel like I have lived an entire lifetime in between the pages of these books.
So I can’t tell you a ton about books two and three because spoilers, duh. I do not want to ruin this epic story for you. I honestly wasn’t sure how all of this would play out and I loved jumping into books two and three without even reading their synopses. Book one you find Rain in a bit of a pickle with the world very close to ending.. April 23. Rain’s world collides with Wes’s world and all of the shenanigans take place. I honestly do not even know how to properly describe the books in this series. All I know to say is, just read it.
If you love romance and you love stories with a unique take on the every day romance you read then just pick this series up. You will not want to, or be able to put it down. I had finished book two and it ends in a fashion that will have you screaming to the Heavens that you need book three immediately. But book three was not available when I finished it… so I join a spoiler group on facebook that day. Flash forward to that night and no joke, it was like 2:30 in the morning and I was watching NCIS:LA and daydreaming about the events of book two and what it could all mean when I have what I considered to be an AH HA! moment… so I immediately go to the spoiler group to get other’s opinions and take on the situation. I just love stories like that.. they pull you out of your real life every day reality and get you to talking with other readers and speculating. Those are always the ones that stick with me. Because BB Easton has taken something I do on a regular basis and made it fresh and exciting again. She kicked the mundane over and said enough of that.. now read this. I’m actually very sad that it is over. I really hope that she plans to do something as out of the box as this series again. I know she has a new, no questions asked reader in me.
I have thoughts and feelings about specific characters and events in this book but I don’t want to go into them in fear of accidentally spoiling other readers. I will say I was 97% satisfied with how everything turned out. There was only one thing that I wish had went differently. But, I just read the stories… not write them. I truly loved this series as a whole though. I thought it was action packed, thought provoking, feeling inducing, gut clenching, heart breaking, fist pumping, head shaking, and heart melting. I felt for the characters. I wanted to yell at them and cheer them on. I wanted to pick them up and shake them, and then hug them. Just yes, this series is a yes. A definite recommend. You have to pick this series up if you haven’t already.BB Easton
At the risk of being trendy, BB Easton DID THE DAMN THANG with the final book in The Rain Trilogy. The ending of book 2 was a doozy but I knew—I KNEW—BB would deliver a completely satisfying ending wrapped up with a pretty bow on top. Wrapped in skull and cross-bones paper of course, but still. Dying for Rain isn’t full of nothing but unicorns shooting rainbows out of their butts because it’s REAL to the whole story, and this grand story has been anything but frivolous.
I have to say it again in this review for the final time: Rain and Wes stole the show. Well honestly, Rainbow Fucking Williams had the last act in this story. Reading Rain conquering her self-doubt, and actually desiring a future and fighting like a warrior to get it…WHOA! Marvelous. Her character arc is rewarding like nothing else. She accepts her limitations—not as a fault like before—but as a human being with true emotions. She seeks help when she needs it, and she leans into her growing strength when she must. And Wes (actual swoon here) is as loyal and protective as ever. Our OG survivor has a small blip where he seemingly gives up because he thinks it’s the only way, but call it a true brain fart because he very quickly gets back on track with his fundamental mantra of survival for himself and for Rain. The incredible journey of how Rain and Wes come back together, and their character growth in this book, mean everything to me as a reader.
BB likes to keep us on our toes for sure, so she sprinkles in a fun cameo here, a surprising character twist there, and a panty-melting scene yonder. There are still old characters we would sort of/maybe/absolutely love to maim, and there are new characters that we grow to love quickly. Dying for Rain definitely has BB’s signature humor delivered intelligently because come on, even when the world around us is terrifying, we need the jokes! But the state of the world and how it came to be that way is sobering, and there is an awful lot of true pain and heartbreak too. It’s not only real to the story, it’s downright believable to the anarchy that would occur if this happened in real life. It’s scary, but quite possible. People suck man. They really do. But through all the muck, Dying for Rain shows us that some humans are okay and humanity itself can bring hope. And that is undeniably wonderful. This entire trilogy deserves something far better than stars, whatever that might be. I will recommend reading these books for all time. They are so far beyond what you might think. And holy crap one more thing—can you even imagine how fantastic of a movie this series would make??!! AHHH!!!
The government has cracked down on life-saving measures, and anyone getting caught is getting executed publicly on tv. Wes and Rain have come so far, but they can’t give up now, not when they need to get the world back to normal from all the craziness that has plagued the nation over the past few months. If they don’t fight back, things will only get worse.
Where I felt Rain had become a bit weaker in book 2, she re-found her strength, and it has shined through. They are such a fun couple who have had a lot of reasons to fight, fight for their rights, and for each other. There have been so many surprises on the way and the road has been so difficult for them, but they both come out stronger and wiser. This has been a really fun trilogy with and Easton finished really strong with this one. Nicely done.
Dying for Rain was the perfect conclusion to this epic story of love and survival in a vivid, gritty and broken world. I could not wait to get my hands on this book after the shocking cliffhanger from Fighting for Rain. I was dying of anticipation, I had to find out what was next for Wes and Rain.
Wes and Rain’s story was dark, intense, gut wrenching, yet at the same time, a beautiful story about survival and love. BB Easton’s writing is captivating. She immediately hooks you into this dystopian world and creates these fascinating and unique characters. Characters that I have come to be seriously emotionally attached to. This story was the perfect ending for these two’s journey.
This entire series is original, angst-filled and action packed. There was never a dull moment and it satisfied every craving I had for an out of this world read. It does not get any better than this! An absolute must read trilogy!
Right from the beginning, this book set of the waterworks. We begin where Fighting for Rain left off.
Wes has been taken by the government to pay for his life-saving crime.
Can Rain survive on her own without Wes at her side? Will she want to? Is there any escape from this punishment and this regime?
This series is without a doubt the most exciting and thrilling I’ve ever read. It’s monumental and is in a class all of its own.
This last instalment turns everything on its head. Friend becomes foe and foe becomes ally. Who will survive? It all leads to an ending of apocalyptic proportions.
Wes, Wes, Wes! Simply my hero! I loved his rough character to bits.
I was ecstatic to finally see Rain finally fight back. But, will it be enough?
I can and will read this series again and again!!! Love, love, LOVE!
There’s nothing like a heart-racing, one-of-a-kind story that keeps you at the edge of your seat, begging for more. This series did that to me and more. It’s original, angst-filled, action-packed deliciousness. There was never a dull moment and it satisfied every craving I had for an out-of-this-world read. You just can’t get any better than this!
A million apocalyptic stars!
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I dove right into Dying for Rain as I have been dying to know how this series ends! B.B. Easton wrote an epic conclusion that had me on the edge of my seat from page 1 to book complete. Wes and Rain are everything and you won’t regret a moment spent reading their story. Thank you for these books!
I’m not sure how to truly express my feelings on this book, so please bear with me because this review may be all over the place.
For starters, if you’ve ever read anything by BB Easton (and I mean, ANYTHING – her books, her “about me”, her book synopses, even her comments to fans), then you know that what she writes is 100% from her heart. Everything is truly authentic BB. I read that the idea for this trilogy came to her in a dream, and her writing has allowed us all experience that dream. This book.. it’s captivating, mind blowing, action-packed, FUNNY, and heartwarming. The goosebumps start with her dedication page, and they stay present throughout the book.
Something that I’ve always found to be a quality of a great book is when you actually feel like you are in the book, as if you can imagine being in the pages with the characters. In Dying for Rain, I really felt like I was in post-apocalyptic Franklin (Fucklin) Springs. The elements of these scenes were so real. The locations all were described perfectly and set the stage for each act – Plaza Park, Pritchard Park Mall, Burger Palace, Fuckabee Foods, even more intimate places like the Williams’ house, police station, Channel 11 Action News van, and Governor Steele’s office – I could envision them perfectly!
Dying for Rain begins smack in the middle of the scene where Fighting for Rain left off, but in Rain’s POV. All questions were answered and justice was truly served.
Netflix made BB’s successful “44 Chapters about 4 Men” into a show, and I think this trilogy would DEFINITELY make a great movie.
Deep Breaths!! The Epic Finale of the Rain Trilogy is finally Here!!! We start right off where the jaw dropping cliffhanger left us in fighting for rain. In this new world what will become of Rain and Wes? Will they be able to prevail on top or is this new way of living going to be the end of them forever? Right out of the gate I was entranced and could not put this down. I’ve fallen hard for Wes and Rain. You will go through every emotion possible during this magnificent end to this trilogy! I won’t say too much in case you are waiting for all the books to release before reading however, I will say it is a must read series and what are you waiting for! Bravo!! “Supplies.Shelter. Self Defense.” Never forget! Told in dual POV
When I finished Fighting for Rain I really had no idea what to expect for the conclusion. To be perfectly honest, I was still all jacked up on Mountain Dew and kind of felt like Edward Norton in Fight Club when he wanted to breathe fire and destroy something beautiful. But I was still empowered in a sense because I was given everything I needed to survive…
Now, after reading Dying for Rain I feel like the one from Mean Girls with all the feelings and wanted to make cupcakes out of Rainbows and Wes’s smiles that we could all eat.
Rain really finds her footing in this installment. Even with all the betrayal and mutiny afoot, she was still able to make new found friendships and alliances, even if they came in unexpected places. She and Wes were together even when they weren’t and explosive in the rare moments they were allowed.
“Thats the thing about life after April 23. When you fall in love at the end of the world, you live everyday like its your last.”
BB Easton never ceases to amaze me with her story telling ability. Though this trilogy needs to be read in order, each installment reads in a different direction. I was able to experience every step of this journey and while I know it’s all part of dream, I will never look at a McBurger joint the same and I have developed my own list of what I may need to survive an apocalypse.
Perfect series to start the New Year.
