And you thought dying once would be hard…On the morning before her 67th death, it is business as usual for agent Jesse Sullivan: meet with the mortician, counsel soon-to-be-dead clients, and have coffee while reading the latest regeneration theory. Jesse dies for a living, literally. Because of a neurological disorder, she is one of the rare people who can serve as a death surrogate, dying so … surrogate, dying so others don’t have to.
Although each death replacement is different, the result is the same: a life is saved, and Jesse resurrects days later with sore muscles, new scars, and another hole in her memory. But when Jesse is murdered and becomes the sole suspect in a federal investigation, more than her freedom and sanity are at stake. She must catch the killer herself–or die trying.
Dying for a Living is the first book in Kory M. Shrum’s gripping contemporary fantasy series. If you like page-turning action, tough as nails heroines, and perfectly-paced suspense, then you’ll love this “hilarious” and “supernaturally fantastic” ride.

The heroine is sarcastic and unique. Her personal issues are traumatic and relatable. It ends on a happy ending that might not last, because there is so much at stake beyond being reunited with her sweetheart.
Series offer with half the story told. Ok story, but wish e publishers would stop with partial stories.
The book had a very interesting twist and was pretty fast paced. I Purchased more but they devolved into sex adventures so I stopped reading
Not very engaging. Made it through a few chapters.
like series books. not for young readers because of some sex and death
Illogical. The basic concept is lethally flawed. Author does not realize that the reason she gives for being unable/unwilling to provide death replacement service for a terminal cancer patient actually applies to everyone who dies. We die when our bodies are not longer able to do those things that keep us alive: circulate blood, oxygenate blood, …
I couldn’t get through this one. The protagonist’s angst seemed selfish and immature to me rather than compelling!
Although I felt the the story line pretty unbelievable. This was an entertaining read.
An unusual plot, with characters that are well written. Upon finishing it, I instantly wanted to get the next in the series. The characters became real … and friends I wanted to keep “visiting”. I seldom give 5 star reviews, but liked pretty much everything about this.
Didn’t provide enough background information on the paranormal aspects. Really wanted to like it but just had a hard time getting in to it. Will not read the second in the series.
I appreciated the first really original world setting that I have read in a very long time. I also liked the way the author gave us characters with a somewhat fluid sexuality without getting ‘preachy’. Highly recommended.
Interesting concept that was fun to see unfolding before my eyes
Such a different storyline. Nothing I would have thought of. Such imagination. A,very interesting book!
I liked this book; great well-written characters with a plot full of interesting ideas. Good book
Jesse has a really tough job: midnight until the time she dies, saving someone else’s life. Talk about a hard way to make a living! Fortunately for her, she doesn’t stay dead permanently, but coming back to life and recovery is worse than a hangover – rigor mortis is really unpleasant. Unfortunately for her, someone is trying to kill her …
When one thinks of zombies, they think of the Day of the Dead type of creature or Walking Dead beasts roaming the land looking for brains. Well, not to be a spoiler, it’s nothing like that at all.
Jesse Sullivan is kick-ass. From the first page I was enamored by her smart mouth, and almost blasé attitude about life. Her sexuality is intense and …
I really enjoyed this book and am looking for more by this author
I couldn’t put this down. A very original idea, well thought out. I would recommend getting the three-book set as you’re going to want to read more about Jesse and her team.
I cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone else read these books. While they are in fact, quite good, they are also quite addictive. Once started, you won’t want to stop. Normal daily life? What an inconvenience! I just wanna read these books! Beware. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
I couldn’t get past the first chapter!! I love to read and this book just didn’t capture my attention in the first couple of pages. it didn’t make me want to learn more about the characters, needless to say I didn’t finish reading it.
