They say heavy is the head that wears the crown … beneath his three-piece suits, and charming smile for him to finally bend the rules set out for him. That doesn’t mean he can keep her.
They say things that never challenge you won’t change you …
Haven Murphy is doing her own thing, and she does it well. The owner of a successful Brooklyn strip club, she makes it her only goal to never fail. She’s just trying to live her life when a morning jog puts her face to face with a man that will change the direction of her life with a single conversation. She knows there’s a dark side to him beyond his good looks, and three-piece suits, but it’s hard for her to care when she wants him. That doesn’t mean he can be hers.
He’s going to break her heart; she’s going to keep his.
Because duty waits on no one.
Part one of a two-book Duet.

I feel as if there’s nothing the Marcello men and their legacies can do to make me love them less. With each story that Bethany-Kris creates, I fall more in love with these men. I’m infatuated with their individual characteristics and how all of them are so honorable and loyal to one another. Nothing comes before family and it shows in every book I become absorbed with.
I was really looking forward to Andino’s story. I was already very much in love with him through the glimpses I’ve received along the way. This book…
I had a tear!! A gosh darned freaking tear!! Andino’s story wrung a tear from my soul. I wasn’t even sad. I was overwhelmed with how absolutely incredible he was. Much of his mannerisms and character were to be expected, such as his charm, intelligence, honor code, loyalty and morality. But this man was about so much more. He grew up in a life of privilege and yet he was so humble. He lived under a heavy cloud of expectations and yet strived for a little piece of normal. I felt the walls pressing in on him and I wanted to reach through and lighten his load.
I have no idea who this is but he was how I envisioned Andino. Drop-dead gorgeous, charismatic, and so sexy he had me wondering if wearing panties was a good idea. I loved me some him!
I realize that I should say something about Haven, but there’s rarely a time that I don’t like a heroine of this author’s creation. This was one of those rare times. She really rubbed me the wrong way. She had some really high expectations when she said she had none. She seemed to understand that Andino had responsibilies and that his time wasn’t for her alone, but she constantly gave him a guilt trip about it. I didn’t hate her. I actually admired her. I’m just hoping that she eases up a bit in the story to come.
Okay, back to my new book boyfriend. He was on the cusp of inheriting a responsibility and it was making him miserable. But Andino was raised and learned the life at the feet of the great men of his family. Shirking his duty wasn’t even a possibility. But could he pursue his happiness while appeasing his loved ones and accepting what is to come?
If you’re anything like me, Vow (book 2) can’t get into our hands soon enough. While I’m hoping these two finally get their lives together, I’m sure it won’t be easy. BRING IT!!
Yet another phenomenal story from the Queen of Mafia. What an amazing story..It was sexy, emotional, intense, and I was hooked from the very first page. Andino and Haven were perfect for one another. I just devoured this story! Can’t wait for the second part..
Reading the first installment of Andino and Haven’s story was an absolute blast! The title, Duty, was very appropriate for Andino as he’s currently the next-in-line to inherit the Marcello empire.
Shakespeare said that heavy is the head that wears the crown. But when you know that the crown will be passed on to you, there will be expectations that will eventually be detrimental to your relationship. And that’s what happened with Andino and Haven. As a girl reading Haven’s POV, I was absolutely crushed and devastated with how their story unflolds towards the end. The burdens of being a boss-in-waiting ended up with Andino neglecting to prioritize his relationship with Haven.
I loved how Bethany-Kris has intricately woven the world of the Legacy series. We have seen glimpses of Andino and Haven in the other books and to finally read their story for the first time was an absolute treat! I can’t wait to finally read the conclusion of this much-loved duet!
This book was absolutely perfect.
I waited so long to read Andino’s story, and I swear it was so worth it.
This book literary had swept me off my feet.I loved evrey second of it. I knew that it will be sad and hard to read but I didn’t think that it would be like that. I was really sad and heartbroken. The story was so emotional.
I felt really bad for Andino and Haven. It felt like the entire world was against theme. But I was rooting for theme since the begging.
Haven is really great character. I love women that are not ashamed to say what they think and how they feel about certain things. Haven was so strong and I feel like she deserved more from Andino.
Andino is so manipulative, stubborn, sexy and completely irresistible. I was soo sad for him. He feels like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders which is true in a way. But when it comes to Haven I’m a bit mad with him. But I do know that he did the best he could.
Anyway this book was absolutely everything that I wanted to read about these two. They are explosive together and so entirely in love with each other.
And I really can’t wait to read more of theme.
Why does it hurt so much? Its like our foolish hearts try to rationalize, hypothesize, and make excuses. Our heart speaks louder than our minds.
You know what he is. You know what he does. Despite your feelings, there is always something in the way. His family. His work. His lifestyle. Yet you still find a way to make excuses. You fall deeper, harder, and more in his spell…for what though!?!?
For an end that severs your hearts connection to your mind…
For a hurt so deep your soul aches…
To say one time you loved a man who was no good for you…
Haven truly wishes she knew. You will wish you knew too. I’ve always wondered if the saying “its better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all is really true.”
When its all said and done, he proved he would do his Duty. I’m personally ready to strangle Andino even knowing why. I just can’t stand to see love lose. I’m so glad I have book 2 waiting for me. I would lose my mind waiting otherwise!
Title: Duty
Author: Bethany-Kris
Publication Date: October 8, 2018
The title of this book says it all and it sucks to be a Marcelo for the younger generation.
Andino and Haven seem perfect but la famiglia doesn’t see it that way. Andino was once happy as the capo for his family, now he is weighed down by the responsibilities of being the unnamed underboss and all the expectations that come with it.
Wonderful characters, steamy and heartbreaking decisions.
Great read. It is one of the best romance reads I have came across, lately. And it left me wanting more.
Duty by Bethany-Kris is book One in the Andino + Haven Series. This starts the story of Andino Marcello and Haven Murphy.
Andino becomes the next heir to the Marcello empire. Haven is the owner of Brooklyn strip club. Both are so different but but they have their attraction to draw them into each other.
This book doesn’t end their story so there is a next installment to it. The next book is called ‘Vow’.
I have to be honest and say I do hate to wait for the next book so I did wait a little bit to read this one, and I am happy I did since I could not put this story down.
Andino is a man with the world on his shoulders. He hates it but takes it as it is. When he meets Haven by chance while jogging life takes a turn for him.
Haven is an independent woman that doesn’t need a man. She is equal to Andino which I loved. These two are a wonderfully hot couple. I loved this story.
“Heavy is the head that wears the crown..”
You already know I am a huge supporter of Bethany-Kris. Every single mafia romance book she writes is absolutely magnificent in my eyes. Yeah, it may seem repetitive to you but I am going to keep saying it to the world. Bethany-Kris fills my heart with so much abundance and joy. There is magic in her writing. There is soul in the pages. There is fire burning in her characters. You just become addicted to her amazing story that weave so much heart. Duty by Bethany-Kris is fantastically written kindling to a perfect fire. A deep and wavering storm with earth shattering force. A magnetic read that will drown you deeply in the world of crime and love. Duty like all of Bethany-Kris books really leave me so excited and satisfied.
Duty is the first book in the Andino + Haven duet and man, I needed a drink after reading it. The palpable thriller emanating in Duty absolutely made my head spin and my heart pound so hard. I was delirious. I was breathless. I was intoxicated. I was electrified. Duty was perfect to me. The hot and fiery storyline. The stunning characters. Duty was a scorching mafia romance with an excellent layer of suspense, chaos and sexiness. Duty is a story of tradition. Duty is a story of family loyalties and responsibilities. Duty is a story of one man bound to his duty to his family and his love and obsession for a woman. It will excite you. It will make your heart skip a beat. I love the legacy books so much. Bethany-Kris is spinning beautiful tales with the Legacy novels. She does with so much passion that you feel it. Her writing absolutely shimmers and shines through out.
In Duty, you are introduced to Andino and Haven, two individuals who match in both love and passion. Andino and Haven were dripping in sexy chemistry and intensifying love. So incredible. So captivating. Andino and Haven just fit together like a puzzle. Andino is a Greek god. OMG, can I tell you how absolutely sexy Andino is? Omg, I felt my whole body was going to combust. Protective. Dark. Intense. Powerful. Andino is just the hottest alpha I ever read. Seriously, I was ruined because of Andino. Mind. Heart. Soul. Ovaries. Turned to dust. Haven is a spitfire. She had a strong and fiery personality. Her convictions stood still. Yes, some people won’t like her as a character. I loved her boldness and her willingness to stand her ground in life and love. She was able to match up to Andino’s cockiness and overbearing nature.
Seriously, I need Vow now. My heart won’t rest until I have Vow on my kindle. If you have not read any books by Bethany-Kris, you need to sort that asap
Andino is going to be the next boss, he never wanted it, everything was decided without him, he’s father said he had time to sort out his personal life, but duty didn’t wait, needing to think he takes his dog for a walk and meets a woman with a fiery and feisty look, taking a phone call he turns to find her gone.
Andino can’t believe he found the girl, and she was dancing in a strip club, and the owner, she was feisty and a smartass, but he liked when he told her his name that she had no idea who he was or what he was involved in.
Andino is reminded that he needs to have his personal affairs in order, or they will help him, a boss needs an appropriate wife, it’s his duty, but he still thinks of Haven. As soon as he’s uncle saw him with Haven he knew the family would question it, she’s not acceptable for a boss to be seen with and he’s reminded of his duty to the family and as a future boss, he can’t just have breakfast with someone like her.
Andino is getting tired of the rules and control with being the boss-in-waiting, he didn’t ask for it, his cousin tells him not to let them control him, give them a boss, could it be that simple though. He tries to stay away from Haven, but he can’t, he likes she doesn’t know anything about him or who he is.
Haven and Andino enjoy there time together, until Haven hears a conversation that lets her know that the rumours she didn’t want to believe about the Marcello family have truth to them, as much as Andino tries to get her to stay, she leaves needing time.
Two months later Andino still wanted Haven, she’s made assumptions and made her choice, but he couldn’t get her out of his mind, and she didn’t give him a choice, with only her making the decision to walk away.
Two months after leaving Andino, Haven can’t help but think about him, but even though it was a busy night, buzzing on her body and butterflies in her stomach let her know Andino was here somewhere.
What happens when Haven, realises that the rumours about the Marcello’s that she was ignoring are true.
Can Andino convince Haven that they can work, that she wasn’t just his secret he kept hidden or will he break, her heart for his duty. The ending can’t wait for the next book.
Andino “Andi” Marcello is the next in line for the head of the mafia. He has to put aside his own wants and needs for the family. Haven is doing her own thing when she meets Andino while out for a jog that will change her life. I am waiting for the next book to see if the couple can find a way to be together.
This is the first book in a duet, and is Andino and Haven’s story. Andino is a sexy and loyal Capo, who has his place firmly placed in the direction his life is taking him. Haven is a strong and independent woman, who is the perfect one to tilt Andino’s world. The chemistry between these two is explosive. This is a well written addictive read, which ends with the dreaded cliffy, but hopefully not to long to wait for the follow on novel. This story is emotional and heartbreaking, and I was completely intrigued and hooked throughout.
This was well written and had a very intriguing story line, I didn’t want to put it down once I started. I loved both Andino and Haven, they’re both strong characters with great chemistry. I loved how it ended! Be warned, it is a cliffhanger but I thought it was fantastic and I am dying for the second book.
Andino Marcello is a made man, a Capo, and soon to be, THE BOSS. Not that he necessarily wants to be the Boss, or is ready to be the Boss, but it’s his duty, so it’s what will happen, regardless of whatever feelings he has, or doesn’t have, about it. And then he meets a gorgeous, sassy spitfire with colored hair and ink all over her gorgeous runner’s body. And suddenly he’s thinking of taking a break from the family business. It doesn’t have to be anything, and his family, especially his Uncle, the current Boss, who would never approve of Haven as the wife of a Marcello. No, not Haven with her strip club and her last name of Murphy. Sigh…
But, can Andi resist the woman who’s burrowing into his life, into his heart? He knows he can’t truly have her, because his responsibilities to his family mean he can’t have this inappropriate woman, even though she’s the woman he loves.
“Heavy is the head that wears the crown,” “And it’s always the man who wears the crown that sacrifices the most, Andino, so the rest of the people around him never have to. What are you willing to sacrifice?”
Is Andi going to have to sacrifice his life with Haven, the love he feels for her? For his Duty? After all, “Duty waits on no one,” or so he’s been told.
Bethany-Kris apparently didn’t feel the need to answer this question in this installment of Andi and Haven’s journey, so now I’m hyperventilating at the fact that I have to wait for who knows how long before I get my Andi + Haven fix. Whenever she plans on releasing the next part of their journey, I will be there so quick I’m sure my head will be spinning because I fell hard for these two seemingly mismatched people. Andi with his gorgeous suits and his awesome dog, Snaps, and Haven with her star-tattoo covered body and feisty attitude. Please, whatever you do, Bethany-Kris, have some mercy on us poor readers, and release the next part soon!! I’m begging you!!
In this story we delve back into the world of the Marcellos. We get to revisit some of my favorite characters in Duty with Lucian, Gio, Kim, Dante, John, Catherine, and Cross all making appearances. However, it’s time for Dante, Lucian, and Gio to pass the torch to the next generation. As a result, Andino steps up as the “boss in training.” His new title, and the duty and responsibilities that go along with it, weigh heavily on him. Andi has always put the family and business first. But what happens when he meets the fiesty, sexy, headstrong Haven? Things definitely get complicated.
I must say, prior to reading this book, I was not a fan of Andino’s. In fact, after reading Cross and Catherine’s story I really didn’t like Andi at all. I was unsure if I would like Duty because of this. However, Bethany-Kris proved once again how brilliant she is at developing her characters. In this book she shows a whole new side to Andino and makes the reader easily fall in love with him. You feel like you are living his struggles right along with him. Andino has quickly become one of my favorite heroes and Haven is definitely one of my favorite heroines. I love these characters and love them even more as a couple. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for them. I know it won’t be easy, as proved by the ending in Duty, which will break your heart, but it will definitely but worth the ride!
I love reading stories about families. Where prior characters are present when new stories are being told. Bethany Kris and her mafia families are always perfectly wonderful. They are passionate, erotic, suspenseful and full of the loyalty, duty and expectations of organized crime families.
Andino Marcello, son of Gio Marcello, and nephew to Lucien,The Underboss and Dante,The Boss of the Marcello Family. Life of Cosa Nostra is one of Honor and Duty. “Heavy is the Head who wears the crown.” And the next head to wear the crown is Andino. He follows the rules, is a great made man and he always thinks of family first. But becoming The Boss is on a whole other level. Expectations are even higher and Andino must fulfill those that are required to be The Boss. Whether he likes them or not. He must also figure out how to rule and still be his own man. Not like Antony or Dante but as Andino.
Haven Murphy is a woman who is just trying to stay afloat. She runs a business that she also has made successful but doesn’t really have a life outside that business. She is strong, feisty, full of tattoos and doesn’t back down. She’s not Italian and does not know of the business. All things that make her not and whom Andino should want and need.
When these two meet and the passion ignites, duty and expectations threaten to extinguish that fire though. When family comes first along with duty and honor when does Andino get to come first? Andino has much to deal with and thus Haven isn’t always a priority. Being the Boss in wait is heavy and full of burden. But when Andino is with Haven, she settles him and let’s him breathe. It feels right and good but…….Haven doesn’t fit the mold set before him. Can Andino do what is expected, follow the duty before him or will he realize that Haven is what his expectation and duty call for?
This book is book one in a duet. It ends in a cliffhanger that makes you only hunger for book two.
Oh my goodness, I’ve been waiting for Andino and Haven’s story…and it was worth the wait!! This was SO good! But my heart is broken now and I don’t know what to do! Talk about a book hangover! I felt so torn, so frustrated for what they had to go thru. It was fun getting a look at John’s life from Andi’s viewpoint. They have such a great bromance, for lack of a better word! I can’t wait for the next book, the wait is going to kill me! This was one of my favorites yet, and I’ve loved all her books!
I’d love to know where Bethany-Kris gets all this original and engaging material from. We have this group of characters that grow so large and their love is so deep. I don’t know how she can continue to write the same genre for years and years and her work is never stale, it’s never lacking. I saw with because I have read every single book that has come before this one. She’s a machine. A talented and utterly creative machine. I hope she never loses her gift. There is no better mafia/crime boss author.
Andino and Haven are sexy and so perfect together. Andino’s life has always been so tailored, every bit of it preordained for him. Haven is just the opposite. She’s so fun loving and carefree. Obviously, Andino would be obsessively drawn to her. Can he have both what he wants and what has always been dictated for him? Mrs. Kris tells an intensely gritty story, that like always, pulled me in and didn’t let me up for air. Now I’m fiendishly waiting for the follow up book!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
5 ++++++ Stars
Finally the story of Andino and Haven …. was curious since the first appearance of Haven in the Book of Caterine, there in the book that curiosity only sharpened. Something told me their story would be great. And my instinct was right.
Duty is a forbidden love story among opposing people of the world. Haven is an ordinary girl who has no connection to the mafia world. She owns a strip club, full of tattoos and isn’t Catholic. And Andino is a manipulative bastard who is almost ready to become the mafia boss of his family. These two are a disaster ready to happen, however they are a perfect swing to one another and it is impossible not to fall in love with and twist for these two. This was a story that captivated my attention from the front page because it was interesting, fast, sweet and hot. It’s a story full of secrets, suspense, action and Haven and Andino are fantastic characters and I think they have become my favorite couple. And Haven is undoubtedly the heroine I love.
The first part of the story of these characters brought up several feelings in me. I hated a character who was my favorite of this family, in this book I wanted to get into the book and stabbing him for being so conservative and difficult.I fell in love with Andino even though at times I wanted to beat him for some actions. And Haven I have nothing to talk about besides the fact that I loved her from beginning to end.And what about the end of this book? I was expecting a cliffanger, , but it didn’t make it less painful and a I confessed that I kind of hated Bethany kris for that end . The next book can’t arrive fast enough while I’m waiting here for the continuation of this fantastic story.
