The Marcello family is everything to Andino. He was raised to obey the orders of the boss and never question. His uncle Dante is now retiring and has entrusted Andino as the heir to succeed him as boss. Although this moves surprises Andino, he realizes he is the logical successor to lead his family. Only one problem. The job comes with rules and tradition. It requires a level of sacrifice he never thought existed. He must decide.
Loving a woman from outside the family was never his intention. One look at Haven was all it took for Andino to lose his heart to this woman. She is an independent and hardworking business owner totally unconnected to the Cosa Nostra or the Italian community. Oh, did I also mention she occasionally strips and dances are her strip club? This would never make her a suitable wife for the boss of the Marcello family.
Deeply moving look at the daily decisions members of this Mafia family and those affected by them experience. They are human beings with a different perspective on protecting those who are part of their family. Although brutal in their actions to enforce their control and power, in the end, they are still human beings ruled by traditions and the rigors protecting others dictate on them.
Can hardly wait for the next book in this series. The lives these characters lead consumes me.
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
I am REALLY glad that I got to know Andino better in Duty because I was not a fan of his from how he treated Catherine but now that I understand him better I can say he’s not half bad. He’s a loving son, a good made man and great best friend (cousin) to John. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for John. His love for John and Snaps is what won me over. He was happy making great money and being a capo but his uncles and father had different idea for his future in la famiglia. He was to be a boss in training and was suppose to keep an eye on his cousin. He didn’t have time for a relationship but after meeting Haven he was smitten. He thought he could keep things casual because she did not fit into his lifestyle and was someone his family would accept but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t stay away. Haven was different from all of his past hook ups. She’s not only beautiful but she is independent, hard working, sweet and did not know much about his family. She understood his busy schedule and didn’t make demands even though she deserved better than what he had given her. Despite everything going on Andino and Haven fell in love.
Can’t wait for the next book!
Bethany-Kris tells Andino Marcello and Haven Murphy’s story in a duet and this is book 1. I have read every book in BK’s backlist. I would have to say that she is the most consistent writer I have ever had the privilege of reading. Just when you think her stories can’t get any better than they are she totally outdoes herself. Duty is everything I never expected. Andino has made his appearance in many books in the commission world. I went into this book with certain thoughts on Andino and his character. I wasn’t surprised that Bk made me fall in love with him. One of the main things I love about Haven’s character is that she isn’t part of Andino’s world, meaning she is an outsider. The chemistry between the two is fire. This book is 5 plus stars amazing. I’m looking forward to book 2. Well done BK.
