It’s a simple formula: Magical power equals political power…Sparks are flying between researcher Anne Crosby and no less than nine men–but it’s not what you think. Whenever these nine amnesiacs touch anyone, electrical mayhem results. More surprising: all of them have dust instead of blood in their veins, even though they’re quite alive. It’s Anne’s job to track down who and what these men … these men are, even though she takes a dim view of the supernatural.
Her research takes Anne to Russia and the discovery of the devastating magical source behind the former Soviet Union’s power–a source the resurrected KGB wants back. Anne must stop them, and they’ll do anything to stop her.

This is the first time I have had the pleasure of reading anything by Tonya Cannariato. I have to say, it won’t be my last either. Not only was this a great novel, but it is the first of a new series and ends on one heck of a cliffhanger! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one available! This book has a lot going on in it and really pulls you in from the get-go. I loved how connected I felt to the characters, and how real they were written. A bonus is that this was unexpected for me, I normally choose novels based on covers a lot of the time, because well, I do. This one, not so hot, but that synopsis though, it drew me in and I am glad that it did. I love paranormal stories and I am really happy that this was one I gave a chance.
Anne is our main gal here and she is off to Russia for a research project. She is tasked with investigating nine orphans that have displayed powers that are unexplainable. When her research gets underway she is faced with things that force her to question everything she once thought she knew. The world building here is wonderful and draws you into the story as if you were right there with Anne as she experiences these things that happen. I was never bored with this novel and am highly anticipating what will come next!
Dust to Blood (Red Slaves #1 by Tonya Cannariato
Three Stars
This story reads like a long research document so be prepared. It took me a while to really get into this story. I did enjoy some parts. Its very long winded and its more explaining than anything else. There wasn’t enough conversation between the characters so you don’t really get a sense of who everyone is. The author does have a great plot it was just too much information and not enough interaction with characters. I liked the dragon parts and the characters learning about the dragons history. With how they came to be prisoners and on the run. Will be reading the next book to see what happens next
Anne Crosby has her hands full investigating 9 young men who suffer from amnesia, have dust for blood, and seem to have electrical powers when they touch anyone. Anne doesn’t take too much stock in the paranormal reports. She is far too sensible for that. But these poor men are being tortured by KGB agents who want to harness these powers. Anne is challenged to look beyond the surface of everything and put her skepticism to the side in the face of irrefutable evidence of what can only be described as magic.
This story takes place in Moscow and Tonya has put so much fantastic detail into everything that I’m about to plan a trip to see everything myself. On to book 2!
Dust to Blood (Red Slaves Book#1)

4 out of 5 stars
Dust to Blood is an intriguing fantasy written by Tonya Cannariato. Tonya is a new author for me but her writing style I loved. Her attention to detail about Russia and the culture is amazing and makes the story more connectable. I loved the adventure, magical powers, and danger.
Anne Crosby is a researcher sent to Russia by her job to investigate dragons. Anne’s research partner Igor introduces her to the Lost boys. The lost boys are 9 boys who have amnesia for the last 5 years, and who have dust not blood in veins. Anne realize nothing is what it seems! The KGB is on her trail making sure the secrets stay secrets.
Danger and Magic! Dust to Blood is full of adventure, Tonya writing slowly pulls you into the story page by page until you are totally intrigued and can’t put the book down. I enjoyed the paced of the story the beginning starts off a little slow but it’s a lot to take in. The story is full of suspense and fantasy and will keep readers hooked. I highly recommend you read Dust to Blood by Tonya Cannariato.

5 Stars!!!!
I love and am absolutely obsessed with dragons and this book really hit the nail on the head for me. I really like this
authors take on dragons. I also liked the setting as not many books are set in Russia. I found this book to be quite refreshing and
unique and a good easy read. There was just enough drama and action in this book to keep me glued to the pages to see what would happen next.
The bond between Ivan and Anne is quite a unique one. The author has really brought her fictional world to life and also keeps you glued to
the pages. The way in which the author twists her tale ensnares the reader so that you feel as though you are the character and
that every that happens is happening to you at the same time. I really cannot wait to read more from this author and this series.
Dust to Blood (A Red Slaves Novel #1)

Rated 4 stars
This is the first story in the Red Slaves Series. Anne is researcher and has been sent to Russia to try and find the” lost boys”. While she has never been paranoid she is becoming so since being in the company of Igor. He is helping her look for the boys and keeping her out of trouble with the KGB. There is a lot of political references in here referring to Russia. I really enjoyed this story. At times I wasn’t sure where it was going or who would join the group next. Anne doesn’t believe in the paranormal. She runs these research trips for her boss, Sam, who does believe. She is just happy to be working…alone…with books. The supporting characters were nice. They added intrigue and honesty to the story. Olga was nice because she made me look at Anne as a girly girl instead of just as a researcher.
This is really a Paranormal fantasy story No romance. Just a smidge was mentioned a couple times. Which is fine because this series is about looking for dragons. Who doesn’t want rather have that? I felt it was a little slow setting up the scenes but it picked up during the last half.
Strong female protagonist? Check. Paranormal Twist? Check. Story set in an ancient world? Check.
Meet Dust to Blood by Tonya Cannariato is an intriguing story about a 35-year-old researcher from Chicago, who is sent to Moscow, Russia to investigate (9) orphans who have come to surface – but what’s the most intriguing is the fact that instead of having blood run through their veins, they have actual… dust.
Anyone that knows me, knows that I love a good paranormal read. And I’m glad that I came across Tonya and her writing style. She managed to capture my attention and maintain it throughout the entire storyline. I definitely enjoyed the characters, and the way in which they were developed. I have to say that I definitely consider this a 4 Star Book!
Dust to Blood is a paranormal fantasy by Tonya Cannariato and the first book in the Red Slaves Series (cliff-hanger warning!). Anne is a researcher sent by her think tank to investigate nine orphans with mysterious powers. As her research unfolds she is forced to question everything she thought she knew. This book was wildly imaginative, a unique story that will hook you from the start. I really enjoyed the mythology and the author does an amazing job describing the fantasy elements so you feel like you are living the story. This was my first book by Tonya Cannariato and it won’t be my last, I look forward to the rest of this series!

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was an interesting and intriguing read and absolutely not what I was expecting. This was my first read by this author and also something a little out of my comfort zone. I found the authors writing style to be really engaging and my interest was kept throughout. Her descriptions of Russia were great and I could imagine what I was reading. I really liked Anne, I thought that she was a strong character who and definitely didn’t take any nonsense. I actually liked the unique storyline that the author had created was really exciting to read. I loved the mystery and suspense that was mixed in with paranormal elements. It was nice to read something so unique and unpredictable. I will admit I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I have in other stories it definitely didn’t take away from my enjoyment of what I was reading. I will definitely be looking forward to reading the next books in the series. I am certainly looking forward to more twists and turns!!

Dust to Blood is the first book in the Red Slaves Series by Tonya Cannariato. I was quite surprised that this story had so much going on in it, and not what I was expecting-but in a good way. This is a paranormal/fantasy with some action, mystery, drama, suspense, dragons, witches, the KGB, and a touch of romance. The story has surprises, twists and had me avidly reading right from the beginning. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Cannariato, and I can confidently say that it certainly won’t be the last.
Anne Crosby finds herself in a very intriguing situation. There are nine mysterious amnesiacs all in the same mindboggling situation and it becomes her job to investigate and unravel the mystery surrounding them. As the story unfolds the developments make for really great reading. I really wasn’t expecting that, and I thought it was quite brilliant on the authors part. The story is creative, imaginative and unique. The characters are very interesting, well developed and individual. Ms. Cannariato has produced a wonderful, polished story that kept me captivated the whole way through. I am looking forward to the second book!
Thank you, Ms. Cannariato!
Dust to Blood (Red Slaves Book 1) by Tonya Cannariato is the first book in her Red Slaves series. This is a paranormal story that is engaging and easy flowing. This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it until the end. Her attention to details made me feel as if I was right there with the characters. Her characters are creative, connectable and relatable. I enjoyed how some were dragons and witches. They took me on some twists and turns that left me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what will happen next. This book is about Annie. Annie is a researcher who is sent to Russia to figure out who and what 9 men are. What she discovers is more then she was expecting. I enjoyed how this story was told in Annie’s point of view. I think it helped make her character more real. She made the story fast paced and kept the mystery in the story. The secondary characters were just as engaging and help make the story flow. I highly suggest this book. Will Annie figure out this mystery and who these men are?
A very good and well written novel. I enjoyed the action filled and the history around all the characters and the country that this story was based on.
Anne Crosby is sent to investigate nine men who have no memory, except for the last five years. She discovers they have dust, not blood, in their veins. When they touch someone, sparks fly. What happened to them? Is magic real? Anne is in for a surprise. Great read.
I liked the concept of this book.
Anne Crosby is sent to Moscow to investigate the rumors of dragons.
It’s a little fast paced, which is perfectly fine for me. However, I don’t know if it was the writing style of this author or just all the details but the book could only hold my interest for little spurts of time.
I’d have to put the book down then pick it back up to try again.
